DN1902-0909 SETTING UP A VIRTUAL KEYPAD WITH A DSC POWERSERIES ALARM SYSTEM The purpose of this application note is to configure the EntraPass system to interface with the DSC PowerSeries tm alarm systems via the use of a virtual keypad. With EntraPass Version 4.02, you can view and use the virtual keypad to perform any commands available from a standard DSC keypad; commands such as arm, disarm and programming the alarm panel. For a card swipe disarming integration you would still need to use the traditional method of integration with alarm systems (using relays and inputs from a Kantech controller). Requirements: EntraPass Corporate Edition or EntraPass Global Edition (version 4.02 and above) installed A Corporate gateway for EntraPass Global Edition or Global Gateway with a dual gateway feature DSC PowerSeries tm alarm panel and an IT-100 module RS-232 Straight-through cable Serial port on EntraPass Corporate gateway computer Hardware Setup: To connect the IT-100 to the EntraPass system and the DSC PowerSeries tm alarm panel, follow the steps below: (For more information please refer to the DSC IT-100 manual) 1) To wire the IT-100 to the alarm panel: a. Power down the alarm panel b. Connect the IT-100 module using a 4-wire KEYBUS connection to the PowerSeries tm alarm panel. Connect the RED, BLK, YEL and GRN terminals to the KEYBUS terminals of the PowerSeries tm alarm panel. c. Power up the alarm panel. 2) To connect the IT-100 to EntraPass: a. Connect a RS-232 straight-through cable between the IT-100 serial port to the computer s serial port. The IT-100 can be connected at a maximum of 98.4ft (30m) at 9600 baud rate from the EntraPass Corporate Gateway. EntraPass Setup: 1) To program the DSC Virtual Keypad, go to the Devices tab and select the Integrated Device button. a. In the Integrated Device tab, make sure the View component hierarchy button is not pressed. b. Press on the New button and in the English text box, name the device accordingly. c. In the Panel Type drown down list, select DSC PowerSeries IT-100. d. In the RS-232 tab select the communication port COM that the IT-100 is connected to. e. Save the configuration. 2) To change the name of the virtual keypad; go to the Devices tab and select the Integrated Component button. a. In the Integrated Component window, select the appropriate component in the Component drop down list. b. In the English textbox, name it accordingly. c. 3) To view the status of the DSC Virtual Keypad, go to the Operation tab and select the Integrated Device button. a. Left click on the Integrated Device on the left. b. On right panel, select the DSC Virtual Keypad and right click on it with the mouse. c. Click on Full Status to view the communication status of the unit. If you do not get the same results as shown above; please verify that your EntraPass gateway is communicating with EntraPass and that your RS-232 cable is correctly inserted into the serial ports. For further troubleshooting, please contact technical support. 4) To view and use the DSC Virtual Keypad, go to the Operation tab and select the Integrated Device button. a. Left click on the Integrated Device on the left. b. On right panel, select the DSC Virtual Keypad and right click on it with the mouse. c. Select Virtual Keypad Using the mouse, you can click on any buttons on the Virtual Keypad as if you were using a standard keypad. 5) To view a virtual keypad from a graphic, go to the Definition tab and select the Graphic button a. Choose the appropriate graphic from the Graphic drown down list. - If you do not have a graphic; you would need to create a new one. b. Click on the Click here to create, edit or modify a graphic button. c. Drag and drop the Panel component icon on the graphic screen d. Select the Keypad from the list box e. From the Keypad icon right click and select Default Double Click as Virtual Keypad f. Close the window by clicking on the X at the top. g.
