John Lake recognized by FFSA The Florida Fire Sprinkler Association recognized John Lake of Wiginton Fire Systems in Sanford, FL for his contributions to the Red/Green Tag matrix as well as NFPA 25. John has been very active on a committee to help educate both contractors and AHJ s across the state and was instrumental in getting the Annex E added to the 2011 edition of NFPA 25. Having John Lake in Florida is just one more reason why Florida shines across the United States as a leader in the fire sprinkler industry. Russ Fleming at World Golf Village NFSA s newly elected President, Russ Fleming opened up the Spring 2012 conference with an exciting outlook into NFSA. He discussed his vision for our industry and how to create a positive momentum during the current economic climate. President Fleming talked about a fresh start at NFSA and how this will impact our members. It was a very positive and upbeat opening to what turned out to be a great week at World Golf Village in St. Augustine, FL. The conference offered beneficial content and was tremendously successful in the continued education of pertinent information to our Florida contractors. Special Thanks to our Sponsors at WGV Spring 2012 Conference Tyco Fire and Building Products Globe Fire Sprinklers Victaulic David Leon of Tampa FL Wins First Place in the Associated Builders and Contractor s (ABC) National Craft Championship David Leon of Wayne Automatic Fire Sprinklers won first place in the ABC National Craft Championship competition in the Fire Sprinkler category. David represented the ABC Florida Gulf Coast Chapter at the competition held in San Antonio on April 24 th 27 th 2012. ABC is honored to recognize the winners of the National Craft Championships for their high-quality workmanship, technical knowledge and safe work practices, said 2012 ABC National Chairman Eric Regelin, president of Granix, LLC, Ellicott City, Md. These craft trainees are the best of the best and show us that there is a bright future ahead for ABC and the U.S. construction industry. A field of 127 craft trainees competed for top honors in 12 competitions representing 10 crafts. Competitors first took an intense, two-hour written exam and then competed in a daylong hands-on practical performance tests in: residential/commercial carpentry; residential/commercial electrical; commercial/industrial electrical; fire sprinkler; HVAC; insulation; millwright/industrial maintenance mechanic; pipefitting; plumbing; sheet metal; pipe welding; and structural welding. - 2 -

This seminar will serve as a walk through for acceptance test requirements of NFPA 14. June 19, 2012-Periodic Inspection, Testing and Maintenance of Standpipe Systems Basic Bernie Arends Standpipes are often neglected in the periodic inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire sprinkler systems. However, this key component is crucial to the firefighting tactics in multi-story structures and can dramatically impede efforts if the standpipe system is not functioning properly. This seminar will review the requirements of NFPA 25, Chapter 6, that deal with the upkeep for standpipe systems to operate effectively. To register for these classes please go to www.nfsa.org.
