Solution-6 Operators Manual Page 1 Preface Congratulations on selecting the Solution-6 security control system for your installation. So that you can obtain the most from your unit, we suggest that you take the time to read through this manual and familiarise yourself with the numerous outstanding operating features of this system. You will notice that in all aspects of planning, engineering, styling, operation, convenience and adaptability, we have sought to anticipate your every possible reuirement. Operating simplicity and performance have been some of the major considerations and we believe that our objectives in this area have been more than satisfied. This manual will explain all aspects of the user programming options and operating procedures found on the Solution-6. Introduction The Solution-6 security control panel is microprocessor controlled with one of the highest degrees of circuit integration ever seen in a security control system. This not only means more features but greater reliability and performance. Every feature in this design has been accomplished with continual consideration being given to the needs of you, the End User. From the straight forward and uncluttered control console to the simplistic operating method, the Solution-6 is head and shoulders above all others in its class. Listed here are just some of the many outstanding features. A dynamic battery tester has been incorporated which performs continual testing and monitoring of the backup battery's condition and will report any failure through the fault indicator on the system console. The Day Alarm feature enables you to monitor the opening of the front door of a shop, or even the opening of a pool gate. In situations where the main console is installed in a bedroom and the indicators become annoying at night the console extinguish mode, if programmed by your installer, will automatically turn off all the indicators after sixty seconds. The console indicators will illuminate the next time a key is pressed or an alarm occurs. The 24 Hour zone can be programmed to provide a Fire sound through the connected horn speakers should an alarm occur on the 24Hr zone. This feature can be of great benefit when using smoke detectors so that a distinctly different alert tone is generated for a fire alarm. Electronics Design and Manufacturing has injected twenty years of knowledge and expertise into the Solution-6 security control panel making it one of the most flexible, tolerant and easy to operate units available on the market today. Basic System Operation Solution-6 Operators Manual Page 3 The overall purpose of your alarm system is to deter any would be intruder from entering your premises. Before leaving your home or office make that sure all the windows and doors are closed. Key in your designated code followed by the AWAY key. Your alarm system will now arm and commence counting down the pre-programmed exit time. You should exit the building during this time closing the exit path on your way. After the exit time expires, a long beep will be heard and any unsealed zones will automatically be isolated. The system is now ready to accept alarms. If a sealed zone is now opened, a number of pre-programmed events will occur. Following is typical seuence of events. The alarm system will activate the audible devices such as sirens and horn speakers and will trigger the strobe light alerting bystanders and yourself when you return. If you have the optional EDM DIALLER or EDMSTU connected to your system then all relevant alarm information will be transmitted via the telephone line alerting the respective persons of the current situation. The siren timer will commence counting down as soon as an alarm occurs. When this time expires the siren will be automatically turned off and placed into a ready state for the next alarm. Upon your return, the strobe light will still be operating to inform you that there has been an alarm and that care should be taken when entering the premises. After entering the building one or a number of zone indicators will be flashing allowing you to identify which particular zone(s) caused the alarm condition. The next time the alarm system is armed the indicators will be automatically cleared. This is a very basic outline of the general system operation. As there are many features available in your Solution-6, there could be numerous variations from the above seuence. Your installer will be able to explain the exact operation of your particular system.

Controls & Indicators The Console Solution-6 Operators Manual Page 5 The console is the communications interface between you and your alarm system. It allows you to issue commands and offers both visual and audible indications that guide you through the general operation. Console Indicators The system has a number of indicators fitted to the operating console which are capable of indicating a number of different situations. The following table will provide you with the signals that may be given and what they mean. Zone LED's Off Zone Sealed On Zone Unsealed Slow Flash Zone Isolated Fast Flash Zone in Alarm memory Condition Arming in Away mode or or 0 To arm the system in AWAY mode, key in your code followed by AWAY key. The AWAY indicator will illuminate, two beeps will be heard and your pre programmed exit time will now begin. At the end of this exit time any unsealed zone will be excluded, for example if a window is left opened. If the window is closed, this zone now becomes an active part of the system. Opening the window after this time will cause an alarm condition.

Page 6 Solution-6 Operators Manual Arming in Stay mode or or 0 STAY mode is when the system is armed with predefined zones automatically isolated. When there is a need to arm the system perimeter only, this mode is extremely handy. It automatically disables the interior detection zones allowing for movement within the protected area and at the same time arm the perimeter. To activate the system in STAY mode key in your code followed by the STAY key. The STAY indicator will illuminate and two beeps will be heard. Any zones that have been programmed for STAY mode will be automatically isolated and their respective indicators will begin to flash slowly until exit time expires. At the end of exit time a short beep will be given and the zone indicators will extinguish. When this timer expires, any unsealed zone, say a window with a reed switch being left open, will be ignored at the end of exit time and placed into automatic exclusion. If the window is then closed, this zone will become an active part of the system. Opening the window after this time will cause an alarm condition. See Entry Guard Time on Page 14 for further details. Disarming or To disarm the system key in your code followed by the AWAY or STAY key. The STAY or AWAY indicators will extinguish and two beeps will be heard. Isolating zones When a zone is isolated access is allowed into that zone at all times. This can be useful if you wish to leave a pet in the garage for one evening while you are out. When you need to isolate zones ensure that the system is in the disarmed state and press the STAY key. Three beeps will be heard and the STAY indicator will begin to flash indicating entry to the isolation mode. Key in the numbers corresponding to the zones that need to be isolated. As each zone is isolated, the corresponding zone indicator will begin to flash slowly at one pulse per second.

Solution-6 Operators Manual Page 7 If a mistake is made, key in the zone number that was incorrectly entered. This zone is now no longer isolated and the zone indicator will stop flashing and the zone will be returned to normal. When the correct zones are isolated press AWAY key to exit the isolation mode. The STAY indicator will extinguish and three beeps will be heard to indicate a successful exit from the isolation mode. Any isolated zones will now continue to flash. If a zone is programmed as a twenty four hour type, it cannot be isolated. If isolation of this zone is attempted a long beep will be heard to indicate a disallowed isolation. Arming the system will now cause only those zones which are not isolated to become active. The next time the system is disarmed the isolated zones will be cleared automatically. This procedure can be repeated as many times as reuired. See STAY mode operation for automatic isolation of freuently isolated zones. Day Alarm 7 Day alarm is a feature capable of indicating that one or a number of zones are currently opened (the specific zones will need to be assigned by your installer). Lets say your installer has programmed the front door for Day Alarm, an indication will be given every time the front door is opened. This indicator could be your console buzzer or any other external warning device of your choice. It should be noted that this feature only works while the system is in the disarmed state and will not give any indication when the system is armed in either the AWAY or STAY modes. As there may be a need from time to time to disable this feature, you have the ability to do so via the console. Simply turn the day alarm on and of as is reuired. To turn Day Alarm on key in your MASTER code followed by the number '7' then the AWAY key. Two beeps will be heard to confirm a valid activation of day alarm mode. Please note that there is no visual display on the console informing you that Day Alarm has been turned on. To verify correct operation violate one of the Day Alarm zones and ensure that your indicator is working appropriately.

Page 8 Solution-6 Operators Manual To turn day alarm off simply key in the MASTER code followed by the number '7' then AWAY key. Three beeps will be heard to indicate that day alarm mode has been disabled. Walk Test Mode 4 Using Walk Test Mode you can test detection devices to ensure that they are functioning correctly, eg: to check a reed switch on a door. To turn Walk Test on, isolate any zones that are not reuired for walk testing. (see Isolating Zones). Now key in the MASTER CODE followed by the number '4' then AWAY key. Two beeps will be heard indicating successful entry into the Walk Test mode. The console will beep once every second while the system is in the walk test mode. Every time a zone is sealed or unsealed the external sirens will sound a single beep and the system console will give a long beep indicating that the zone is functioning correctly. To turn Walk Test off press AWAY key, three beeps will be heard and the system will return to normal. We recommend that you test your system on a weekly basis to ensure correct operation. Console Tamper An alarm can be triggered if the console is being tampered with. Such an event might be someone repeatedly entering the incorrect code. The number of incorrect attempts that are reuired before triggering this alarm is fixed at 6 attempts. This options can be enabled or disabled by your installer at your reuest. Console Beeper Indications The system beeper which is fitted to the operating console is capable of indicating a number of different situations. The following table will provide you with the signals that may be given and what they mean. The long beep given at the end of exit time indicates that the exit timer has expired. It does not indicate an error.

Mains has failed Short Beep Every 1 Second System is in Walk Test Mode 2 Short Beeps Function enabled 3 Short Beeps Function disabled Console Panic It is possible to trigger a panic alarm from any of the control consoles which are connected to your alarm system. To do this simply press the and keys on the console at the same time. A long beep will be given and any devices such as sirens and strobes that are connected will activate. There is no visual indication that the panic alarm has been activated. Should you have the optional EDM DIALLER or EDMSTU fitted to your system then a corresponding alert message will be sent to your control room. NOTE: A panic alarm is a 24 hour alarm and can be activated any time of the day. No visual display will be given by the console to indicate that a panic alarm has been activated. A long audible beep will be given at your console to indicate that your panic reuest has been accepted and the connected Horn speakers will activate. Console Duress Alarm or 9 This function allows the system to be disarmed and at the same time initiate a duress signal via the optional EDM DIALLER or EDMSTU to the monitoring station. A Duress alarm will only work when you are disarming the control panel and no visual display will be given to indicate that a duress alarm has been successfully activated. To initiate this silent alarm key in any of the system codes followed by the number '9' then the AWAY key. The system will appear to disarm normally but will in fact activate the EDM DIALLER or EDMSTU if connected causing it to call the monitoring station.

Page 10 Solution-6 Operators Manual Programming Master Code Programming Options This section will describe the Master code programming options and will give examples of how each is programmed or used. A table is included at the beginning of the section so that all options can be seen at a glance. The table also shows the factory default settings. NOTE: The default Master Code is 2580 Function Digit 0 Fault Diagnostic Display Master Code Option Description Zone 1 Indicator = Memory Failure Zone 2 Indicator = Battery Low Zone 3 Indicator = Horn Speaker Disconnected Default Value 1 Code Alteration Mode (User 1 to 6) 2580 2 EDMSAT Satellite Siren Service Mode N/A 3 Event Memory Recall N/A 4 Walk Test Mode N/A 5 Entry Guard Time 60 6 Initiate a modem Call to the Alarm link Computer N/A 7 Toggle Day Alarm Mode On / Off 8 Stay Mode Zones 0 1 = Zone 1 2 = Zone 2 4 = Zone 3 8 = Zone 4 9 Send Test Report N/A N/A Fault Diagnostic Display The first of the Master Code options will allow you to identify the cause of a fault condition using the Solution-6 s internal diagnostics. If the fault indicator becomes illuminated on the console it could mean that any one of three possible faults has occurred. To interrogate the system and find the exact fault enter. 0 After pressing the AWAY key two beeps will be heard and the first three zone L.E.D.s will indicate which fault condition(s) has occurred. Following is a description of the three possible fault conditions.

Solution-6 Operators Manual Page 11 Indicator Zone 1 Zone 2 Zone 3 Description Memory Failure Battery Low Horn Speaker Disconnected Memory Failure A Memory Failure condition will be given when the system attempts to write to or read from its internal memory and is unsuccessful. This condition is not user serviceable and you should contact your installer as soon as possible. Battery Low A low battery fault will be reported only after a dynamic battery test has occurred. If the test finds the battery voltage is below 10.5 volts under load then it is considered low. This condition is not user serviceable and you should contact your installer as soon as possible. Horn Speaker Disconnected The Solution-6 panel is capable of monitoring the integrity of any horn speakers that are connected to it via the speaker terminal. Should the horn speaker become open circuit or the cable run become damaged then a Horn Speaker fault will immediately be given. Again this condition is not user serviceable and you should contact your installer as soon as possible. Code Alteration Mode (Master Code Function Digit 1) Function digit 1 is used to change the system User codes from User 1 (Master Code) to User 6. To change any of the 6 possible system codes enter the following remembering to substitute the correct user number. 1???? After keying the installer code 1 and the away key, two beeps will be heard and the AWAY led indicator will flash. You now have 30 seconds to enter the number of the User in uestion followed by the Away key and then enter the new code before the mode is aborted. Should an invalid entry have been made, a long beep will be given as soon as the Away key is pressed and the alteration mode will be aborted.

If User number 3 currently has a code number of 4367 and you want to change the code to 5590 then enter. 1 3 5590 All User codes including the Master Code are programmed using this method. NOTE: The Master code is User 1 EDMSAT Service Mode (Master Code Function Digit 2) Function digit 2 is used to put the optional EDMSAT satellite into service mode should one be fitted to your system. If you have a need to disconnect the EDMSAT from the wall of your building then you will need to put it into service mode so that the satellites internal siren does not sound when the power is removed. The put the satellite into service mode enter. 2 Two beeps will be heard and the EDMSAT will be in service mode. You may then power down your Solution panel without fear of triggering the EDMSAT. When finished simply arm the system or repeat the above mentioned key strokes to reactivate the EDMSAT. Alarm Memory Recall (Master Code Function Digit 3) Function digit 3 is used to obtain an Event memory recall. This feature allows you to playback the last twenty events that have occurred to the system via the zone and status indicators. The RECALL mode will report all arming, disarming and alarm events which have occurred whether the system is in either the STAY or AWAY modes. This function helps with trouble shooting of the system. All recorded events are replayed via the console indicators. Your installer may reuest that you perform an alarm memory recall and take note of the results. To enter the EVENT MEMORY RECALL mode enter. 3 Two beeps will be heard to indicate successful entry to the EVENT RECALL MODE. As stated earlier the system can store 20 events and these may be divided into groups separated by the system armed event. This means that each time your alarm is armed then a new group will be defined. The groups will be played back in reverse chronological order and the individual events in the groups will be in chronological order.

Page 14 Solution-6 Operators Manual Walk Test Mode (Master Code Function Digit 4) Function digit 4 is used to enter the WALK TEST mode. This mode allows all of the connected detection devices to be functionally tested by one person and should be used regularly to maintain system integrity. To enter WALK TEST mode enter. 4 Two beeps will be heard indicating successful entry and then the console beeper will continue to beep once per second. Whilst in this mode, sealing and unsealing zones will cause the console beeper to give a long beep and the horn speakers to give a short beep each time a zone is sealed or unsealed. By moving around the building sealing and unsealing the various zones as you go you will be able to confirm Space detector (PIR) range and coverage area as well as magnetic switch operation. To exit WALK TEST mode simply press the Away key, two beeps will be heard and the mode will be aborted. Entry Guard Time (Master Code Function Digit 5) Function digit 5 allows the Entry Guard time to be set. This feature has been included to provide a subtle warning if a non STAY mode zone (usually a perimeter Zone) is violated while the panel is armed in the STAY mode. If the Entry Guard Time is set to a value greater than 0 and an instant zone is violated, then the system will sound the console beeper twice every second until the programmed Entry Guard time expires. After which time the panel will go into alarm and the sounding devices activate. If the Entry Guard Time is programmed as 0 and an Instant zone is violated then the system would instantly go into alarm and the connected sounding devices would activate. However, should the violated zone be an entry zone then the pre-programmed entry timer would begin. Should the normal handover seuence be followed then the entry time count would need to expire before the connected sounding devices activate. The Entry Guard time can be set to any time between 0 and 255 seconds and is programmed in seconds. Eg. for 1½ minutes enter 90 seconds and for 4¼ minutes enter 255. Preceding zeros do not have to be entered therefore 15 seconds would be programmed as 15 and not 015. To Program the Entry Guard time use the following guide. Preceding 0's need not be entered. 5??? sec Initiate a Modem Call (Master Code Function Digit 6)

Function digit 6 will initiate a MODEM CALL and should only be used if an EDM DIALLER has been interfaced to the Solution-6. Its purpose is to allow the EDM DIALLER's programming options to be remotely programmed. This feature will cause the optional EDM DIALLER to dial the pre-programmed call back number in the EDM DIALLER and attempt to establish a connection with the Upload/Download computer. To initiate a MODEM call enter. 6 Two beeps will be heard and the EDM DIALLER will commence dialling. If a long beep is heard then the function has been denied and you should check that the output type has been set to EDM DIALLER (Installer Code 7) Toggle Day Alarm Mode (Master Code Function Digit 7) 7 Function digit 7 is used to enable and disable Day Alarm. Day alarm is a feature capable of indicating that one or a number of zones are currently opened while the system is in the disarmed state. The specific zones to be active in Day Alarm will have been programmed by your installer. A typical use for the Day Alarm feature might be to provide an indication every time the front door of a shop, home or pool gate is opened. This indicator could be the console buzzer or any other optional external warning device that may be connected to your system. It should be noted that this feature will only work while the system is in the disarmed state and will not give any indication when the system is armed in either the AWAY or STAY modes. As there may be a need from time to time to disable this feature, you have the ability to do so via the console. Simply turn the day alarm on and off as is reuired. To turn Day Alarm on, enter 7. Two beeps will be heard to confirm a valid activation of day alarm mode but no visual indication is given.

Three beeps will be heard to indicate that day alarm mode has been disabled. Stay Mode Zones (Master Code Function Digit 8) 8?? Function digit 8 is used to define which zones are to be automatically isolated when the system is armed in the STAY mode. The STAY mode will allow the system to be armed at night with certain zones automatically isolated so that you can still move around your home or office. This location will allow you to set any combination of the first four zones to be STAY mode zones simply by programming one number. To do this we use a look up table consisting of 4 numbers which correspond to the 4 zones. To select Zone one, Zone two, Zone three and or Zone four simply add the numbers which correspond to the zones that you reuire and that is the number which you program. Sounds confusing but it really is uite simple as the following examples will show. Let us first examine the look-up table. Number Stay Mode Zones 1 Zone 1 2 Zone 2 4 Zone 3 8 Zone 4 As you can see the options are numbered using binary coded decimal (BCD). By adding the numbers of the various Zone that you reuire, you will be left with a number between 1 and 15. This is the number which you program. Example. If you want all of the first four zones to be STAY mode zones, then simply add the option numbers together. 1 2 4 8 =15 15 is the number which must be programmed.

Preceding zeros do not have to be entered therefore if 7 is the reuired number then a 7 would be programmed and not 07. NOTE: The relevant zone(s) reuired for isolation in Stay Mode will generally have been set by your installer and will not need to be changed. Send a Test Report (Master Code Function Digit 9) This function is only relevant if you have the optional EDM DIALLER fitted and should only be performed when instructed to do so by your installer. Function digit 9 will initiate a TEST REPORT and should only be used if an optional EDM DIALLER or EDMSTU has been interfaced to your Solution-6. Its purpose is to test the integrity of telephone line and the functional operation of the EDM DIALLER. After activating this feature, the optional EDM DIALLER will dial the primary phone number which is stored in Locations 00 to 15 of the EDM DIALLER and send a test report signal in the programmed format. To initiate a TEST REPORT enter. 9 Two beeps will be heard and the EDM DIALLER will commence dialling. If a long beep is heard then the function has been denied and you should check that the output type has been set to EDM DIALLER (Installer Code 7).
