General information Cymoxanil, one of the two main active ingredients of CURZATE M WG, is widely used in many countries throughout Europe, with no cases of resistance recorded anywhere. CURZATE M WG will control strains of blight both resistant and sensitive to phenylamides (e.g. Metalaxyl). The rapid penetration of cymoxanil into the leaf and its post-infection, curative activity means that CURZATE M WG provides blight protection both inside and outside the leaf and is effective even under irrigated conditions. CURZATE M WG combines the security of the full rate of mancozeb, the leading protectant, with the semi-systemic activity of cymoxanil, which provides an additional timing flexibility of 2-3 days compared with purely protectant treatments. CURZATE M WG is not damaging to the foliage of potatoes, which together with its excellent blight activity ensures consistent improvements in yield and tuber quality. It can be applied right up to the end of a blight programme, with sprays continuing as long as blight conditions last. Directions for use Crops/varieties and timing All varieties of early and maincrop potatoes may be treated. Processors should be consulted before treating any crops grown for them. Spray at the first risk of infection e.g. when a Blight Infection Period (Smith Period) has occurred or an official blight warning has been issued. Otherwise, spray as the crop meets within the rows. Repeat at 7-10 day intervals, according to disease incidence and weather conditions. Reduce the spray interval to 7 days: on irrigated crops. on very susceptible varieties e.g. Russet Burbanks. when active blight is present in the area on crops, dumps or volunteers early in the season. when the weather favours very rapid disease development. Continue spraying until the haulm dies down or is desiccated. There is no harvest interval and no maximum number of treatments. potato blight fungicide Curzate M WG 87
Rate of use 2 kg CURZATE M WG per hectare. Application Apply CURZATE M WG in 200 litres of water per hectare using a medium quality spray. A higher water volume may be used in dense or thick crops to improve coverage. Minimum interval between sprays/intervals 7 days. Limit to number of applications None. Resistance management When fungicides with the same mode of action are used repeatedly over several years in the same field, naturally occurring less sensitive strains may survive, propagate and become dominant in that field. It is therefore advised that wherever possible spray programmes should include fungicides with differing modes of action. Disease controlled Potato blight (Phytophthora infestans). Compatibility Refer to Compatibility appendix. Mixing CURZATE M WG mixes easily with water, but the following mixing procedure should be followed. Quarter-fill the spray tank with water and start the agitation. Slowly add the required quantity of CURZATE M WG directly to the tank. Continue agitation while topping-up the tank and while spraying. 88 Curzate M WG potato blight fungicide
