Stainless Steel Unvented Cylinders
1992 Tornado 1 1996 Tornado Elite 1999 Tornado 2 2002 Tornado and Tempest Stainless Steel Modern Day Requirements More people are finding that today s requirements for plentiful hot water can only be met by storage systems. The ultimate provider of high pressure hot water is a Tornado or Tempest unvented cylinder. We made our first unvented cylinder in 1992. Our extensive manufacturing knowledge enabled us to produce a unit from heavy gauge Grade One Copper. We updated the design on two occasions, incorporating features to enable easier installation. Responding to rapidly changing market expectations we undertook, in 2001, detailed research and consultation with developers, installers and specifiers alike. The result was investment in new manufacturing facilities and in 2002 we launched our Tornado and Tempest Stainless models. All of our domestic unvented cylinders are now formed from 2304 Duplex Stainless Steel. Tornado and Tempest units are finished using a wipe-clean, white coated steel case. Continuing our philosophy of using only the finest materials, the heat loss from the cylinders is minimal, making them extremely economical to run. We are so confident of the construction that we offer a lifetime guarantee* on our Stainless Steel Tornado and Tempest models. As we are continually responding to market requirements we have extended our Stainless Steel range to include cylinders for multiple energy sources including solar energy and horizontal models for use where space is at a premium. *Contact Telford Copper Cylinders for guarantee details. 1
Updated specification Greater coil efficiency Solar Energy versions Twin Coil versions Horizontal versions 2007 Why Choose Telford? Because we use Duplex 2304 Until recently, Duplex 2304 was reserved only for use in chemical plants and refineries. Due to its corrosion resistant properties it is a far superior grade of Stainless Steel than that used by the majority of other cylinder manufacturers. The reason we use Duplex 2304 for our unvented cylinders is to ensure total peace of mind for the end user. Not only this but when the cylinder is manufactured it goes through a special process to ensure the Stainless is working at maximum potential. An added feature of stainless cylinders is that an anode is not required. This benefits the customer as the changing of an anode is a time consuming and costly exercise and failure to replace the anode will lead to the mild steel cylinder corroding prematurely. Duplex steel is recyclable. As much as 90% of post service steel is converted into prime stainless steel product. Whichever way you look at it Duplex 2304 is superior. As a result the cylinder becomes highly resistant to all forms of corrosion, including pitting and crevice corrosion. 2

Installation Cold water supply Telford Stainless unvented cylinders are capable of delivering up to 55 litres of hot water per minute given an adequate supply. The minimum recommended supply is 20 litres per minute at 1.5 bar. What boiler should I use? To ensure peak performance and efficiency the cylinder should ideally be connected to an oil-fired or gas condensing boiler. The primary circuit must be pumped and can be open vented or sealed. Energy requirement (BTU/KWH) will vary according to cylinder volume. Location Our stainless cylinders can be sited virtually anywhere in the home, but consideration must be given to service clearances and the weight of the cylinder when filled. The properties of any stainless grade are defined not only by its alloy content but also by the way it is produced. Austentic stainless steel 316L is often used in water tanks. This grade offers limited strength properties, so needs to be thick enough to handle the internal pressure. DUPLEX 2304 Our Duplex 2304 Tempest and Tornado Stainless Cylinders offer optimised composition alloy elements that have created a stronger and corrosion resistant product that out performs not only other stainless steels but other solutions too. Cylinder Body & Ends Duplex 2304 Stainless Steel. Domed ends are precision manufactured and welded to the body, producing a strong and reliable vessel. Outer Casing White steel with laminated coated finish and corrosion resistant base. Wipe clean surface. Thermal Insulation CFC and HCFC free rigid polyurethane foam. Primary Coil continuously wound rapid recovery coil, suitable for pumped primary systems only. Immersion Heaters Supplied with all models (two on direct). Low noise high grade Incoloy elements and safety cut outs. Titanium immersion heaters are available for an additional cost.
Performance Heat-up and re-heat times assume a cold water temperature of 15 0 C If using a twin coil variant, where the second coil is linked to a solar energy recovery application, the recovery times listed will improve significantly. Linking Tornado or Tempest together. There are occasions when one cylinder is just not sufficient to cope with demands placed upon it. In these circumstances it is possible to link two or more units together. If this sort of installation is required, please call our Technical Assistance line on 01952 257963. 7
Variants Tornado Easy-fit Twin Coil Stainless Vented Since perfecting the product, several developers have approached Telford Cylinders and asked if we would pre-plumb our successful Tornado Cylinder. Using market leading components we are able to fabricate the Tornado to any configuration that may be required, ie S & Y-Plan. This saves valuable time on site for both the plumbing and electrical contractor and ensures a uniform installation in each plot. Environmental issues are currently at the forefront of peoples thoughts. Developers are now looking at solar energy as a complement to gas or oil powered boilers. Solar not only benefits the environment by reducing the amount of natural resources we consume, but also makes the heating of a building far more efficient and helps to lower utility bills. Our twin coil stainless cylinder is available in all sizes throughout the Tempest range and includes all necessary safety controls. In areas where water quality is especially aggressive we have developed a vented cylinder from stainless steel. Because of the superior anti-corrosive characteristics of Duplex stainless steel the benefits over a standard copper cylinder are significant. The unit is available white cased or foam lagged. 8
