4 WHAT YOU CAN DO HERE You have three modes in our system: (1) Explore (2) Compete (3) Gallery EXPLORE MODE a. Explore contestants apartments b. View a room s details to get inspired, learn which furniture was used, which colors were used, and what type of paint products were applied to walls c. Navigate between different apartments d. Share the rooms on social networks COMPET E MODE e. Participate in our contest to win great prizes f. Choose a room of your interest g. Choose colors and create great color palettes to paint your walls h. Choose flooring tiles and apply them to floors i. Choose furniture from our furniture collection and add it to your apartment j. Save your designed room k. Share with friends and others l. Participate in the contest by posting to our Facebook page GALLERY MODE m. 5 HOW- T OS AND TIPS WEBPLAYER PLUG- IN In order to enjoy the full 3D experience, you ll need to download the Unity Web Player. This plug- in enables you to view blazing 3D content created with Unity directly in your browser. You can also download it here: http://unity3d.com/webplayer EXPLORING CONTESTANTS ROOMS Hover over the nine couples. Choose your favorite couple and click on their image to dive into the designed apartments. You can always visit the apartments of the eliminated couples as well as the winning duos. (1) Once you ve clicked on one of the couples, you ll be taken to the 3D environment.

6 You will see the above view of the chosen apartment. Use your mouse to pan and tilt the apartment, and use your arrows to move the building right and left or back and forth. (You can also use the letters A, W, D, and S like the arrows. ) (2) If you hover over the apartment, you ll see an icon of an eye appear i n the center of each room. Click on it to find the cameras in that specific room.

7 You can click on the camera behind that eye to view the room from that specific point. (3) Inside the room, you can walk with the assistance of the arrows or the letters A, W, D, and S and use the mouse to view the detailed assets as well as the ceiling and the floor. Just hold the right button of the mouse and drag down and up; once you release the hold, you ll be able to get a different perspective from the camera. Choose the perspective that you like. (4) C lick on the walls and ceilings to get information on the paint product and the color used. Just click on the I (information icon).

8 (5) For the best experience, get as close as possible to the furniture and walls. Y ou ll be amazed what can you see from close up. (6) C lick with the right button of the mouse on the doors to open, close and navigate between the rooms.

9 (7) To view the apartment from a bird s eye view (top 3D view), click on the bar on the right side. (8) To view the floor plan, click on the floor plan. (9) To go inside the room, click on the eye- icon, and then choose the right camera to dive into the room. (10) You can browse between different contestants - use the top bar to scroll between their names. Click on the name of the couple of your choice to go into their apartment.

10 NAVIGATING THROUGH GALLERY ROOMS In this mode you ll be able to view ALL rooms designed by contestants and by other users just like you. Each room that was decorated using the system and saved will be uploaded to this gallery. To get inspired, please come and visit us often to check out what others have been doing. (1) You can choose a contestant to view the designed rooms. (2) You can view all the rooms in our gallery or filter the rooms you would like to view by a. Color family b. Color mood c. Room type d. Color of the year (3) Scroll down to view the rooms that interest you.

11 (4) Hover over a room s image or click to choose and see that room s profile with its detailed information. (5) Use the arrows on the left and right sides to view the complete set of snapshots, depends on the room there should be 2-4 snapshots. (6) Scroll down to view the details on colors and paints and all the furniture used in that room.

12 (7) You can share the room on your Twitter and Facebook on the right top corner. (8) To walk through the 3D room, just hover over it and click on one of the snapshots. (9) The room will load with its furniture and colors. This may take a moment or two, don t give up; it s worthwhile waiting! (10)

13 COMPETE - HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE GAME (1) Enter the contest, view the floor plan, and choose the right or the left apartment (which is a bit brighter). (2) Hover over all the rooms - c hoose the one you would like to decorate, and click on that room to go into the 3D view. Choose a camera and enter the room. (3) You ll get a new menu that includes:

14 a. Colors b. Furniture c. Flooring (Tiles) Choose colors to paint the walls and choose furniture to decorate your room, w hen you are done with the decoration, you can save the design and share it with others on Facebook. Invite your friends to vote for you by liking and sharing your room. Later our judges will check out the designs and announce the winner. CREATING COLOR PALETTES AND PAINTING WALLS (1) To paint the walls you will need to choose colors. Click on the color wheel icon. You ll have to create a color palette and name it. Click on the Edit icon and enter a palette name consisting up to 13 characters. a. Each color palette can hold 8 different colors (paints). b. You can create as many color palettes as you wish, and you can browse through these palettes with the arrows. To add another palette click on the plus icon near the palettes name. c. Click on Add a color and you ll be redirected to the Complete Dulux Color Palette. All colors are represented by hexagons.

15 d. You can filter the colors by i. Families and moods ii. Years and themes iii. Special colors

16 e. You can also view the colors in a swatch view or in a grid view. f. To view all of the colors, click on All or choose any color family. g. To view color moods, choose between i. Calm ii. Fresh iii. Rich iv. Warm

17 h. Dulux is celebrating A Decade of Color Palettes http://www.colorfutures.com/en_decade_of_color_futures.jsp. To view colors by year, just choose the year between 2004 and 2014. Colors from Dulux Color Futures can be viewed by trends. i. 2004 Showing lots of natural colors, 2004 s palette reflected the modern urban professional s need for relaxation, with aqua blue as color of the year. ii. 2005 Living life to the fullest, travelling, soaking in different cultures: 2005 was all about optimism, with bright orange as the focal point. iii. 2006 For 2006, forces of nature like Hurricane Katrina sobered the palette as a whole, with a tendency toward restorative yellow and neutral tones. iv. 2007 In contrast, 2007 was a year of bright, happy, and intense colors, and a cool pink reflected worldwide urban creativity and innovation. v. 2008 For 2008, the world focused on China as both an economic and Olympic superpower. Imperial yellow was the color of the year. vi. 2009 2009 was a transitional year. The palette was light and serious, with lots of cool neutrals.

18 vii. 2010 As 2010 rolled around, the effects of the credit crunch were visible. Reclaiming (trust) was the theme; clear light blue represented this. viii. 2011 2011 saw the first rays of hope return. Appreciation of life and nature translated into a fizzy yellow as Color of the Year. ix. 2012 In 2012, the theme was Possibilities, as bright and expressive hues called our attention, sparked by hipster culture. x. 2013 The colors of 2013 underlined the idea of worldwide connections, of networks and dialogue, with many deep blues, neutrals, and purples. xi. 2014 2014 is all about Unlocking Potential. Small- scale local projects and soft- spoken talents rule, symboliz ed by light neutrals and surprising brights. i. You can recognize the color of the year by the wider white border surrounding the hexagon. j. You can also choose special colors from Malaysia and Singapore: i. Light & Space colors ii. Ambiance colors

19 k. If you hover over the different color hexagons you can get the initial information regarding that color. l. If you wish to check the color and its availability in different Dulux paints, as well as check their finishes, just click on that hexagon. m. The next screen will reveal all the data you ll need so you can make a good choice of the main color and matching colors. (2) On the left side you can see all the color data: i. Color name ii. Swatch ID iii. Color family iv. Color mood v. Swatch index b. You can choose a different color from the same swatch by hovering over the seven different color tones in the swatch.

20 c. To create a great palette, choose the color schemer : i. Toning ii. Contrasting iii. Harmonizing iv. Dynamic v. Wide contrasting d. While hovering on top of the different colors in the swatches, the background will change and you can view the color of your choice and the matching colors to create the best scheme for your rooms. i. Choose from four different finishes: 1. Matt 2. Low sheen 3. Semi- gloss 4. High- gloss

21 ii. Choose from three substrates: 1. Wall 2. Wood 3. Metal iii. Once you ve chosen a Finish and Substrate, you ll see the different paint products that are available. iv. If there are few products matching your choices, you can view them all and check the differences. v. You can also see the primer and sealers that are required for this job. vi. Choose one and click on the plus icon to add it to the color palette. e. To go back to the full Dulux color palette, just click on the small icon at the bottom left corner. f. You can always go back to your room by closing that window. APPLYING COLORS TO WALLS You can paint the walls from a 3D view or from inside the room (1) Hover on top of the colorful hexagons that you chose as your color palette, and you can see the data of that paint

22 (2) click on a color (Hexagon) and drag the color roller to the wall of your choice, or (3) Choose a wall (click with the right mouse) and choose a color from your palette. (4) Rotate the build to see other walls and paint them (5) To change the color simply choose a different color and apply it on top of the previous color (6) Click deselect all to leave the painting state.

24 To review the colors, paint products, and furniture you ve used, click on the products icon. CHOOSING FURNITURE AND DECORATING THE ROOMS (1) Click on the furniture icon, and on the add furniture. A gallery with all the items will open. You can scroll down to view all the assets, or you can filter by furniture type.

25 (2) When you want to add an item to your collection, click on the add button. You can also read some more information on the item by clicking on the I icon. (P lease note that as this is a b eta version, most of our items are non- branded. There are a few that are branded, and you can see the name of the shop and the address. ) (3) Once the items are added, you can see the number of the new items on top of the bar. (4) Use the close icon to move back from the gallery to the room to furnish it with your items.

26 (5) When you hover over the furniture you can see its brief data. Click with the right mouse button and drag the furniture thumbnail into the room. You can do this while in the 3D view or inside the room. Please remember that there are a few items that cannot be used if you are in a 3D view, e.g. ceiling lights. (6) Click on the item and hold the mouse to place furniture in the right position by dragging it. You ll see three buttons: a. Trash b. Rotate c. Duplicate (7) Positioning the furniture should be easy, as each type of furniture has its own logic. Don t try to hang a mirror on a window or put a sofa on the ceiling (8) Once you ve placed the furniture in the rooms, they ll move from the new cart to the room s cart, so you can locate them and reuse them in different rooms. (9) You can also see how many items of each type you ve used. (10) Clicking on the products icon will reveal what furniture you ve used and how many you ve used in that room.

28 CHOOSING FLOORING TILES AND DECORATING THE ROOMS (1) Click on the flooring icon and choose the tile that interests you. (2) To select, click on the floor, then choose the tile and hold the thumbnail with your mouse. Drag it onto the floor, release the mouse, and you are done!

29 SAVING AND SHARING YOUR DESIGNS As part of participating in our contest you ll be required to save your designed rooms. Please save your rooms when they are ready to be published. Please remember to save your designs, as the current system won t save your rooms authomatically. (1) Choose Yes and follow the instructions to get an email with the instructions. (2) Select the room you want to save from the list of rooms. Make sure that you save the room that you are currently decorating as the cameras taking snapshots of the rooms by room type. You can see the room of the current The Apartment Episode, but you can save a different room per your choice from the complete list. (3) To make sure you participate in the contest, enter your full name, the room s name, and your email, then choose submit to contest and click the arrow to. submit (4) By submitting your design to the contest, you post the room to the gallery. You can view it by going to the gallery and filtering to locate it. You can also find it on our Facebook page (DuluxApartment). (5) An email with instructions will be sent to your mailbox, so please make sure you fill in the right email address. Please check your SPAM folder if you have not received our email

30 Dulux Virtual Reality Decorating Tool Tutorial In your inbox, you ll find an email from DuluxApartment that will consist of four links: (1) A link that should be only used by you, when you want to continue designing your room (2) A link to a copy of your floor plan that you can share with others so they can continue working on your designed apartment (3) A link you can share on social networks and send by email to your friends
