SUMMER 2004 1001 Oakdale Road Oakdale, PA 15071 www.indsci.com Phone: (412) 788-4353 Fax: (412) 788-8353 E-mail: info@indsci.com Malaysian Fire and Rescue Organization Makes Industrial Scientific Part of its Commitment to Quality Adopting a total commitment to quality is how Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat, Malaysia plans to realize its vision of becoming a world-class fire and rescue organization. Known as Bomba, the group has implemented a comprehensive program that reiterates a strong dedication to serving the local communities of the Southeast Asian nation. Their slogan Quality Personnel, Effective Service means not only employing highly skilled individuals, but also utilizing the latest innovations in technology and equipment. Part of this effort to strive toward a higher level of professionalism involved Bomba standardizing its gas detection equipment to the itx Multi-Gas monitor, with 600 units configured for O 2, CO, H 2 S and LEL. Additionally, the department equipped each of the 600 itxs with an isp sample draw pump for fire investigation, leak survey and confined space response applications. With departments in various locations, the organization determined that the itx, with its ability to accommodate additional sensors and expand to a six-gas monitor, would provide added flexibility for each department. Bomba plans to upgrade many of its instruments by adding sensors depending on the risk assessments that are conducted by each department. For example, one location near a fertilizer plant will INSIDE New Products / Product News Trade Show Schedule International News upgrade its instruments with an NH 3 sensor, while other departments with specific concerns about Cl 2, SO 2 and/ or HCN will upgrade their instruments accordingly. Another benefit to Bomba is the itx s stainless steel case, which provides the durability necessary to withstand the harsh environments and demanding workload (25,715 fires in 2002) that its firefighters face on a daily basis. The itx s compatibility with the Docking Station also brings additional value to Bomba s gas detection program, which now includes 240 DS1000 Docking Stations and 240 itx Instrument Docking Modules. With this purchase, Bomba was able to equip each of its 220 departments, and account for their plans to add several new stations in the future. Being able to automate instrument maintenance with the Docking Station for this many locations provides a measure of relief to Bomba engineers who are responsible for the care and maintenance of all fire engines and equipment. The Docking Station s ability to store data on all calibrations and bump tests also ensures that Bomba s safety requirements are being met. As a result, the organization s 10,628 employees are better able to focus on its mission, which is To provide professional and excellent fire and rescue services in protecting life, properties, environment and humanitarian services at any calamities. In Malaysia, Industrial Scientific is quickly becoming the premier manufacturer of gas detection equipment Bomba officials including Dir. Gen. Dato Jaafar Bin Tambi, Director General, Fire and Rescue Department, Malaysia (second from right), inspect an itx gas monitor at an open house media event where the department displayed some of their recently purchased equipment. for government owned entities including PETRONAS, Malaysia s national petroleum corporation. Having a longstanding record of supply and service to the Malaysian oil and gas industry and emergency services was instrumental in establishing the relationships that led to the supply contract with Bomba. With six service centers located in six Malaysian states and numerous mobile service vans, Industrial Scientific s reputation for superior service in the region will be even further strengthened as Bomba is provided with dedicated training and service for such a large and widespread gas detection program.
