TopVent DHV Use 1 Use 2 Construction and operation 1.1 Intended use TopVent DHV units are recirculation units intended for heating high spaces. They have the following functions: Heating (with connection to a hot water supply) Recirculation operation Air distribution with adjustable Air-Injector Air filtration (optional) Also included under intended use are compliance with the installation, commissioning, operating and maintenance provisions (operating instructions). Any use beyond this is considered improper use. The manufacturer can accept no liability for damage resulting from improper use. 1.2 User group The units are only allowed to be installed, operated and maintained by authorised and instructed personnel who are well acquainted with the units and are informed about possible dangers. The operating instructions are for operating engineers and technicians as well as specialists in building, heating and ventilation technology. The TopVent DHV is used to heat in recirculation operation; it was developed specially for use in high halls. The unit is installed under the ceiling. It takes in room air, heats it in the heating coil and blows it back into the room through the Air-Injector. With its high performance and efficient air distribution, the TopVent DHV covers a large area. Therefore, compared to other systems, fewer units are needed to achieve the required conditions. 2 unit sizes, variable fans, different coil types and a whole string of accessories provide a tailored solution for any hall. 2.1 Unit construction The TopVent DHV consists of the following components: Heating section (with fan and heating coil) Automatically adjustable vortex air distributor Air-Injector Both components are bolted together, but can be dismantled separately again. 2.2 Air distribution with the Air-Injector The patented air distributor called the Air-Injector is the core element. The air discharge angle is set by means of the infinitely variable guide vanes. It depends on the air flow rate, the mounting height and the temperature difference between the supply air and room air. The air is therefore blown into the room vertically downward, conically or horizontally. This ensures that: with each TopVent unit, a large area of the hall can be reached, the occupied area is draught-free, the temperature stratification in the room is reduced, thus saving energy. 4

TopVent DHV Construction and operation 2.3 Operating modes The TopVent DHV operates in the following modes: Recirculation Recirculation speed 1 Standby The TopTronic C control system regulates these operating modes automatically for each control zone in accordance with the specifications in the calendar. The following points also apply: The operating mode of a control zone can be switched over manually. Each TopVent DHV unit can operate individually in a local operating mode: Off, Recirculation, Recirculation speed 1. You will find a detailed description of the TopTronic C control system in section M 'Control systems' of this handbook. Code Operating mode Description REC Recirculation On/Off recirculation operation with TempTronic algorithm: during heat demand, the unit draws in room air, heats it and blows it back into the room. The following functions remain active: CPR Cooling protection: If the room temperature drops below the set value for cooling protection, the unit heats up the room in recirculation operation. Emergency operation Emergency operation is activated by connecting the unit to a power supply (only if there is no bus connection to the zone controller). For example, it is suitable for heating the hall before taking the control system into operation or if the controller fails during the heating period. L_OFF Off (local operating mode) The unit is switched off. TopVent DKV Use 1 Use 2 Construction and operation 1.1 Intended use TopVent DKV units are recirculation units intended for heating and cooling high spaces. They have the following functions: Heating (with connection to a hot water supply) Cooling (with connection to a water chiller) Recirculation operation Air distribution with adjustable Air-Injector Air filtration (optional) Also included under intended use are compliance with the installation, commissioning, operating and maintenance provisions (operating instructions). The TopVent DKV is used to heat and cool in recirculation operation; it was developed specially for use in high halls. The unit is installed under the ceiling. It takes in room air, heats or cools it and blows it back into the room through the Air-Injector. With its high performance and efficient air distribution, the TopVent DKV covers a large area. Therefore, compared to other systems, fewer units are needed to achieve the required conditions. 2 unit sizes, variable fans, different coil types and a whole string of accessories provide a tailored solution for any hall. 2.1 Unit construction The TopVent DKV consists of the following components: Heating /cooling section (with fan, heating/cooling coil and integrated condensate separator for the condensate generated) Automatically adjustable vortex air distributor Air-Injector The unit is insulated to avoid condensation on the external surfaces. Both components are bolted together, but can be dismantled separately again. 24

TopVent DKV Construction and operation 2.3 Operating modes The TopVent DKV operates in the following modes: Recirculation Recirculation speed 1 Standby The TopTronic C control system regulates these operating modes automatically for each control zone in accordance with the specifications in the calendar. The following points also apply: The operating mode of a control zone can be switched over manually. Each TopVent DKV unit can operate individually in a local operating mode: Off, Recirculation, Recirculation speed 1. You will find a detailed description of the TopTronic C control system in section M 'Control systems' of this handbook. Code Operating mode Description REC Recirculation On/Off operation: during heat or cool demand, the unit draws in room air, heats or cools it and blows it back into the room. The room temperature set value day is active. Fan... speed 1 / 2 1) Heating/cooling... on 1) during heat or cool demand REC1 Recirculation speed 1 The same as REC, but the unit operates only at speed 1 (low air flow rate) ST Standby The unit is normally switched off. The following functions remain active: CPR Cooling protection: If the room temperature drops below the set value for cooling protection, the unit heats up the room in recirculation operation. OPR Overheating protection: If the room temperature rises above the set value for overheating protection, the unit cools down the room in recirculation operation. The TopVent DHKV is used to heat and cool in recirculation operation; it was developed specially for use in high halls. The unit is installed under the ceiling. It takes in room air, heats or cools it and blows it back into the room through the Air-Injector. With its high performance and efficient air distribution, the TopVent DHKV covers a large area. Therefore, compared to other systems, fewer units are needed to achieve the required conditions. 2 unit sizes, variable fans, different coil types and a whole string of accessories provide a tailored solution for any hall. 2.1 Unit construction The TopVent DHKV consists of the following components: Heating section (with heating coil) Cooling section (with fan, cooling coil and integrated condensate separator for the condensate generated) Automatically adjustable vortex air distributor Air-Injector The unit is insulated to avoid condensation on the external surfaces. Both components are bolted together, but can be dismantled separately again. 34

TopVent MH Use 1 Use 2 Construction and operation 1.1 Intended use TopVent MH units are supply air units intended for ventilating and heating high spaces with a variable fresh air supply. They have the following functions: Heating (with connection to a hot water supply) Fresh air supply Mixed air operation Recirculation operation Air distribution with Air-Injector Air filtration Also included under intended use are compliance with the installation, commissioning, operating and maintenance provisions (operating instructions). The TopVent MH is used for ventilating and heating in fresh air, mixed air or recirculation operation; it was developed specially for use in high halls. The unit is installed under the ceiling and connected to a fresh air duct. Depending on the damper position, it takes in fresh air and/or room air, filters it, heats it by means of the heating coil and injects it back into the room via the Air-Injector. With its high performance and efficient air distribution, the TopVent MH covers a large area. Therefore, compared to other systems, fewer units are needed to achieve the required conditions. 2 unit sizes, variable fans, different coil types and a whole string of accessories provide a tailored solution for any hall. 2.1 Unit construction The TopVent MH consists of the following components: Mixed air box (with fresh air and recirculation air dampers linked to move in opposite directions) Filter box (with two class G4 bag filters) Heating section (with fan and heating coil) Automatically adjustable vortex air distributor Air-Injector The components are bolted together, but can be dismantled separately again. 54

TopVent commercial CAU Use 1 Use 2 Construction and operation 1.1 Intended use TopVent commercial CAU units are supply air units intended for ventilating, heating and cooling large spaces in fresh air, mixed air or recirculation operation. They have the following functions: Heating (with connection to a hot water supply) Cooling (with connection to a water chiller) Fresh air supply Mixed air operation Recirculation operation Air distribution with Air-Injector Air filtration Also included under intended use are compliance with the installation, commissioning, operating and maintenance provisions (operating instructions). The TopVent commercial CAU unit is used for ventilating, heating and cooling in fresh air, mixed air or recirculation operation; it was developed specially for use in hypermarkets and supermarkets. The unit is installed in the roof with the corresponding roof frame. Depending on the damper position, it takes in fresh air and/or room air, filters it, heats or cools it and injects it back into the room via the Air-Injector. With its high performance and efficient air distribution the TopVent commercial CAU covers a large area. Therefore, compared to other systems, fewer units are needed to achieve the required conditions. As they are installed in the roof, the units do not protrude so far into the room and maintenance work can be performed from the roof without disturbing operations. 2.1 Unit construction TopVent commercial CAU consists of the following components: Kit for roof installation consisting of: Fresh air roof hood (with 2 weather grilles, access door, 2 class G4 filters and a differential pressure control device for filter monitoring) Roof frame Mixed air box (with fresh air and recirculation dampers and actuator linked to move in opposite directions) Heating /cooling section (with fan, heating/cooling coil and integrated condensate separator for the condensate generated) Automatically adjustable vortex air distributor Air-Injector The unit is insulated to avoid condensation on the external surfaces. The components are bolted together, but can be dismantled separately again. 76

TopVent commercial CAU Construction and operation 2.3 Operating modes The TopVent commercial CAU operates in the following modes: Recirculation Recirculation speed 1 Supply air speed 2 Supply air speed 1 Standby The TopTronic C control system regulates these operating modes automatically for each control zone in accordance with the specifications in the calendar. The following points also apply: The operating mode of a control zone can be switched over manually. Each TopVent commercial CAU unit can operate individually in a local operating mode: Off, Recirculation, Recirculation speed 2, Recirculation speed 1, Supply air speed 2, Supply air speed 1. You will find a detailed description of the TopTronic C control system in section M 'Control systems' of this handbook. Also included under intended use are compliance with the installation, commissioning, operating and maintenance provisions (operating instructions). Any use beyond this is considered improper use. The manufacturer can accept no liability for damage resulting from improper use. 1.2 User group The TopVent curtain is a recirculating air heating unit with an outlet nozzle for use as an air curtain for doors of up to 6 m in height. Several TopVent curtain units are mounted over the hall door. They take in the room air, heat it in the heating coil and blow it downwards through the outlet nozzle. The resulting air curtain minimises any external influences on the room climate. It prevents the incidence of cold air and increases the usable area in the hall. The unit is available in 3 sizes, each with a 2-speed fan as standard so that altogether 6 different heat outputs can be selected. The TopVent curtain consists of the heating section (with fan and heating coil) and the outlet nozzle. Options Air outlet box 3 Air outlet box To adapt TopVent units to use in low-ceiling spaces, an outlet box instead of the Air-Injector can be mounted. This reduces the minimum mounting height by 1 m compared to the standard design. The air outlet box has horizontal exhaust air grilles on all sides. The vanes can be manually adjusted without tools to adapt the air discharge angle to the local conditions. Notice The air outlet box replaces the Air-Injector. The total height of the unit is somewhat smaller; the weight is approximately the same. Options Filter box 5 Filter box 6 Flat filter box A filter box with 2 class G4 bag filters can be installed for the purpose of filtering the recirculation air. The modular construction made of aluzinc sheet metal with 2 sliding doors makes it easy to replace the filters. Notice In the planning phase make sure there is enough space in front of the sliding doors so that the filters can be replaced with ease. A flat filter box can be installed for the purpose of filtering the recirculation air. 4 class G4 pleated cell-type filters can be installed in it. There are 2 possibilities: Standard paint finish The units are painted in the standard Hoval red (RAL 3000) at no extra cost (exception: roof hood). Paint finish as desired In order for them to harmonise with the room colour, the units can be delivered with a paint finish in any colour required (at an additional cost, when ordering, quote RAL number). 109

Options Recirculation silencer 8 Recirculation silencer 9 Acoustic cowl The use of a recirculation silencer for noise reduction is recommended mainly if the TopVent units are installed under flat, hard ceilings (e.g. made of concrete or sheet steel). The recirculation silencer is mounted on the appliance and thus reduces the sound reflection from the ceiling. Insertion attenuation is 3 db (A) compared with the total sound power level of each TopVent unit. Mount the recirculation units as usual via the 4 fastening points in the heating or heating /cooling section (for example, using the optional suspension set). The acoustic cowl reduces the noise level in the room; it is installed in the Air-Injector. This does not change the outside dimensions of the Air-Injector. Insertion attenuation is 4 db compared with the total sound power level of each TopVent unit. Caution Risk of injury from falling parts. The silencer cannot bear the weight of the appliance! Do not locate any suspension points on the silencer! A H Type U-6 U-9 A mm 900 1100 H mm 380 485 Weight kg 15 20 Table K6: Dimensions and weights of the recirculation silencer 110

Transport and installation Hydraulic installation 2 Hydraulic installation 2.1 Heating/cooling coil The TopTronic C control system is designed for a distributor circuit with separate hydraulic connection of the units; i.e. a mixing valve is installed in front of each unit. The diverting system is used as standard. Requirements on the boiler system and the distributor circuit Hydraulically coordinate the pipework for the individual units within a control zone to ensure even distribution. The heating medium must be available at the mixing valve without delay in the required amount and temperature. The condensate separator in cooling units only functions while the fan is running. No coolant must be allowed to circulate in the coil when the unit is switched off. The heating/cooling changeover valves must be designed with a digital position response. Depending on local conditions, check whether compensators for linear expansion are required for the supply and return lines and/or articulated connections are required for the units. Do not fasten any loads to the coil, e.g. by means of the flow or return lines. Insulate the hydraulic lines. The TopTronic C control system switches on the heating/ cooling pumps and 'Enable heating/cooling' every day. This prevents the pumps from blocking in case of a long shutdown. 2.2 Condensate connection Condensate arising in cooling units must be removed via a condensate-proof line. Install and insulate the supplied trap on the condensate connection of the unit. Dimension the slope and cross-section of the condensate line so that no condensate backflow takes place. Route the condensate line from the pump directly upwards. Ensure that the condensate produced is drained in compliance with local regulations. Notice Use the 'Condensate pump' option for quick and easy hydraulic installation. Pipework requirements Use 3-way mixing valves with the following flow characteristics: Equal percentage control path Linear bypass The valve authority must be 0.5. The valve actuator must have a short run time (< 10 s). The valve actuator must be continuous, i.e. the stroke changes in proportion to the control voltage (DC 2 10 V). The valve actuator must be designed with a position response (0...10 V DC or 2 10 V DC). The maximum power consumption is 20 VA. Install the valve close to the unit (max. distance 2 m). Notice Use the 'Hydraulic assembly' or 'Mixing valve' options for quick and easy hydraulic installation. 118

Control system TopTronic C control system Operating selector switch An operating selector switch makes it possible to specify an operating mode manually for a control zone. Automatic mode according to the calendar is overridden. The units work in the selected operating mode until the switch is moved back to 'Auto'. The switches are installed in the door of the zone control panel. There is only 1 operating selector switch for each control zone. The operating modes available depend on the unit types present in the zone in question. Notice Operating selector switches installed in the panel door cannot be combined with operating selector switches connected to a terminal (see Page 128). Operating selector button The operating selector button makes it possible to specify a particular operating mode temporarily for a control zone. After an adjustable time period, the units switch back to the operating mode that was being carried out previously. Notice The mode of function of the operating selector button can be set. The selected operating mode can also remain active until it is switched off again by pressing the button once more. The buttons are configured as illuminated pushbuttons. They are installed in the door of the zone control panel. There are a maximum of 3 operating selector buttons for each control zone: Standby (ST) Ventilation (VE) Recirculation (REC) There is also the option of connecting external operating selector buttons to a terminal (see Page 129). Control system TopTronic C control system Cooling lock switch The cooling lock switch also makes it possible to block the cooling function temporarily (e.g. in the transition period). It can be installed in the door of the zone control panel or connected to a terminal. Options for the zone control panel Alarm lamp A lamp for displaying alarms is installed in the door of the zone control panel. The lamp flashes when new alarms have occurred, and it lights up if already acknowledged alarms are still present. Notice There is only 1 collective alarm lamp for each control zone. It shows the alarms of the whole system. Socket A 1-phase socket with a 2-pin circuit breaker is installed in the zone control panel. This socket serves for connecting maintenance tools. Its circuit is not cut out by the safety relay. Additional room air temperature sensor Instead of only 1 room air sensor, additional sensors are provided to determine the average value; the corresponding terminals are integrated. A maximum of 3 additional sensors are possible per control zone. Combination sensor room air quality, temperature and humidity A combination sensor is supplied instead of the room temperature sensor. It measures the relative humidity and quality (VOC content) of the room air in addition to its temperature. The sensor is installed on the wall in the occupied area, at a height of about 1.5 m. Notice Measurement of the room air humidity is a prerequisite for icing protection in applications with high extract air humidity. The use of the combination sensor enables the system to be operated without ice formation in the plate heat exchanger. External sensor values It is possible to connect external sensors to the zone controller via additional inputs (input signal: 0 10 V DC or 4 20 ma): Room temperature Room air quality Room air humidity External set values It is possible to connect set value specifications from an external system to the zone controller via additional inputs (input signal: 0 10 V DC or 4 20 ma): Room temperature Room air quality Supply and exhaust air volume flow Fresh air ratio Load shedding input The zone controller includes a digital input for load shedding by an external system. Operating selector switch on terminal (analogue) An operating mode can be specified for a control zone from an external system using an analogue operating mode signal connected to a terminal. Control system TopTronic C control system 1.4 Control components in the units A control box is fitted at the side of the housing on each TopVent unit. The following components are installed: Unit controller In supply air units, the unit controller controls the individual unit, including the air distribution, according to the specifications of the control zone and regulates the supply air temperature using cascade control. In recirculation units, the unit controller receives all signals from the zone controller. Connection terminals for the power supply, the zone bus, actuators, sensors and peripherals Main switch (external, switches everything off except for the unit controller, the heating/cooling valve and sensors) Transformer for the unit controller and the field units Wire jumper for forced off (only for supply air units) Options Notice If the power supply for the unit controller is interrupted, frost protection and monitoring are not guaranteed. Door contact A volt-free contact can be installed on the control box for unit operation subject to a door contact switch. The TopVent unit heats in recirculation operation (Fan speed 2, Heating on) when the following conditions apply: The signal for the opened door is active. The fresh air temperature is max. 10 C (this threshold is adjustable). Door contact: Cable: 24 V AC, max. 1 A NYM 2 x 1.0 mm² max. 100 m long Pump control for mixing or injection system Instead of the diverting system, an injection or mixing circuit can also be installed in the load circuit. Please note the following: Not only the mixing valves but also the pumps in the load circuit are controlled directly by the control block. Terminals for wiring the mixing valves and the pumps in the load circuit are located in the connection box. Make sure that valves and pumps which meet the following requirements are provided on site. Requirements for mixing valves: Use 3-way mixing valves with the following flow characteristics: Equal percentage control path Linear bypass The valve authority must be 0.5. The maximum run time of the valve actuator is 45 s. Requirements for pumps Voltage 230 V AC Current up to 4.0 A 1.5 Alarms and monitoring The TopTronic C control system monitors itself. Central alarm management records each alarm situation in the alarm list with a timestamp, priority and status. The alarms are displayed on the operator terminals and via the collective trouble indicator. Forwarding via e-mail is also possible. If there is a failure of communication, bus stations, sensor systems or supply media, each part of the system transitions to a protection mode which safeguards operation. Return temperature sensor The return temperature sensor monitors the return temperature of the heating medium. If necessary, it triggers frost pre-control at the heating valve to prevent the system possibly being shut down due to frost. 130

Control system Room temperature control with the EasyTronic ET 4 Room temperature control with the EasyTronic ET The EasyTronic ET is a room temperature controller without a timer for TopVent HV and curtain units. The room setpoint temperature is set manually and the required fan speed is selected using a switch. The EasyTronic ET consists of the following components: Room thermostat: The required temperature is set on the room thermostat using the control knob. If the room temperature drops below the setpoint value, the TopVent units switch on. Upon reaching the setpoint value, the units switch off again. Switching device: The required fan speed can be set using the switching device (1 = low speed / 2 = high speed / 0 = off). A maximum of 10 TopVent units can be controlled with 1 EasyTronic ET. The EasyTronic does not have a signal for switching a distributor pump or heat generator. System design Design example 1 Design example Notice Use the 'HK-Select' program to design Hoval Indoor Climate Systems. You can download it free of charge on the Internet. 1.1 Heating mode Design data Geometry of the room (plan) Mounting height (= distance between floor and lower edge of the unit) Heating load Unit type in accordance with the project-specific requirements (fresh air ratio, installation location, air distribution) Design conditions heating: Temperature of the heating medium Room temperature Extract air temperature: With TopVent units, the temperature stratification in the hall is reduced to just 0.15 K/m. Calculate the extract air temperature accordingly subject to the mounting height. For units with fresh air ratio: Fresh air temperature Fresh air ratio: The fresh air ratio can be adjusted from 0% to 100%. Where Regulation 1253/2014 applies, it must be restricted to 10% in the design conditions for energy-efficiency reasons. Mounting height Check the minimum mounting height (see Table L1). Check the maximum mounting height (calculate with 'Hoval HK-Select'). Strike units which are not adequate. Minimum number a) Minimum number based on the area Calculate the minimum number using the floor space of the room and the area reached for each unit. b) Minimum number based on length x width Depending on the shape of the hall and in relation to its length and width, a certain number of units will be required. Calculate the minimum number using the maximum distances between the units themselves and also between the units and the wall (see Table L1). c) Minimum number based on the heating load Calculate the output for coverage of transmission sensible gains under the given design conditions. Use this to calculate the minimum number for the given heating load.
