Table of Contents Mayser makes public transport safe The entry and exit area of buses and trains is a major hazard zone in public transport. That is why reliable anti-pinch sensors and drag detection systems are important issues not only for passengers and transport providers, but also for manufacturers of vehicles and vehicle doors. The Mayser system, which can be retrofitted, ensures this safety. It features these safety components: Safety edges (safety elements) Non-touch detection system Ultrasonic sensor Surface sensors Transponder system / wireless signal transmission system Control units Mayser safety systems have long offered more than statutory regulations demand. The company is a leader in product quality. It is Europe s top supplier of drag detection systems. Thanks to the reliability and availability of our solutions, Mayser is a yardstick for door area safety. Furthermore, Mayser safety systems integrate seamlessly into public transport vehicles. This is how they ensure higher cycle times. 1. 1. Our solutions Areas of application Mayser supplies non-touch safety systems and pressure-sensitive sensors for buses and trains. Our sensors stop dangerous movements of automatic doors. They also provide reliable anti-pinch and bumping protection as well as lower arm and drag detection also in case of fire. Our surface sensors such as safety steps with extension protection provide additional safety. Included in our range are solutions for: External swing doors Internal swing doors Swing sliding doors Transponder-based signal transmission system Safety edges with safety elements The pressure-sensitive finger protection profiles on the doors contain integrated safety elements. They react to even very small objects by stopping the closing movement of the door. Non-touch detection system Finger protection profiles integrated in the main closing edge react without contact to persons in the immediate critical area of the sensor. They prevent pinching and bumping. The transponder-based wireless signal transmission system from Mayser is an interference-free, maintenance-free system for signal transmission on vehicle doors. Surface sensors Large-surface safeguards for the entry and exit areas of buses and trains provide sensitive surfaces for extending steps such as wheelchair ramps and power steps. Ultrasonic sensor Non-contact ultrasonic sensors are ideal e.g. for monitoring steps, obstacle detection on closing edges and passenger counting. 4 Public transport Public transport 5
2. Safety edges with safety elements Safety edges with safety elements react to even very small objects by stopping the closing movement of the door. The door stops before any injuries can occur. Responsible for this are sensors that protect against hazards from pinching edges. Mayser is the only supplier of fireproof elements. Operational principle Pressure-sensitive Areas to be secured Main closing edge Secondary closing edge Protection class IP67 Applied standards UNECE-R 118 EN 14752 VDV 111 VDV 161 Fire protection standard EN 45545-2 Electronic type Normally-open principle Closed-current principle Customisation options Customised profile design Customised development of safety elements RailFR and RoadFR are fireproof sensors and cables that comply with EN 455 45-2 R26 Level HL3 even without a rubber profile. Safety element monitoring using the closed-current principle Meets all statutory requirements Specialist competence / expertise in the industry Broad range of sensors High degree of customisation possible High project expertise 6 Public transport Public transport 7
3. Non-touch detection system Our non-touch detection system is a non-contact obstacle detection system for bus and train doors that works on the basis of a capacitive sensor. If a passenger approaches the active zone of the sensor, its electrical field changes. The control unit evaluates this information and transmits it to the door control system. The non-touch detection system is a convenience function integrated in the Mayser finger protection profile. Suitable for new constructions and retrofitting. Operational principle Capacitive Non-contact Areas to be secured Main closing edge Secondary closing edge Protection class Evaluation unit IP65 Sensor IP67 Applied standards EN 50155 EN 50121-3-2 EN 14752 EN 50125-1 Electronic type Semiconductor outlet (switching outlet) Profile geometry Adjusted to door kinematics Customisation options External swing door Internal swing door Swing sliding door Does not react to water, dust, external light, leaves, snowfall Positive effect on cycle times Integrated in the door system Non-contact detection immediately on the main closing edge Reliably prevents bumping and knocking over passengers Additional convenience function for drag detection (VDV 111) Public transport 9
4. Ultrasonic sensor Non-contact detection system for step monitoring, passenger counting and safeguarding safety mats. General data Measuring principle Ultrasonic pulse-echo method IEC 60529: protection class Evaluation unit IP65 Sensor IP69K Functional data Ultrasonic frequency Typically 103 khz Sound field geometry ± 17 / ± 5 Measurement frequency 33 Hz Response time Typically 100 ms (in case of multiple scan, 3) Measurement distance Up to 250 cm Resolution 1 cm Electrical data Connection type M12 plug connection Power consumption 150 ma (evaluation unit with two ultrasonic transducers without output circuit) Power consumption max. 3,6 W OSSD outputs Per connected ultrasonic transducer 2 OSSD provide 2 x 2 safe PNP As safe outputs for protection field(s) semiconductor outputs, each 150 ma, short-circuit-proof, cross-circuit-monitored OUT outputs 1 OUT per connected ultrasonic transducer provides 2 x 1 PNP As message outputs for warning field(s) semiconductor outputs, each 150 ma Interface / software USB 2.0 Non-contact monitoring Spatial expansion of monitoring fields Extremely elliptical sound field Very small ultrasonic transducer which can be stalled and integrated at any point independently of the electronic unit. That means it can be optimally integrated even where the installation space is too tight for conventional ultrasonic sensors. Up to two ultrasonic transducers on one electronic system can be configured independently of each other. Static and dynamic applications Two safe OSSD per ultrasonic transducer (sensor) as PNP semiconductor outputs, short-circuitproof and cross-circuit monitored for protection fields, plus one OUT message output as PNP semiconductor output for alarm fields All parameters, both for the application and the ultrasonic sensors, can be set with user-friendly software. 10 Public transport
5. Surface sensors Mayser safety steps are large-area safeguards for the entrance and exit areas of buses and rail vehicles. They provide sensitive surfaces for extending steps such as wheelchair ramps and power steps. Overall height 7-8 mm Applied standards ISO 13856-1: Actuation force: < 150 N Switching cycles: > 4x 106 Topping Coin texture 2K coating, textured surface Anti-slip function R13 Degree of protection: IP67 ISO 4649: abrasion resistance < 100 mg Operating temperature 35 C bis + 70 C Customisation options Shape Colour IEC 60529 Customised surface geometry Very small delivery quantities possible Complete solution supplier Function monitoring using the closed-current principle: self-monitoring Maintenance-free Resistant to environmental and normal chemical influences 12 Public transport Public transport 13
6. Transponder-based signal transmission system Cable connections come under severe strain from constant opening and closing of doors. This is where our wireless transponder system offers an innovative alternative for transmission of signals from the door panel to the door control unit. Suitable for new constructions and retrofitting. Safety classification IEC 61508 SIL2 IEC 62061 SIL2 EN 50155 T1 VDV 111 Degree of protection: IEC 60529 IP65 Operating temperature 25 C to + 55 C Rel. humidity (23 C) 95 % Reaction time t n < 150 ms Reactivation time t w < 200 ms Wear-free, wireless technology Ideal for use in confined spaces Easy to retrofit and quick to install Dirt resistant No power supply to the door panel required 14 Public transport
