High test speeds and tailor-made functions make this unit an attractive solution for supplying current or voltage to LEDs with low to medium power output. Up to four test channels can be provided for multi-chip LEDs (e.g. RGB or RGBW). Combination with high-precision array spectrometers from Instrument Systems creates a test system that meets the highest requirements for optical and electrical testing carried out on LEDs. As a bipolar current and voltage source, the LSM 350 provides all the functions necessary for testing LEDs fast. The automatic polarity test feature can be used for single and multi-chip LEDs. Dedicated test channels permit particularly precise measurements at low forward currents of 1 μa, and measurement of reverse currents in the na range. The basic module can be expanded by an option to measure breakdown voltages up to 40 V. Top priority was given to short settling times when the unit was being developed. As a result, test cycles are up to 40% below those of most standard current sources. The LED 350 is fully integrated in the LED Tester software from Instrument Systems, allowing test routines to be set up quickly and effortlessly with binning specifications and statistical analyses. Optimized for Production Testing The functionalities of the LSM 350 were tuned exactly to the requirements of online production testing of LEDs. This allows all the important parameters of LEDs to be determined quickly and reliably in a 24 h/7d application. The modular concept of the LSM 350 permits a large range of combinations with a few basic modules and different enclosures to cover all applications in production settings and laboratories. OEM Module All versions of the LSM 350 are based on the LSM 350-011 bipolar source and measure unit, which integrates all the necessary characteristics in a chassis model. Short electrical settling times guarantee fast test workflows. They are up to 40% faster than comparable and more expensive LED current sources. Automatic polarity identification and reversal ensure that current is supplied to the LED with correct polarity. The LSM 350 also features a separate test channel for reverse currents in the na range. All test channels have been designed for 4-wire measurements in order to achieve the highest measuring accuracies. Further options facilitate measurement of breakdown voltage up to 40 V. This HVR add-on is also compatible with the multichannel versions with or without Switch Matrix. OEM chassis module Laboratory Version The LSM 350 is available in a table-top enclosure for easy laboratory measurements under the same conditions as in production settings. This allows all tests that are normally carried out on automatic sorting machines to be carried out manually in the laboratory instead. Laboratory version in table-top enclosure Switch Matrix Module When testing multipole LEDs with a common cathode or anode (e.g. RGB LEDs), it is important to ensure the correct orientation of the LED on automatic handlers. If users are unable or do not want to accommodate a dedicated test station because space is a top priority or budgets are tight, the Switch Matrix Module of the LSM 350 offers the opportunity of wiring up the LED correctly within a few milliseconds depending on its orientation. The Switch Matrix Module The Switch Matrix Module consists of an additional chassis for each LSM 350 module and is compatible with all multichannel versions of the LSM 350.

Your total light and display sensing solution. Speed is King The fact that the LSM 350 can deliver the benefit of very short test cycles is demonstrated by the following example. The standard job used here involves these measurements: An optical test at rated current and 9ms integration time of the spectrometer (this test also includes measurement of forward voltage at rated current), measurement of the reverse current, and electrical measurement at 1 μa in the forward direction. Electrical measurements are carried out at precisely the same time on all dies. The diagram below illustrates this using a 4-chip LED with LSM 350 (top) and a rival model (below). Complete System for Production The LSM 350 can be integrated effortlessly into the modular concept of the LED Tester from Instrument Systems. This proven turnkey system for production testing can be used for fully automated testing and sorting of LEDs and for testing LED wafers. Simple hardware and software interfaces facilitate easy connection to all common LED handlers, wafer probers and die sorters. The LED Tester comprises the following components: - Array Spectrometer - Source and Measure Unit - Industrial PC - 19 Rack complete with wiring - TTL Interface box - LED Tester Software LED Tester with LSM 350 in the turnkey system Measurement of a 4-chip LED with the LSM 350 (top) and a competitor s model (below) This considerably shortens the duration of the test cycle compared with other current sources: Four channels LSM 350 Rival model 1x optical test at 10 ma 35.6 ms 66.6 ms 1x electrical test 35.2 ms 60.4 ms Standard job 218 ms 282 ms A choice of spectrometers with a proven track record is available from Instrument Systems for optical measurements: the high-end Model CAS 140CT or the more cost-effective CAS 120. Measuring adapters and integrating spheres compatible with CIE127 are available from Instrument Systems for all spectrometers. Calibration is carried out in conformity with the stringent specifications of ISO17025 and is traceable to national standards of the PTB (Germany) and NIST (USA). The comprehensive software of the LED Tester offers an array of functions for testing single LEDs and LED wafers. Alongside defining virtually any sequences of electrical and optical measurements, sorting can be specified for LEDs in conformity with all the measured parameters. The software also provides statistical functions for evaluating the results and a dedicated wafer mapping module.
