The Jacobean House incorporates elements of the original Abbey dating from the 12th and 13th century and is principally 16th century, built of red sandstone. Stoneleigh Abbey entertained Charles I when the gates of Coventry were closed against him. Jane Austen, a relation of the family, stayed at the Abbey, and Queen Victoria and Prince Albert visited in 1858. The freehold of the Abbey is now owned by Stoneleigh Abbey Limited, a preservation trust, and the state rooms to the east side of the Abbey are open to the public, in the summer months.
