Dear Reader, Thank you for going through this booklet showing our furniture objects, intended to be authentic and timeless companions. Below some words how it all evolved. I founded Quodes in 2006. With the help of many design passionate people the collection came to life. From manufacturers to PR professionals and from transporters to photographers. This booklet is just a small reflection of their effort! The first person I met in the design industry is Marcel Wanders. This was 10 years ago and we kept in touch ever since. We even worked together previously to Quodes. Therefore it was important to me inviting him as the first person to design for Quodes. His stool Ken has been selected as Future Classic by Elle Decoration. In 2006 I visited Alfredo Häberli in Zürich, one of my favorite designers. He presented many ideas and I felt like a boy in a toy shop. Today Quodes has 3 of his cabinet designs in the collection, from which 2 have been exhibited in Museums and 1 is chosen as Best Shelving of the Year by Wallpaper magazine. In the same year we started a joyful cooperation with Ed Barber and Jay Osgerby in London. Ed and Jay have a great eye for detail and perfection. They took the seemingly normal and transformed it into a subtle and timeless design with the addition of wonderful color schemes. In the meantime, their design Satellite developed from an object to a cabinet system. In 2008 I discovered the work of Oki Sato from Tokyo, whose design studio is called Nendo. We started our cooperation, a fast long distance ping pong play of many e- mails, sharing ideas and solutions. This lead to the serene Collar cabinets with fronts inspired by the collar of a shirt and his Hexagon range inspired by Greek geometry. Collar Bookcase L50 H200 D35 and detail Design Nendo When working with Marcel Wanders I had the honor to hire Roel-Jan Elsinga, who made a big chunk of the Quodes graphical design some years later. Recently he designed with Mara Skujeniece (born in Latvia) the ceramic bowls Hyperbowl : each piece is comprised of two joined bowls, so it can also be used upside down. Enjoy the booklet and we appreciate any of your feedback, Bert Por bertpor@quodes.com 5
