DRAFT PLAN AVAILABLE FOR COMMENT CITY OF GREATER DANDENONG PROJECT UPDATE The City of Greater Dandenong has prepared a Draft Management Plan for the municipality s Green Wedge. The plan provides a clear vision, objectives and actions for the future of the Green Wedge over the next 15-20 years. The plan is structured around five key themes: water, environment, land use, access and built form and heritage. Key objectives and actions are shown on the map overleaf. The key priorities identified to implement the plan are: improve the management of flooding and inundation protect existing ecological values provide greater certainty to Green Wedge owners regarding the preferred land uses optimise the safety, function and efficiency of the road network identify, protect and promote existing heritage values. PROJECT PROCESS The project is being undertaken in seven stages, as listed below. The project is currently in its final stages (stage 6). The draft plan has been prepared in response to technical analysis and community feedback. We want to know your views on the draft plan - including what you like, how it could be improved and what you think Council s top priorties should be. The main portion is located at the south of the municipality which includes parts of Keysborough, Bangholme and Lyndhurst. The northern-most portion (at the inset above top right), referred to as the Clarke Road precinct, is located in Springvale South. 1 2 kms

SUMMARY OF THE DRAFT PLAN Overall Vision Review in 20 years The Greater Dandenong Green Wedge will provide a green, spacious relief from surrounding urban development. It will support a range of activities agriculture, water treatment, recreation, education, and rural living that are carefully located and designed to respect the important environmental, cultural heritage, water management, landscape, and amenity values and functions of the region. Vision by Themes Review in 20 years A: DRAINAGE & WATER MANAGEMENT B: NATURAL ENVIRONMENT C: LAND USE D: TRANSPORT & ACCESS E: BUILT FORM & HERITAGE Water processes are managed to support environmental values, enhance amenity and recreational opportunities, improve water quality, and protect infrastructure assets and private property. Indigenous vegetation provides a rich and connected habitat for fauna that supports the biodiversity of the broader metropolitan area with priority given to the protection and management of ecological areas of highest value. Land use is carefully located and managed to complement the values and functions of the Greater Dandenong Green Wedge. The movement network supports vehicles and active transport in a safe, efficient and legible manner. Cultural heritage and landscape values are understood and respected.

Increase community awareness and involvement in ecological improvements Expand and diversify agricultural activity. Protect the ongoing viability of regionally significant assets. Strengthen the educational, recreational, sporting and cultural role of the Greater Dandenong Green Wedge. Manage risks associated with former land uses and soil conditions. Improve walking, cycling and horse riding opportunities. Advocate for better public transport coverage. Maintain open landscape-dominated vistas throughout the Greater Dandenong Green Wedge. Encourage an enhanced understanding of Aboriginal cultural heritage values and legislative requirements.
