CONDENSATE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ISC accomplishes condensate removal from our air conditioners by routing the refrigerant hot gas through a condensate boil off pan. The pan is located ahead of the condenser at the hottest point in the refrigerant system where the gas temperature is 180 to 260 F. Condensate is evaporated and the vapor is discharged through the condenser blower to the environment. Additionally, this condensate evaporation helps to pre-cool the hot gas, making the equipment more efficient. By utilizing this pre-cool method, we lower the overall use of energy needed to power our air conditioners. This condensate boil off pan has enough water storage capacity to dehydrate the air in your equipment enclosure and vent it off without overflow so long as the enclosure remains closed. In the event that the enclosure will remain open, ISC does supply an Emergency Overflow Fitting on all of our units. Use of this Fitting is only for extreme open-door applications and should not be utilized in typical or even heavy applications. ENCLOSURE HEAT SYSTEM The ISC Enclosure Heat System is incorporated into the evaporator section of the air conditioner, thereby utilizing the evaporator blower for cooling or heating. Electric heating elements with thermal overloads are available in three ranges to suit most applications. The heater is controlled by our programmable, digital temperature controller. The controller has separate programmable upper and lower control limits for cooling and heating, and a programmable dead band to prevent simultaneous operation of heating and cooling. The temperature set points for cooling and heating can be field adjusted in one-degree increments. The temperature set points can be protected by keypad protection. OD Remote Controller Option When having our Programmable Digital Controller on the face of our Enclosure Air Conditioner does not fit your application, ISC offers the OD package. The OD package moves the controller into your enclosure using a 10 cable along with a universal, 16 gauge powder coated steel mounting bracket. As shown below, the Enclosure Air Conditioner would have no hole on the face of the unit creating a secure application of our Enclosure Air Conditioner. 2 DEEP EXTENDED SURFACE AREA FILTER AND FILTER FRAME Many applications and environments are excessively dusty. If your application is in a flour mill, cement plant or coal processing plant, you understand. These types of environments can create real problems for an air conditioner that by its very design requires a steady flow of reasonably clean air in order to function. The reality is that air conditioners are only as good as their air flow. Because of this, ISC offers our extended surface, 2 deep filter and filter frame assembly. Pictured below, this slide in, slide out filter frame and filter combination will increase the filter capacity 400% over our standard filters. The filter is washable and replaceable. The life expectancy is determined by the environment and the ways in which it is washed and cleaned. This deeper filter frame fits in the standard holes on our NE Series units. CONTROL SYSTEM FOR REDUNDANCY & LEAD/LAG In applications where you require redundant systems to share the cooling requirements, ISC has developed a system that will toggle back and forth between the two units thereby giving them each equal operating time. Additionally, this system provides for the situation where one unit becomes disabled. In this event, the second unit continues to provide the appropriate amount of cooling to your electrical enclosure while the disabled unit would be in alarm mode. This system is intended for 100% redundancy where failure is not an option. This is our alternating, or toggle system. ALTERNATING CONTROL This control method is intended to provide cooling to a common enclosure by two (or more) air conditioners which alternate operation rather than share load. This provides 100% redundancy while balancing the run time on each unit. Two self contained air conditioners with independent dual stage thermostats will be connected with a toggle control so that the units will alternately share the cooling load. In the event of the failure of one unit, the toggle system will be deactivated and the cooling load will be switched to the remaining operational unit. A failure signal will be available to alert the customer that one unit has failed. HIGH LIMIT Each Thermostat has a high set point which is used as a failure alarm. What Makes Our Panel Air Conditioner Unique? AIR FLOW Note the tapered sides of our air conditioner, our design ensures efficient airflow to cool the air conditioner in a tight installation (vs. a box shape air conditioner). We have a slanted top. This forces any water on the top of the unit to drain, thus prevents water pooling. DIGITAL TEMPERATURE CONTROLLER Our digital controller incorporates programmable set point and temperature controls, visible error and or alarm messaging, system status indication and password protection. Remote control is available with our Out Door series. These vandal resistant units provide a 10 cord that connects internally to your enclosure. ACTIVE CONDENSATE ELIMINATION Our design eliminates drain lines and buckets by routing the refrigerant hot gas lines through a condensate boil off pan. This also eliminates the hazards that go along with the puddles and buckets associated with drains. UNIT EFFICIENCY By pre-cooling the refrigerant in the condensate collection pan before it re-enters the refrigeration loop, we lower the energy needed to affect a phase change of the refrigerant. Also, by blowing the vapor laden air through the coil to the outside environment, we equalize the temperature across the coil, lowering energy consumption. This efficiency is evidenced by our lower running amps. Pressure operated blower control reduces power inrush thus consumes less energy. All units incorporate die-cut insulation on all interior sheet metal parts including the shroud (cabinet). Thermal expansion valves are installed in all of our air conditioners instead of capillary tubes. Thermal expansion valves adjust to your operating conditions allowing for much better temperature control, performance and provide lower operating costs. Compressor run capacitors reduce power inrush each time the compressor comes on, saving energy and extending the life of the compressor. HIGH PRESSURE SHUT DOWN Part of our digital controller safety function is to go into alarm if the filter media becomes clogged. Other manufacturers who utilize digital controllers have an alarm interval based on the time between filter cleanings. By using high and low pressure switches, we insure that you are notified before you have a costly failure. Vortex Enclosure Cooling How Enclosure Coolers Create Cold Air COMPRESSED AIR IN 80 PSIG CONTROL VALVE 20% COLD FRACTION VORTEX GENERATION CHAMBER HOT AIR OUT 250 F / 139 C COLD AIR OUT -40 F/ C Air that rotates around an axis (like a tornado) is called a vortex. A Vortex Tube creates cold air and hot air by forcing compressed air through a generation chamber which spins the air centrifugally along the inner walls of the Tube at a high rate of speed (1,000,000 RPM) toward the control valve. A percentage of the hot, high-speed air is permitted to exit at the control valve. The remainder of the (now slower) air stream is forced to counter flow up through the center of the high-speed air stream, giving up heat, through the center of the generation chamber finally exiting through the opposite end as extremely cold air. Vortex tubes generate temperatures down to 100 F below inlet air temperature. A control valve located in the hot exhaust end can be used to adjust the temperature drop and rise for all Vortex Tubes. The Vortex Cooler system is thermostatically controlled to save energy. The Vortex Cooler system has continuous cooling models available. How it Works The Vortex A/C utilizes vortex tube technology to create refrigerated air. With no moving parts, a vortex tube spins compressed air into a vortex with rotational speeds of up to 1,000,000 RPM. The spinning airflow separates into hot and cold airstreams, with cold air temperatures reaching as low as 50 F below the compressed air inlet temperature. The cold air stream passes through an external muffler before it is released into the electrical enclosure. The hot air stream is muffled and exhausted out the back of the unit. The refrigerated air entering the enclosure creates a positive pressure of approximately 2 water column inside the enclosure to keep external dust and dirt from entering the cabinet. As cold air losses its refrigeration to cool the electronics, it forces hot air to rise in the enclosure where it is pushed out through vent openings in the Vortex A/C, exiting out the back of the unit. A highly reliable, built-in mechanical thermostat operates a valve to control airflow and cooling. The new 5000 BTUH Vortex A/C model features dual vortex tube cooling units, each with its own reliable mechanical thermostat to provide two-stage levels of refrigeration. To conserve energy, the first stage offers 2500 BTUH cooling capacity and, if needed, a second stage activates to double the supply of refrigerated air to the enclosure.
