BRAND MODEL/SERIAL # CAUSE PROBLEM SOLUTION Electrolux Model EILFU21GS, EILFU17GS Upright Freezers Frost build up on top of door dyke. Under certain conditions, excessive moisture infiltration and insufficient gap between top of door panel and cabinet top breaker can cause frost to develop on top of the door panel. To correct this situation, order necessary parts from below and follow the instructions below. First, there are several possible causes for this frost build up. 1. Warm air migration into the unit through the door, or cabinet, caused by the door vents (especially in humid areas like the South Eastern United States) and air from compressor compartment coming up the drain hose or through heat exchanger port. 2. Air trapped either by the light shield or by the top dyke of the door, causing the moisture in the air to freeze in the trapped location. 3. Direction of the air from the air diffuser and circulation of air. Second, Solutions for the problems. NOTE: Door Panel Removal Steps are detailed with illustrations on page 3. Item 1. Warm Air Migration: A. In very humid areas, it may be necessary to seal the door vents on the bottom of the door using RTV above or remove the vents and cover the holes with metal tape. B. Make sure the Drain Tube in the compressor compartment has enough of a loop to keep the loop full of water so air cannot migrate up the drain. C. Make sure the heat exchanger has the permagum sealing completely around it. D. Remove door panel, remove any ice or moisture and discard the EPS insulation. E. Install fiberglass insulation 297268700 around the door panel perimeter pockets. Cut insulation length to fit panel size. F. Reinstall gasket and door panel. Door must be placed on a flat surface. For best results, start door panel screw installation at the center and move toward the top and bottom of the door. G. Seal gasket to metal door flange using RTV sealant around the door seal perimeter. H. Ensure that the lower bearing is fully inserted in the door, if not, correct the problem. Item 2. Trapped Air. A. If the unit has the light shield across the top front of the cabinet, you need to drop it a full ¼ so air can flow through to move any stale air out of the area, and deposit the frost on the evaporator. Use clear Rubber tubing to make spacers or order, (2 Ea.) PN # 218875801 nylon washers. B. If the baffle on the rear wall has three elongated holes in the front, replace diffuser with (part # 216661601), or remove current diffuser and cover slots with white foam tape from the inside. If you do not have the baffle with the three elongated holes, you will need to take the diffuser off and turn it 180. C. On models with hollow hinge pins or have wire going through the hinges, it will be necessary to order the Inner Door Panel (See Chart on Page 3) and replace it following the instructions in item # 1 above, or elongate the bottom door hinge enough to drop the door to obtain a 3/8 gap between the top door dyke and the top breaker strip. D. On upright freezers 08 re-design, electronics in door, with high voltage (120Volts) going to the door (not through the hinge), it will be necessary to change the inner door panel and follow the instructions in item #1. Do not remove door from unit to replace the door panel, this must be done with door on the unit. SOLUTION WARNING If the wires to the door are moved from the original position, they must go back to the exact same position. 2008, Electronic Control in Door Hollow Pin, w/high Voltage: Replace Inner Door Panel Per Instructions on Page 1 Item 1. NOTE: THESE PARTS ARE NOT A KIT-- ORDER INDIVIDUAL PARTS! 1. 297268700 Insulation 1 EA 2. 5300807509 Sealant 1 EA 3a. For the Model EILFU21GS Order P/N 7216528201 Panel-inner door, Freezer. 3b. For the Model EILFU17GS Order P/N 7216527903 Panel-inner door, Freezer. Conclusion: On any of the models that the hinge has been drilled or replaced to lower the dyke and it is still frosting up, you will need to replace the Inner Door Panel and follow the instructions in item # 1, Page 1. All replacement inner door panels currently made, have the dyke lowered and if these panel need to be replaced there is no need to replace or elongate the bottom door hinge. All Panels can be looked up in IPL as the part numbers did not change. The inner door panel on any freezer can be changed instead of replacing the door hinge if there is a problem with alignment. Current production products should have the new door panels already on them and have the new diffuser baffles. We have not moved the location of the door vents yet, but they are supposed to be moved in the near future. Replacing the Inner Door Panels The following pages go through each step of inner door panel removal with photos for reference. However, the inner panels can differ depending on the model. The items and solutions listed on pages 1 and 2 are model specific, so that any special instructions take precedence over steps on pages 3 through 5. Electrolux Major Appliances Service Flash Rev.
