Using Combinations of Branching on Recently Rooted Liners Presented by: Paul Pilon Perennial Solutions Consulting Jenison, Michigan paul@perennialsolutions.com
Trial conducted to determine potential opportunities for using various PGR combinations on recently rooted liners. Tested six perennials: Anemone sylvestris Gaillardia grandiflora Fanfare Blaze Phlox paniculata Nicky Phlox subulata Purple Beauty Salvia nemorosa Caradonna Veronica spicata Eveline Rooted liners provided by Swift Greenhouses (Thank you). Shipped from Iowa 8/19/14 Received in Michigan 8/21/14 unboxed, placed in greenhouse at DGI Propagators Spray applications made on 8/23/14 Using Branching Compounds on Recently Rooted Liners
Spray combinations tested: 2000 ppm B-Nine + 350 ppm Florel 300 ppm Configure* + 350 ppm Florel 2000 ppm B-Nine + 300 ppm Configure* 300 ppm Configure* + 400 ppm Augeo Using Branching Compounds on Recently Rooted Liners * Intended to use 150 ppm Configure in these combinations. Salvia Appearance at the Time of Application
5 Days After Application Using Branching Compounds on Recently Rooted Liners Too early to distinguish differences between treated and untreated plants. Insignificant differences noted. Treatments containing Configure had slight chlorosis Veronica Eveline
5 Days After Application Using Branching Compounds on Recently Rooted Liners The treatment with Augeo had the most chlorosis Phlox paniculata Nicky
5 Days After Application Using Branching Compounds on Recently Rooted Liners Trays treated with were darker green than the untreated trays. Salvia Caradonna
14 Days After Application Using Branching Compounds on Recently Rooted Liners Trays treated with were darker green than the untreated trays. Veronica Eveline
Anemone sylvestris -14 Days After Application Trays treated with had the best color and growth characteristics (size). No Branches No Branches Small Branches Developing - Best Some Branches Developing No to Some Branching
Anemone sylvestris -25 Days After Application Trays treated with had the best color and growth characteristics (size). No Branches No Branches Still Best Color Lots of Branching Off Color - Best Some Branches Additional App? Insignicant Branching Chlorotic/Burn
Veronica Eveline -14 Days After Application Trays treated with had the darkest /nicest foliage. Tallest - No Branches Slight Branching - Inconsistent Thinner Leaves Slight to Some Branching Some Branches Developing - Inconsistent Lower Laterals Developing - Inconsistent
Salvia Caradonna -14 Days After Application Trays treated with had the darkest /nicest foliage. Tallest Laterals Developing Lower Laterals Developing Dark Leaves Most Branching at Top Some Lower Some Branches Developing Laterals Developing at Top of Plant
Salvia Caradonna - 25 Days After Application Tallest Not to Slight Branching Slight Branching Dark Leaves Most Branching at Top/Small Some Lower Some Branching Upper Branches/Elongating

At 14 Days After Application: Gaillardia 2000 ppm B-Nine + 350 ppm Florel Using Branching Compounds on Recently Rooted Liners Best Appearing Flats Dark Coloration Reduced Plant Size 300 ppm Configure* + 350 ppm Florel Most Branching Observed 2000 ppm B-Nine + 300 ppm Configure 2 nd Best Treatment (Branching) 300 ppm Configure* + 400 ppm Augeo Most Chlorosis and PGR Effect Branching Looks Good (Lower rates in future (Configure 150 ppm, Augeo 200 ppm) Configure + Florel
Improving Results with Branching Compounds Ensure complete coverage using an appropriate volume Apply when the leaves can remain wet for minimum of 4 hours Apply to actively growing & stress free plants Roots to the edge of the liner Consider applying multiple half rate applications instead of a single higher rate application 14 Days Apart
