In today s commercial environments, it is increasingly important that manufacturers are able to supply a wide range of shower fittings to suit the many different applications and designs that are found in these areas. A major consideration in the choice of the type of showerhead will be maintenance, or to be more specific the avoidance of a high maintenance requirement. As the showerhead is downstream of the mixer, all the water that is passed through it will be at ideal temperatures for legionella growth; therefore the design should be of a type which prevents scale formation or has some form of self-cleaning mechanism since accumulated debris allows bacteria to gather and breed. The Auteau Vortex range of showerheads fulfils all of these criteria due to its patented conical design and large flow paths. For applications where pressures or flow rates are insufficient to use the vortex system or scale and bacteria growth are controlled by some other means and a more traditional spray pattern is desired the Auteau range of shower fittings also features standard removable grid type spray heads. Vortex Spray System The anti-scale and anti-legionella properties of the vortex system are due to its design: it does not allow scale build-up and the head will drain fully once the water stops flowing. These two qualities are key to preventing scale and bacterial build-up. The showerhead nozzle is conical in its design and, as the illustration shows, the ports for the incoming water are machined in such a way that the water is channelled horizontally around a central cone. This creates the spinning action or vortex within the nozzle. As the vortex reaches the outer rim of the nozzle, centrifugal force sends it spraying out in a typical shower spray pattern as invigorating mini droplets rather than a needle-like stream of water. Scale does not affect the vortex system because the holes that water is channelled through are much larger than in a traditional spray head plus no water is left in the head after running. Instead of relying on the water passing through tiny holes that can easily and quickly block up, this system uses a swirling action that is not susceptible to such a problem. We can confidently claim this shower system to be anti-scale thereby helping to prevent legionella because one of the bacteria s favourite breeding grounds is among the rich nutrients of a scaled up showerhead. 2
Product Range Auteau Tonic Jet Range Description The Auteau Tonic-Jet range of showerheads includes exposed riser sets, concealed heads for solid wall, panel mounted or through-wall applications, as well as top entry and ceiling mounted showerheads. The Auteau Tonic-Jet concealed and through-wall showerheads consist of an anti-vandal solid brass showerhead in either vortex spray pattern or a standard grid type spray pattern. The heads are standard ½" MBSP connections and the through-wall version also comes with a 60mm backplate and backnut to tighten onto panels or walls. The heads are designed to be used in conjunction with the Auteau concealed shower controls (SELF 100 010, SELF 100 020 and SELF 100 025). The Auteau Tonic-Jet exposed riser set consists of an anti-vandal solid brass showerhead in either vortex spray pattern or a standard grid type spray pattern, a two piece chrome plated riser, riser connector, fixing clamp and all the necessary parts and fixings to connect to the Auteau exposed shower control (SELF 100 001 or SELF 100 050). The showerheads are also fitted with an integral 8lpm flow regulator so that water economy is assured. Auteau Traditional Spray Range Description There are 2 types of exposed riser sets in this range: The 'Contract' type has a low profile triangular showerhead, solid brass construction and wall hugging riser pipe, ready to connect to the Auteau exposed shower controls (SELF 100 001 and SELF 100 050). The Auteau traditional exposed riser set consists of a solid brass scale resistant showerhead, a chrome plated 15mm riser tube, backplate and arm, and fixings ready to connect to the Auteau exposed shower control (SELF 100 001 or SELF 100 050). The concealed version uses the same showerhead with a solid brass shower arm with ½" MBSP connections and can be used in conjunction with the Auteau concealed shower control (SELF 100 010, SELF 100 020 and SELF 100 025). The Auteau traditional showerhead range can be used at pressures as low as 0.3 of a bar. Both systems feature a user adjustable direction of spray. In addition to the vortex and traditional style showerheads, Reliance also offer a high security anti-vandal/anti-ligature showerhead. The showerhead is designed to present no ligature points nor any possible leverage points for a potential vandal to grip on to. The anti-rotation ring locates into a hole at the back of the showerhead. This not only assists installation, but means that the showerhead cannot be moved or rotated by anyone in the shower room. An anti-vandal nut and washer are also provided for locking the showerhead in position from the void behind. The anti-vandal nut is a brass nut with three screws in, so that after the nut is tightened the screws can also be tightened to prevent any accidental loosening of the nut over time. A flow regulator is provided and is clipped into the inlet of the showerhead, which is inside the void. The flow regulator is set to provide a flow of 8 litres per minute. The connection can be 15mm compression, a female BSP connector or a standard tap swivel connector. 3
