standards action - november 22, 2002 - page 13 of 21 pages American National Standards Maintained Under Continuous Maintenance The ANSI Procedures for the Development and Coordination of American National Standards (ANSI Procedures) provide two options for the maintenance of American National Standards (ANS): periodic maintenance (see clause 4.4.1) and continuous maintenance (see clause 4.4.2). Continuous maintenance is defined as follows: The standard shall be maintained by an accredited standards developer. A documented program for periodic publication of revisions shall be established by the standards developer. Processing of these revisions shall be in accordance with these procedures. The published standard shall include a clear statement of the intent to consider requests for change and information on the submittal of such requests. Procedures shall be established for timely, documented consensus action on each request for change and no portion of the standard shall be excluded from the revision process. In the event that no revisions are issued for a period of four years, action to reaffirm or withdraw the standard shall be taken in accordance with 4.4.1 and 4.4.3. The Executive Standards Council (ExSC) has determined that for standards maintained under the Continuous Maintenance option, separate PINS announcements are not required. The following ANSI Accredited Standards Developers have formally registered standards under the Continuous Maintenance option. AAMVA AGRSS ASC B109 (AGA) ASHRAE ASME ASTM NBBPVI NSF International TIA Underwriters Laboratories Inc. To obtain additional information with regard to these standards, such as contact information at the ANSI accredited standards developer, please visit ANSI Online at www.ansi.org, select STANDARDS INFO, and choose "American National Standards Maintained Under Continuous Maintenance". This information is also available directly at http://web.ansi.org/public/ans_main/default.htm. CEN and CENELEC are composed of European member bodies whose countries cooperate within the European Economic Community (Common Market) and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). Their primary purpose is to develop standards needed to harmonize European interests and prevent technical barriers. Both CEN and CENELEC are committed to adopting standards developed by ISO and IEC wherever possible. ANSI is publishing this information to give U.S. interests an opportunity to obtain information, and to comment on proposed European Standards and/or Harmonization Documents being circulated for enquiry. Anyone interested in obtaining this information, and/or commenting on proposals should order copies from ANSI. Comments regarding CEN are to be sent to Henrietta Scully at ANSI s New York offices. Comments regarding CENELEC are to be sent to Charles T. Zegers, also at ANSI s New York offices. Ordering Instructions ENs are currently available via ANSI s ESS (Electronic Standards Store), accessed at www.ansi.org. prens can be made available via ANSI s ESS "on-demand" via e-mail request. Send your request for a pren to be made available via the ESS to Customer Service at sales@ansi.org and the document will be posted to the ESS within 3 working days. Please be ready to provide the date of the Standards Action issue in which the pren document you are requesting appears. CEN European drafts sent for CEN enquiry The following European drafts have been sent to CEN members for enquiry and comment. If the draft is a proposed adoption of an International Standard, it is so noted. The final date for offering comments is listed after each proposal.
