Pre-Installation Upon receipt of the Freeze Protection Kit Model FP-1872, carefully check the model number against the bill of lading. The Freeze Protection Kit is designed to protect brazed plate heat exchangers from freezing when used in EarthLinked Systems that provide chilled water. The temperature sensor is mounted on the flat plate surface of the heat exchanger near the cold water solution outlet. It turns the Compressor Unit off when the water solution temperature drops to 38 F. The FP-1872 Freeze Protection Kit is comprised of the following parts. Note which parts are to be used on the SCW Compressor heat exchanger and on the HWM Hydronic Water Module heat exchanger: Part Use On HWM Hydronic Water Module Use On SCW Compressor Unit Thermostat (THF-30) Yes Threaded Clamp No Yes Bracket Yes No Screws (2) Yes No Wire Yes Yes Thermal Paste Yes Yes The two types of installations are shown in Figures 1 and 2. Yes 15 feet of wire is supplied with the kit to provide AMPLE wire to extend from the HWM to the Compressor Unit. FP KIT (07/11) Page 2

Electrical Installation 1. If the switch is being installed in an HWM Hydronic Water Module, run the wire through the electrical port in the top panel of the Hydronic Water Module cabinet. After attaching the wire to the switch terminals, run it into the Compressor Unit (using a control wiring port), in accordance with applicable electrical codes. 2. If the switch is being mounted inside the SCW Compressor Unit, all wiring is internal to the Compressor Unit. 3. Once the freeze protection switch wire leads are inside the Compressor Unit, locate the lock-in relay in the Compressor Unit electric box. 4. Proceed to make the electrical connections as shown in the three steps illustrated in Figure 5. Check all electrical connections to ensure a tight fit and good contact. Start-Up/Operation Figure 5. Three-Step Electrical Installation 1. Replace the cabinet covers to the SCW Compressor Unit and the HWM Hydronic Water Module, as appropriate. 2. Re-apply power to the Compressor Unit (and Hydronic Water Module, appropriate). 3. Restart the system in normal operating mode. 4. If the water solution temperature drops to 38 F, the pre-set switch will trigger and cause the lock-in relay to terminate power to the compressor. The system requires a manual restart.
