Borough of Emerson 2018 Solid Waste & Recycling Newsletter and Dog & Cat License Application www.emersonnj.org 2018 RECYCLING REMINDERS Please don t put recycling in your garbage. It costs money, it s bad for the environment and it s against the law! It costs the Borough $69.50 per ton to dispose of household waste in a landfill but only $17.50 per ton if it is taken to a recycling facility. Every ton of material taken out of the landfill saves 75% of the cost of disposal. In 2016 Borough residents recycled 1052 tons of cardboard, paper, cans, plastic and glass bottles which saved the Borough nearly $55,000. This is a great result. But currently only 25% of all household waste generated is recycled. If every resident of Emerson recycled just 1 pound more of waste every week, the Borough would save another $14,000 per year.
