(See attached file: Ballater - PSwan request 15.01.09.pdf) Regarding your last question - at present it would be difficult to say categorically that all housing need is represented on Aberdeenshire Council's waiting list, quite simply there may be applicants on other registers which we are currently not aware of, so I would therefore suggest that you don't make that assumption. Aberdeenshire Council are currently working with Moray Council and the other registered social landlords (commonly known as housing associations) with a view to operating a Combined Housing Register so that applicants requiring housing in either the Aberdeenshire or Moray area will only have to register once for all social renting landlords, however this will not include other housing providers such as private landlords, large estates for example. I hope you find the information useful, however please feel free to contact me should you have any further enquiries. ---------+----------------------------> "Phil Swan" <pjswan@gmail.com > 13/11/2008 14:43 ---------+----------------------------> To: Elaine.Reid@aberdeenshire.gov.uk cc: Subject: Re: Fwd: Housing List Elaine, We spoke again at some length on Wednesday afternoon. You explained to me that the recording and analysis of applications for housing in Ballater is somewhat complex, owing to the fact that any applicant can lodge multiple housing applications for placement in Ballater. To summarise my understanding of what you have already told me, I interpret the situation to be as follows: 1. There are, at peresent (as at 1/10/08) a total of 85 applicants, currently living at all locations, who have requested Ballater as their first choice of location for housing by Aberdeenshire Council. 2. You stated that, of the total of 85 applicants, 57 requested 1 bedroom accommodation,19 requested 2 bedrooms, 7 requested 3 and 1 requested each of 4 and 5 bedroom accommodation. 3. Further, I understand that these 85 applicants (who made applications for Ballater as their first choice of location) are part of a wider

group of applications for Aberdeenshire Councl housing. Your IT colleagues have done a search for applications from applicants currently living 'in or around Ballater', broadly defined as an area spreading roughly along Deeside from Banchory to Braemar. This search has yielded a total of 180 applications for housing in Ballater. 4. A further search covering applicants from all locations more remote from Ballater has yielded a further 207 applications for Ballter. 5. The 85 applicants for Ballate as a first choice are 'buried' in the two numbers 180 anhd 207, ie totalling 387 applications. My few (hopefully final!) requests are as follows: 1. Please can you confirm that my precis, above, of the existing situation is correct? 2. Please can you tell me how many of the 85 applicants who have nominated Ballater as their first choice location are already living in the Ballater area, defined as Ballater village, plus Cambus O'May, Glen Gairn, and Glen Muick. 3. Please can you tell me how many of the same 85 applicants as mentioned in question 2 are living inside Ballater village bundary? 4. Would you agree that it is likely that any housing applicant who has put his or her name on a waiting list with housing suppliers other than Aberdeenshire Council will be very likely to have registered with the Council also? In other words, is it ok to assume that the Aberdeenhire Council list represents all existing demands for affordable housing in Ballater? I very much appreciate your help and patience and hope that the above request is not too onerous and that my interpretation of the situation is in line with your own understanding. Regards, Phil Swan

2008/11/7 <Elaine.Reid@aberdeenshire.gov.uk> Good afternoon thank you for your email enquiry regarding the waiting list and Ballater. I have contacted our Information team to enquire as to whether we can provide the information in the format which you require. I will contact you again in due course Kind regards Elaine Reid Strategic Development Officer (Housing Strategy) ( 01261 835020 8 elaine.reid@aberdeenshire.gov.uk * 10 Manner Street, Macduff AB44 1SE ---------+----------------------------> "Phil Swan" <pjswan@gmail.com > 06/11/2008 16:23 ---------+----------------------------> To: elaine.reid@aberdeenshire.gov.uk cc: info@swandesign.uk.com Subject: Fwd: Housing List

Dear Ms. Reid, I do hope my direct approach to you does not give rise to any annoyance for you. However, I was given your contact details by Allan Jones this afternoon, so I thought it would be ok to send the text of my original questions to you. I am one of a relatively small number of statutory objectors to the Cairngorms National Park Local Plan, for Ballater. One area of special concern to us relates to the means for assessing the, needs for affordable housing and for meeting those needs. I need some current, specific data, for which I can see no other source than your own organisation:, How many applications for housing in Ballater are there on the waiting list for people currently living in or around Ballater? How many applications for housing in Ballater are there on the waiting list for people not currently living in or around Ballater? In each case, would it be possible to give me details of the distribution of housing types being sought? I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.
