SWG have a London base that is more cool studio than mundane office. A concise 10 week programme saw an empty canal side industrial shell transformed into a cool, contemporary and very efficient workplace. The informal calm belies the fact that Branch Place is a powerfully connected technological hub. This duality is something we pursue in our work. A very concise programme and a stringent budget necessitated Jackdaw Studios implementing a Design and Build contract. This enables very precise responsive project management. WORKPLACE DESIGN WEDNESDAY LOCATION / SHOREDITCH, LONDON DATE COMPLETED / 2013 AREA / 1502 SQM A very powerful creative player in the fashion industry. Jackdaw Studio were commissioned to design the London Studio. Located in The Biscuit Building in Shoreditch we created a very elegant contemporary workspace. The space is calm and contemplative in counter response to the pace and energy of their creative process. The space is effortlessly informal and allows responsive versatility. It is designed to give abundant clean gallery spaces where garments and product can be viewed beautifully. The company recently rebranded as Wednesday. MIXED USE DEVELOPMENT PIANO HOUSE LOCATION / BRIXTON, LONDON DATE COMPLETED / IN PROGRESS AREA / 1020 SQM A current work in progress. A heritage Victorian warehouse in Brixton. The client had a clear vision of the place being repurposed to be a contemporary, efficient and versatile creative facility. The response is a subtle refinement of the original feature and detail. It retains and reveals the authentic architecture to beautiful effect. The covered yard becomes an easy social hub. Jackdaw Studio were also appointed to create the brand identity, website and print collateral for Piano House. All of the creative elements were concepted and developed in unison. The approach meant that the identity was designed with the scale of the building in mind. The ability to bring together a number of disciplines to achieve a consistent, thorough and precisely integrated design defines Jackdaw Studio. HOSPITALITY DESIGN VIA HOSTELS LOCATION / LIMEHOUSE & LEWISHAM DATE COMPLETED / 2016 AREA / 750 SQM VIA is an entirely new brand concept in the young travel sector. Energy and attitude are a part of the identity. It is design that needs, more than ever, to be durable. Jackdaw Studio were collaboratively involved from the concept stage. Identity is a critical element in the strategy of VIA as a brand. This led to Jackdaw Studio designing and prototyping, bespoke lighting, furniture and fittings. The two hostels were designed to an open brief that required a cool, energetic and easy place that would stand up to the rigor of fast, international young travel. RETAIL DESIGN BY-WALSKI LOCATION / SHOREDITCH, LONDON DATE COMPLETED / 2012 AREA / 400 SQM By-Walski is a brand that distills all that is cool about surf and skate culture. Jackdaw Studio collaborated with Frank Bywalski to create a brand space. Frank s ambition was expansive. A gallery like retail space would occupy the ground floor. On the first floor would be an open studio for the company. Above this would be an apartment. By-walski is a very international operation. Frank is an impressively connected figure with a lot of interesting people passing through. In this instance By-Walski defines the contemporary idea of a retail space feeling more akin to a gallery, the studio space having a cool and informal residential energy and the apartment feeling like a comfortable creative studio. WORKPLACE DESIGN WIEDEN + KENNEDY An ongoing creative relationship with a global advertising heavyweight. We were originally appointed to devise and conduct a workshop for Wieden + Kennedy. The exercise proved sufficiently productive and inspiring to extend the exercise to redesign their two London buildings. A critical factor was the fact that the spaces had a very limited lifespan due to an impending relocation. This primary long term objective was to define the future building requirements for W+K. This took the project to a new and exciting point where interior design becomes creative theory. The work completed on the project will justify the effort and investment when W+K relocate. The project research also marks another exciting exploration into the design of standard product. This was always an ambition of the studio and the prototyping of furniture for W+K has become the starting point for a furniture collection. This innovative, simple and versatile modular kit of parts is central to the concept. Unique and responsive design for a very creative client.
