PONDSIDE Newsletter of the Orlando Area Koi & Pond Club July, August, September 2014 Just as children go back to school after summer vacation, the OAKPC swings back into action. This summer seems to be extremely hot and humid for Florida. Our next meeting, which seems to be an annual event will be at Rob & Hazel Forbis s on Saturday, September 20 th at 6:00 pm. This will be the third yearly meeting, since their massive expansion in 2012. And each year the pond has matured into a more beautiful botanical setting. Address & directions on the last page of this newsletter.
Our June Mtg at Daryl & Benna Pirmal. We had a good gathering for a hot Sunday evening. The Pirmal s gave a warm welcome (no pun intended) with a great spread of food and Koi conversation.
Bok Tower Gardens There are many attractions in the Central Florida area to take a road trip. One such attraction is Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales. As a member of Leu Gardens in Orlando, Sammi & I use the reciprocal free admission. There are many reasons we make the 50 mile trip to the gardens, but the best is the motte surrounding the Carillion bell tower, with a large koi community. They are not a flashy bunch of koi, but the setting is wonderful for a trip to the top of the hill to feed a sandwich bag full of koi food. Sometimes the simplest things become priceless. Just recently they have upgraded and expanding their trails. And don t forget the lovely restaurant, outside terrace, gift & plant shop. boktowergardens.org Calendar of Events September Meeting Rob & Hazel Forbis October Meeting Dave & Amanda May November Meeting Not scheduled December Meeting Not scheduled *********************************************************************** Our facebook page has a large international flair with 666+ friends.
