FDOT: Improving Mobility & Safety in Central Florida FDOT is Designing and building a better I-4 through Central Florida Improving mobility and safety on 60 miles of I-4 from Polk County into Volusia County I-4 Ultimate (opening 2021) Wekiva Parkway (opening 2021) I-4 Beyond the Ultimate, North and South

I-4 Beyond the Ultimate Two 20-mile sections on either end of I-4 Ultimate North: S.R. 434 to east of S.R. 472 in Volusia County South: Kirkman Road to west of U.S. 27 in Polk County North and South sections divided into 6 segments Have received Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study approval Currently in preliminary design May be broken into different construction segments based on available funding Right-of-way needs are being identified and acquisition is underway

Goals of I-4 Beyond the Ultimate Increase safety Increase mobility/ease congestion Increase connectivity among Central Florida communities Increase and support alternative transportation modes: rail, bicycles, pedestrians Support the region s economy and lifestyle long into the future

I-4 Beyond the Ultimate: By the Numbers Based on preliminary design, I-4 Beyond the Ultimate will include: 129 rebuilt, new or widened bridges 55 new drainage ponds 22 interchanges improved or significantly rebuilt

I-4 Beyond the Ultimate Typical Sections 6 general use lanes + auxiliary lanes 4 Express Lanes (2 in each direction)

I-4 Beyond the Ultimate Typical Sections

Express Lanes Provide options Variable tolls based on demand Priced to maintain 50 MPH Limited access points Direct connection ramps Concrete barrier separation Reduce congestion in general lanes Electronic toll collection

Seamless Travel Between I-4 Ultimate & I-4 Beyond the Ultimate Aesthetic treatments consistent with I-4 Ultimate Tolling gantries, pylons, lighting and signage all consistent

Corridor-wide Aesthetic Treatments

Corridor-wide Aesthetic Treatments FDOT is coordinating with local governments to determine the level of aesthetic treatment at each interchange Some gateway interchanges may get enhanced treatment
