Description The MDVS TM system consists of an exhaust fan, the BESB Box Ventilator, the MEC18 Mechanical Exhaust Control, XTP pressure transducer and a VFD-Variable Frequency Drive (3-phase ventilators only). The MEC18 maintains a constant pressure for the dryers by modulating the speed of the BESB Box Ventilator. The MDVS TM system is supplied as a complete package with ventilator(s), control(s), pressure sensor, duct probe and adapters for mounting on a duct or a wall. Sizes The system is available in multiple sizes as shown on the following page. Listings ETL-listed to UL705 for Power Ventilators with special consideration given to the transport of lint-laden air. CSI Specifications CSI Model Specifications are available from ENERVEX and via the internet at us.exhausto.com. The document number is: 3917003. Operation The pressure set-point must be programmed manually via the potentiometer on the MEC18 control board. Other parameters, such as optional post purge and manual/ automatic reset, may be set with the dipswitches on the control board. The clothes dryers are not interlocked with the MEC18. When one or more clothes dryers are in operation, the control increases the speed of the ventilator to maintain the pressure set-point. When a clothes dryer shuts down, the MEC18 reduces the ventilator speed to maintain the setpoint. This sequence is repeated every time clothes dryer operation is initiated. When no dryers are in operation, the ventilator runs at an idle speed to maintain the pressure set-point. If proper exhaust cannot be maintained because of mechanical or electrical failure, the control will go into alarm mode and run the ventilator at 100% speed. If the ventilator experiences mechanical or electrical failure, the MEC18 will send and alarm signal to the building management system. This will not interrupt dryer operation because they are not interlocked with the control.

3932010 05.12 Product Information Mechanical Exhaust Control MEC 18 Use The MEC 18 is a fan control used to monitor pressure in single or multi-story building exhaust applications. The control modulates the fan speed to maintain proper and constant pressure in the exhaust system. The MEC 18 is used with models EFV, BESF and BESB. The MEC 18 is for indoor installations only. Typical uses include: clothes dryer venting, bathroom and kitchen exhaust and other building venting applications. Description The MEC 18 monitors pressure in an exhaust duct via a XTP2 Sensor. The XTP2 constantly senses the pressure in the duct and as the pressure varies, the control adjusts the speed of the fan to maintain the pressure set-point. The MEC 18 operates a single phase fan using a 10-120 VAC signal. The control sends a 0-10 VDC signal to a Variable Frequency Drive to operate a 3- phase fan. When the system is energized, the fan begins to run at full speed. Once the pressure setpoint is reached in the duct, the control adjusts the fan speed to maintain proper pressure. The control contains an optional integrated safety system that shuts down the appliance(s) in the event of a mechanical or electrical fan failure. For multiple appliance interlock one or more ES12 controls may be required. The control has fast reaction times (max. 20 seconds) and a very stable control signal assuring accurate fan operation. Material Enclosure is made of polycarbonate and is NEMA 4x rated.
