Before servicing or cleaning unit, switch power off at service panel and lock service panel to prevent power from being switched on accidentally. When the service disconnecting means cannot be locked, securely fasten a prominent warning device, such as a tag to the service panel. 3. Installation work and electrical wiring must be done by qualified person(s) in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including fire-rated construction codes and standards. 4. Sufficient air is needed for proper combustion and exhausting of gases through the chimney of fuel burning equipment to prevent back-drafting. Follow the heating equipment manufacturer's guidelines and safety standards such as those published by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the American Society for Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the local code authorities. 5. When cutting or drilling into wall or ceiling, do not damage electrical wiring and other hidden utilities. 6. Ducted fans must always be vented to the outdoors. 7. Do not connect this unit to any solid-state speed control device. 8. To reduce the risk of fire, use only steel ductwork. 9. This unit must be grounded. TO REDUCE THE RISK OF RANGE TOP GREASE FIRE: 1. Keep fan, filters and grease laden surfaces clean. Grease should not be allowed to accumulate on filter or fan. 2. Always turn hood ON when cooking at high heat or when cooking flaming foods. 3. Use high range settings on range only when necessary. Heat oil slowly on low or medium setting. 4. Don t leave range unattended when cooking. 5. Always use cookware and utensils appropriate for the type and amount of food being prepared. WARNING: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF INJURY TO PERSONS IN THE EVENT OF A RANGE TOP GREASE FIRE, OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING*: 1. SMOTHER FLAMES with a close-fitting lid, cookie sheet, or metal tray, then turn off the burner. BE CAREFUL TO PREVENT BURNS. If the flames do not go out immediately, EVACUATE AND CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. 2. NEVER PICK UP A FLAMING PAN YOU MAY BE BURNED. 3. DO NOT USE WATER, including wet dishcloths or towels. 4. Use an extinguisher ONLY if: A. You know you have a Class ABC extinguisher and you already know how to operate it. B. The fire is small and contained in the area where it started. C. The fire department is being called. D. You can fight the fire with your back to an exit. *Based on Kitchen Fire Safety Tips published by National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). CAUTION: 1. For general ventilating use only. Do not use to exhaust hazardous or explosive materials and vapors. 2. To reduce the risk of fire and to properly exhaust air, the hood must be exhausted to outside air. Never exhaust into a wall, an attic or a concealed area in the building. This can create a potential hazard. 3. Consult a licensed ventilation contractor or qualified technician for proper installation of exhaust ducting. Locate the cooking area for minimum cross drafts-away from doors and windows, when possible. 4. Ducts must be of adequate size and duct runs should be as short as possible. Where turns are necessary, keep turning radius as large and as smooth as possible. 5. The ducting must be air tight. Use a minimum of 2 sheet metal screws at every duct joint. Then, seal the duct joints with high quality duct tape. 6. Only use ductwork constructed of materials deemed acceptable by state, municipal and local codes. Be extra careful when unpacking the range hood. Although stainless steel is a very hard material, it will scratch easily and is difficult to repair cosmetically. When removing the hood from the box, set it on its bottom with cardboard or foam blocks under each end to avoid damaging the filters or scratching the underside of the hood. 2. Be extra careful when removing the stainless steel duct covers, When lifting, the top and bottom sections of the duct cover must be held together from the ends; otherwise, the inside section may slip-out and fall when tilted, causing damage. 3. Be extra careful not to drop tools on the top of the hood. We recommend that throughout the installation, the hood top be covered with soft towels to help protect the finished surfaces from dropped screw drivers, screws, etc. PART 2 PLANNING THE INSTALLATION WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, use only metal ductwork. 1. Decide the location the ductwork will run between the range hood and the outside wall or roof cap. 2. Short, straight duct systems will allow the hood to perform most efficiently. 3. Long duct systems with numerous elbows and transitions will reduce the performance of the hood. Limit the duct length and use of elbows as much as possible. 4. Install either a roof or a wall cap. ESH5200 range hoods come with dampers attached to the hood. The roof or wall cap should NOT have a damper blade or should have the damper blade removed. Connect the metal ductwork to the cap and work back towards the hood location. 5. Installation should be performed by a qualified person, in compliance with all the current building codes. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for damages caused by improper installation. THE ELECTRIC SUPPLY LINE FOR ALL HOODS MUST BE LONG ENOUGH TO ALLOW FOR THE HOOD TO BE DETACHED AND PLACED ON A COUNTER TOP FOR SERVICE. PART 3 INSTALLATION Wall-Mounted Hood Installation 1. Remove the tape and attach the bottom bracket of the Electronic Module ( B ) to the range hood chassis with the three enclosed screws. On some models the Electronic Module may already be attached. 2. Remove the tape holding the damper blades closed. 3. Mark the proper location for the two screws / bolts that will attach the hood to the wall ( A ). This can be done by carefully measuring or lifting the hood into place and marking both screw locations. If placement does not allow for at least one of the two screws to be secured to an existing stud, a wood frame cross brace will need to be installed between two studs. Given the weight of the hood, it must be mounted securely. 4. Mark the ceiling cutout for the actual duct cutout (e.g., 6 round duct) allowing room for the electrical cord on the outside of the duct. IMPORTANT: CUTOUT MUST BE WITHIN THE DIMENSIONS OF THE STAINLESS STEEL DUCT COVER, OTHERWISE IT WILL BE VISIBLE. 5. Secure the range hood to the wall in both locations using the supplied screws and washers. WARNING: For maximum ventilation performance, the bottom of the hood should be 30-36 inches (76.2-91.4 cm) above the cooking surface (minimum is 24 ). This would typically result in the bottom of the hood being 66-72 inches (167.6-182.9 cm) above the floor. These dimensions provide for safe and efficient operation of the hood. Always observe local building codesu. 6. Position the metal bracket that holds the top section of the stainless steel duct cover in place and attach with the enclosed mounting screws. If at least one wall or ceiling joist is not available, use drywall anchors. IMPORTANT: The bracket must be properly aligned; otherwise the duct cover will be slanted. IMPORTANT: In most installations, the stainless steel duct cover will be installed flush to the ceiling. Given this installation, the duct cover bracket should be mounted flush against both the wall and ceiling. See adjacent picture. There are holes for attaching to the wall or ceiling (or both), whichever provides the most secure installation to hold the weight of the top section of the stainless steel duct cover. 7. Place the vent pipe over the start collar on the range hood and attach with metal-type duct tape. Note: Do not block the damper blades with screws or any other object. The damper blades must freely open and close in order for the hood to work properly. IMPORTANT: If any screws are dropped into the duct cover, they must be removed; otherwise, they could block the damper, rattle or worse, fall into the motor / blower. 8. Connect the electrical wires. See Part 5. 9. Carefully assemble both telescopic sections of the stainless steel duct cover together and place on top of the hood. IMPORTANT: When lifted, the top and bottom sections must be held together from the top and or bottom; otherwise, the inside section will slip out and fall out when tilted over the hood possibly damaging the hood. Note: The inside telescopic section has two screw holes on the topside that align with holes on the duct cover mounting bracket. PART 4 USE AND CARE WARNING: Do not operate the range hood without the filters in place or with dirty, grease-laden filters. Always activate the range hood when using cooking appliances. For best performance, turn on the blower a few minutes before starting to cook to establish an airflow pattern within the room. Adjust the fan speed as needed. ENERGY SAVING TIPS: Eliminate air currents in the hood vicinity by shutting nearby windows and doors, turning off ceiling fans and adjusting the adjacent heating and air conditioning outlets if necessary. Place larger pans on the rear burners whenever possible. Always use lids on cookware to retain heat and moisture. Minimize the amount of liquid used to cook food. Select cookware of proper size, material and construction for the cooking task being performed. Clean filters and grease laden surfaces often to improve efficiency. CARE AND CLEANING: Proper cleaning is necessary to maintain performance and appearance, while also ensuring safe operation. The frequency of cleaning should be according to the type and amount of cooking. Best results will be achieved by cleaning soiled components as soon as possible. Filters must be cleaned regularly and can be placed in the dishwasher. Place on the TOP RACK to protect from the intensive heat of drying element. To remove filter, pinch clip holder and pull down. CAUTION: Most types of scrubber pads will scratch the hood. If a glass or stainless steel cleaner is used, it is important to read the labels for chlorine or ammonia compounds. Chlorine and ammonia are corrosive substances that may damage the range hood s finish. Many household products such as Windex with Ammonia-D and Zep contain ammonia. It is best to NOT USE products with ammonia. If these compounds have been used, rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft lint-free cloth. Follow polish manufacturer s instructions. Always wipe stainless steel surfaces with the grain never wipe across the grain. After cleaning, reinstall the filters carefully. LIGHTING: To change the halogen bulbs, rotate the stainless steel light unit cover counter-clockwise. Carefully pull the halogen bulb out of the fixture and replace with a 20-watt equivalent bulb. Replace the cover. PUSH BUTTON Control Models A - On & Off (Hood comes on at Speed 2) B - Reduce Blower Speed C - Increase Blower Speed D - Turbo-Boost. Automatically decreases to Speed 2 after 10 minutes. E - Halogen Lights On & Off NOTE (ALL MODELS): All models include a sensor that indicates when the aluminum grease filter(s) needs to be cleaned. After 40 hours of operation, an F (for Filter) will appear in the display to indicate that the filter(s) need to be cleaned. To reset the counter on push button models, while hood is off press and hold the D button for 5 seconds. On all push button models only, after 80 hours of operation a C (for Charcoal filter) will appear in the display to indicate that the carbon filter needs to be replaced. However, only select models that re-circulate air back into the kitchen, (e.g., the Isabella) have this option. Hoods installed to vent outside the house do utilize this feature and it should be deactivated. To do so, while the hood is off, press the B button for 5 seconds. If this function needs to be restored or to reset the counter if hood is installed to re-circulate, while the hood is off press the C button for 5 seconds. Activated charcoal filters become saturated and will not absorb odors after a period of time, normally after 80 hours of usage depending on types of foods cooked. PART 5 ELECTRICAL CONNECTION (Copy this page to your electrical installer.) WARNING: Ensure that the power supply is disconnected before proceeding. Verify that the power supply matches the ratings found on the appliance data label before proceeding. The range hood must be properly grounded at all times when electrical power is applied. Do not ground the range hood with the neutral (white) house supply wire. A separate ground wire must be utilized. Failure to complete electrical connections properly may result in damaged or non-functional systems. Follow instructions carefully to ensure proper installation. It is the owner s responsibility to ensure that a qualified person performs the electrical connection of this range hood. The electrical installation, including minimum supply wire size, must comply with the National Electric Code ANSI/NFPA 70-1990 (or latest revision) and local codes and ordinances. A copy of this standard may be obtained from: National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), 1 Batterymarch Park, Quincy, Massachusetts 02269-9101 THE ELECTRIC SUPPLY LINE FOR ALL HOODS MUST BE LONG ENOUGH TO ALLOW FOR THE HOOD TO BE DETACHED AND PLACED ON A COUNTER TOP FOR SERVICE. 1. A 15 or 20 amp electrical service is recommended. Always use a dedicated circuit. 2. Run wire through the round hole in ceiling then through both sections of the stainless steel duct covers. Be sure the duct covers are properly positioned. See PART 3, Step 7. 3. To access hood s electrical box, remove 3 screws from cover plate (See C in the first picture of PART 3). This warranty may be voided if any unauthorized service, alterations or repairs are made to the product. What is Not Covered 1. Normal maintenance and service of any product that has been subject to misuse, negligence, accident or installation inconsistent with the recommended installation instructions. 2. Product used other than for normal in-home use or products used outside of the United States. 3. Damage to the product caused by accident, fire, flood or other acts of God. 4. Service calls to educate the customer in the proper use and care of the product, correct faulty installation, change fuses or reset breakers.
