Take contro with... Energy Efficient Contros 1

A LEGACY OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND COST SAVINGS Nuaire and ventiation contros go back a ong way, starting from the days when the thenowner Brian Moss was a eading figure in the Buiding Services Industry eventuay becoming Chairman of CIBSE. In the eary 1970s the word was facing the first oi crisis, and it became obvious that the high quantities of carbon emissions being reeased into the atmosphere were destroying the panet. A fair proportion of these emissions coud be attributed to eectric motors running inefficienty without contros and wasting vauabe energy resources. Historicay, fans and motors had to have a transformer or eectronic speed controer fitted remotey and wired back to the unit, introducing additiona cost and wasting time on site when energy seemed cheap and pentifu and no one knew about the damage to the environment, many contractors and consutants woud seect a fan product as cose as they coud to the design duty and not insta the speed contro. This saved the wiring and contro costs but didn t make the energy savings needed. Brian Moss, as a eader of CIBSE and with an understanding of these wastefu practices, had the foresight to instruct his Nuaire Engineering team to deveop a simpe contro system that coud be fitted to the fans we produced that woud give contractors and consutants the toos needed to operate fans at the correct speed, providing a simpe and cost effective way to save energy and reduce running costs. 1972 1982 MICROSAVE was born in 1972 as a contro concept for Nuaire s market eading Twin fan range and incorporated extra ow votage wiring between fans and controers, auto changeover faciity and simpe speed contros. Not ony did this save in wiring costs but it aso provided the customers and contractors with the abiity to correcty set the speed for the fan - therefore saving energy and running costs. The Microsave concept was ess wiring, ess space, ess expense - something that Nuaire has kept as its key principe for a of its contros since 1972. MICROSAVE NETLINK foowed in the eary 80s, as customers demanded more accurate energy contro, improved comfort in buidings and ever ower instaation costs. Netink was designed to fuy integrate with a range of matched sensors and detectors and to offer an inexpensive contro soution providing comfortabe conditions deivering energy savings for a fraction of the price of an Energy Management System. SMART, deveoped in 1992 saw the introduction of a fu range of room and duct mounted sensors combined with wa mounted controers inked by our Safe extra ow votage (SELV) wiring to fans and heat recovery units with onboard speed contros. A revoution in comfort contro and energy saving for ventiation products used in decentraised spaces. SMART became the UK s most used energy saving contro for this type of appication, as consutants, contractors and cients reaised they coud have the same contro functions of a Buiding Management System on smaer schemes, without the additiona cost of compicated contros. SMART coud ink severa fans together, speed contro them in proportion to the temperature or humidity provide on/off timed sequences and sti report fan faiures to a contro pane. ECOSMART was a natura evoution from SMART contros. Launched in 2002, it has now become one of the UKs eading energy efficient contro systems for the decentraised ventiation market. This eary era was a time of change as consutants worked with architects to produce buidings with ower energy footprints and improved buiding enveopes in an effort to reduce energy and conserve fues. Large AHU systems went out of fashion and individua room/ zone ventiation became common, which is where ECOSMART found its natura home. It was obvious that the way forward was for consutants to have the abiity to specify a fan/hru that coud be instaed with its own contro system and that coud have a wide range of sensors pugged in to give contro over CO2, temperature and humidity. The fact that this ECOSMART system is a standaone contro fitted to neary a Nuaire products, featuring time cocks, presence detectors and sensors, with the option to be inked to a BMS at an affordabe cost was not missed by the consutants and contractors and ECOSMART became synonymous with on-board contro systems, and created a bench mark for the industry. 2 029 2085 8200

1992 2002 2008 2015 In recent years, ever increasing energy bis and tighter contros on emissions have ed to stricter Buiding Reguations, raising the bar required to deiver sweeping improvements to the buit environment. This, couped with an ever growing demand for tighter contro and coser integration of buiding services equipment has ed Nuaire, once again drive the market forward with a ground breaking contro soution, ECOSMART CONNECT. Nuaire was the first ventiation manufacturer to introduce ow votage energy saving contro systems onto its products. Nuaire continues to ead the industry by expanding the proven ECOSMART contros patform with new ECOSMART CONNECT and ECOSMART ADAPT network contro soutions. CONTENTS PAGE LEGISLATION 4 ECOSMART CONTROL PLATFORM 5-7 BASIC CONTROL (BC) 8 ECOSMART CLASSIC was the first pug and pay contro on the market and has been a core Nuaire product for the ast 13 years. ECOSMART CONNECT enhances Nuaire's offering with fu BMS integration via BACnet MS/TP (expandabe to IP with additiona router). Mutifunction sensors are avaiabe in one sma compact unit. ECOSMART CONTROLS LEGISLATION Approved Document Part L (2013) and section 6 (2015) of the Scottish Buiding Reguations states that Fixed buiding services sha have effective contros and that contro strategies shoud be organised such that priority is given to the east carbon intensive energy source. Buiding contros are being asked to moderate and minimise energy use in a buiding, with the reguations stating that buiding service systems shoud be provided with appropriate contros to enabe the achievement of reasonabe standards of energy efficiency in use. Under norma circumstances, this egisation suggests that the foowing features woud be appropriate for heating, ventiation and air conditioning system contros: The systems shoud be subdivided into separate contro zones to correspond with each area of the buiding that has a significanty different soar exposure, usage pattern or type of use. Each separate contro zone shoud be capabe of independent timing and temperature contro and, where appropriate, ventiation and air recircuation rate. The provision of the service shoud respond to the requirements of the space it serves. If both heating and cooing are provided, they shoud be controed so as not to operate simutaneousy. Centra pant shoud operate ony as and when the zone systems require it. The defaut condition shoud be off. In accordance with the requirements of Part L and section 6 of the Scottish Buiding Reguations, Nuaire provide the optimum contro avaiabe, combined with the most efficient use of energy. Exampe: For a centra mechanica ventiation system with heating and cooing, and heat recovery via a pate heat exchanger pus return air fiter: SFP = 1.6 + 0.3 + 0.1 W/(/s) = 2.0 W/(/s) Tabe 37: Recommended minimum contros for air distribution systems in new and existing buidings from BS EN 15232:2012. ECOSMART CONNECT CONTROL (CO) DESCRIPTION OF CONTROL SOFTWARE STRATEGY CONFIGURABLE MODE (VIA SWITCHED LIVE 2) The switched ive 2 input is a configurabe input that can be set to perform a number of functions. The function is set via the network input Configurabe Mode SL2. These functions wi incude the foowing: Fan Boost (Defaut Setting) This enabes Fan Boost mode Heater Boost The heater function wi be enabed. Fan speeds wi be increased where necessary to keep suppy temp at the heater boost setpoint. (Defaut 35 C). FAN BOOST When the contro receives a boost signa, from either the network input Boost or Configurabe SL2 configured to boost the fans wi run at boost speed. Once the signa is removed the fans wi run on for a time defined by the boost run-on setpoint. HEAT BOOST When the contro receives a heat boost signa, from either the network input Heat Boost or Configurabe SL2 configured to heat boost, the heater output wi increase to 100%. The fan speed wi be increased as required to reach the heat boost setpoint. TEMPERATURE CONTROL SUPPLY TEMPERATURE CONTROL (DEFAULT) Whie an enabe signa is present, this mode moduates heating, cooing & heat exchanger bypass dampers with the aim of the suppy air reaching the temperature setpoint. Pease note that heating and cooing outputs wi ony function if the Heating Type or Cooing Type network inputs are set to heating or cooing options. Room Air Temp Suppy Set Point HX Bypass HX The heat exchange bypass damper operates by cacuating the suppy air temperature based on the return air temperature, the outside air temperature and the heat exchanger efficiency. (Eg. A 13 C outside air temperature with a 23 C return air temperature wi give a suppy air temperature of 20.5 C). The contro then chooses the damper position which requires the minima heat/coo tempering in order to achieve the setpoint. Bypass Outside Air Temp. Note that the white areas indicate regions where either heat exchanging or bypassing wi achieve the same suppy temperature. ROOM TEMPERATURE CONTROL Whie an enabe signa is present, this mode moduates heating, cooing & heat exchanger bypass dampers with the aim of the room air reaching the temperature setpoint. Pease note that heating and cooing outputs wi ony function if the Heating Type or Cooing Type network inputs are set to heating or cooing options. When heating or cooing is required achieve the room setpoint, the output of the heat/coo oops are spit between ventiation demand or heat/coo demand according to the foowing graphs. The intermediate boost zone is the area in which a sma amount of free-heat/cooing is avaiabe. In this zone, heating/cooing is used to boost the free-heating/cooing. In room temperature contro mode, the bypass damper is controed according to the foowing chart. A minimum suppy air temperature imit is incuded to stop the heat exchanger being bypassed when the air temp is uncomfortaby cod, even though cooing is required. In this case the heat exchanger wi temper the air for comfort. The reverse appies for the maximum suppy air temperature imit. If the suppy air temperature exits the min-max suppy temperature range, the unit wi adjust ventiation, heating or cooing to compensate. Note: Room temperature contro wi ony be effective if the heater unit is sized correcty for the space. If the unit is undersized, heating from an externa source may be required. THERMAL TRIP In case of software faiure, as a fina resort, the eectric heater is protected by a fai-safe therma overoad switch. This switch disabes the heater controer once the temperature reaches 80 C. When this occurs, the critica aarm wi atch in software. Once the unit coos, the contactor wi re-engage but the heater signa wi remain at 0V unti the critica faut is reset in software or by power cyce. PURGE MODE Once enabed in software, this routine uses an individua time schedue to provide a period of increased air change throughout a space. This mode ony functions if the inet air is above a minimum temperature of 12 C. Whie purge is in progress, the unit wi function in Suppy Temperature Contro Mode but with a different, wider deadband, set by the network input Tricke Deadband. HIBERNATE This mode is avaiabe for LPHW and CW units where the vaves are required to be driven open in anticipation of a period where the unit is eectricay isoated and inactive. When enabed via the network input Hibernate Mode this wi stop the fans and open a LPHW & CW vaves fuy. The unit can then be powered down. This mode activation is reset upon power cyce so when restarted the unit wi function as norma. This mode is for periods when to buiding is eft dormant and wi stop the cois trapping water and causing a freeze risk. ECOSMART CONNECT CONTROL (CO) DESCRIPTION OF CONTROL SOFTWARE STRATEGY FAC CONTROLLER A FAC controer is used to contro the unit. The controer can connect to the FC bus via the 4 pin FC connection. BACNET IP TO MS/TP ROUTER (ESCO-IPN) The BACnet IP to MS/TP Router exchanges information between networks and aows the controer to communicate on an IP network. One router is required for each MS/TP network. MAC Address The physica MAC address of the FAC adjustabe between 4-127 and is set via the DIP switch on the front of the unit. When mutipe controers are connected on the same FC bus, each controer s MAC address must be unique. BACnet Instance Number The BACnet instance number of the FAC is factory-set to a random unique vaue from 0-4,194,304. This ensures that every controer wi have a unique BACnet instance number on any possibe network. End Of Line (EOL) Resistor When an FAC controer is used as a terminator at the end of a FC bus ine, the EOL resistor dip switch can be switched on for best performance. Faut Light Status Bink 5Hz - Not a possibe room modues are connected. This is norma. Bink 2Hz - Startup in progress Off Steady - No Fauts On Steady - No Software The BACnet router has a USB 2.0, Type B receptace which is ony used to obtain power from a computer or USB adapter. A mains adapter and cabe is suppied. The router connects to the FC bus via screwed terminas. Address Type Defaut Address IP Address 192.168.92.68 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 (/24) A reset switch is avaiabe inside a sma hoe ocated on the side of the case. If you press the reset switch with a paper cip (or simiar device) for at east 1 second, the switch resets to the defaut vaues of the IP address, gateway address, and netmask. After you use the reset switch, you need to reboot the router. The BACnet/IP to MS/TP Router contains a Web server. You can access the Web server from any Internet-compatibe computer on the oca network To configure the router, you need a computer with an Ethernet connection, router, and standard Web browser. INTERCONNECTION The FC bus connects via the foowing MSTP cabing: ESCO-MSTPC30M Ecosmart Connect MSTP cabe ree 30m ESCO-MSTPC150M Ecosmart Connect MSTP cabe ree 150m Suggested Wiring Coouring White + Green - Back COM Red Unused Note: On the SA Bus, the + and - wire are one twisted pair, and the COM and SA PWR are the second twisted pair of wires. These cannot be used with RJ12 connections and must be stripped and connected using screwed terminas. The shied must be earthed at the contro pane end ony and be made continuous aong the bus ength. Room Modues must not be fitted more than 150metres (cabe ength) from the controer. (MS/TP) nuaire.co.uk 33

ECOSMART CONNECT CONTROL (CO) DESCRIPTION OF CONTROL SOFTWARE STRATEGY ROOM MODULES Room Modues are eectronic, wa-mountabe sensors designed to work directy with the Nuaire contro pane. Backit LCD Dispay - A LCD dispay versions of Room Modues incude a dia to adjust room setpoint. Whie the setpoint is being adjusted the backight wi switch on and the dispay wi update to show the setpoint. Whie inactive the dispay wi revert to dispay the current room temperature. The occupancy status is aso dispayed on the LCD. On fan speed override modes the fan speed and override status is aso dispayed. A maintenance icon wi dispay if there is a sensor network error. Service Port - A RJ12 service port is provided at the base of each Room Modue. This aows the temporary connection of an extra modue to the sensor network. Fan Speed Override/Room Humidity - This button cyces through fan speed override settings. Room Humidity - The ESC-RM-2-TDH-120 mode incudes a push button on the face of the network sensor to aow occupants to view the temperature and reative humidity of the zone. Pressing the push button togges between temperature and RH on the LCD. The LCD defauts to temperature 5 seconds after the push button is reeased. Foowing this procedure to permanenty change the defaut dispay: Room modues are automaticay detected and require no set-up. The majority of RM modues monitor room temperature; however, options are avaiabe to aso monitor zone humidity, carbon dioxide (CO2), oca temperature setpoint adjustments, PIR, and other variabes. This data is transmitted to a controer on the Sensor Actuator (SA) Bus. FEATURES 1. If the dispay backight is off, press and reease the push button to iuminate the backight. If the dispay backight is aready on, proceed to Step 2. 2. Press and hod the push button for 5 seconds to switch to the desired defaut dispay (either temperature or RH). Note: The desired defaut dispay wi fash for 5 seconds. After the dispay stops fashing, the new defaut dispay is in effect. 3. Reease the push button; the desired dispay is now the new defaut dispay. The humidity setpoint cannot change via RM sensors. This must be changed through a commissioning too. INSTALLATION Location Considerations Locate the network sensor: on a partitioning wa, approximatey 5 ft (1.5 m) above the foor in a ocation of average temperature away from direct sunight, radiant heat, outside was, outside doors, air discharge gris, or stairwes; and from behind doors away from steam or water pipes, warm air stacks, unconditioned areas (not heated or cooed), or sources of eectrica interference To remove the rear cover 1. Use a pozi screwdriver to oosen the screw on the top of the unit. 2. Insert a coin into the sot next to the security screw ocation, pressing the tab that keeps the unit cosed. Then carefuy pry the top edge of the sensor assemby away from its mounting base and remove. Moduar Jack: For the moduar jack, simpy snap the wiring pug into the jack. A moduar jack requires a straight-through, one-to-one connection (not a crossover). See interconnection section for detais. nuaire.co.uk 41

ECOSMART ADAPT CONTROL WITH TREND (AT) DESCRIPTION OF CONTROL SOFTWARE STRATEGY GENERAL The system incorporates a web enabed Trend IQ422/12/LAN/BAC/230 controer. A comprehensive unit contro specification - factory fitted and tested to provide guaranteed operation from a singe suppier. BOOST When the contro receives a boost signa the fans wi run at boost speed. Once the signa is removed the fans wi run on for a time defined by the boost run-on setpoint. TRICKLE MODE When tricke mode is active, the fans wi run at their minimum speed even when there is no enabe signa. Heating and cooing wi aso function in this mode if avaiabe. CO 2 CONTROL When a CO2 sensor is seected via UI4 & 5 function knobs, and an enabe signa is received, ventiation wi increase to reduce CO2 concentration the target CO2 setpoint. The target CO2 sensor setpoint can be changed as one of the commissioning setpoints. SUPPLY TEMPERATURE CONTROL Whie an enabe signa is present, this mode moduates heating, cooing & heat exchanger bypass dampers with the aim of the suppy air reaching the temperature setpoint. Pease note that heating and cooing outputs wi ony function if the HeatingType or CooingType setpoints are set to heating or cooing options. THE NUAIRE UNIT CONTAINS THE FOLLOWING CONTROLLABLE ITEMS: Inet Damper (if fitted). Exhaust Damper (if fitted). Heat Recovery and Bypass Damper. Heating Coi. Cooing Coi. Suppy Fan Speed. Extract Fan Speed. ENABLE SIGNAL The unit can be enabed via the foowing methods: Software switch (ENABLE) via SDU, IQView4, IQView8 or network. Switched ive (230VAC) input, PIR etc. Low votage contacts. Night cooing / summer free-cooing strategy. Schedued via weeky caendar. When the enabe signa is removed, the unit wi run on for a time defined by the run-on setpoint. If an eectric heater is fitted, the fans wi automaticay run-on for an extra 2 minutes, without heating, in order to dissipate residua heat. OCCUPANCY CONTROL When a Trend occupancy sensor is seected via UI4 & 5 software modue, the contro wi ook for a Trend OCC-U sensor in the appropriate input. An occupied signa wi give an enabe signa. 0V = Occupied 14V = Unoccupied FROST PROTECTION Shoud the interna temperature of the unit fa beow a vaue defined in the commissioning variabes, the contro wi override a heating/cooing ogic to open the LPHW or CW contro vaves, if fitted. This is to aow any protective fow through the heating/cooing cois. The suppy fan wi aso stop and the appropriate frost protection software modue wi enter an aarm state. This period wi ast for a minimum of 5 minutes by defaut. The faut reay wi aso open. Heat and coo demand reays wi not operate but digita inputs Frost Protecting LPHW or Frost protecting CW wi enter an aarm state. Pease note that frost protection wi ony function if the HeatingType or CooingType setpoints are set to LPHW or CW. NIGHT COOLING / SUMMER FREE COOLING Once enabed in software, this routine uses an individua time schedue to coo the fabric of the buiding at night using ony the externa air. This mode ony functions if the daytime temperature is above the setpoint, cooing is possibe and if the cooing air is not too cod. ALARMS CRITICAL ALARM (LATCHING) Once in critica aarm state the unit wi drive a heating and cooing outputs to 0V. Other functions continue as norma. The critica aarm is atched and required power cyce to cear. Causes of critica aarm: Fan fai via faut circuit 1. Heater overtemp via faut circuit 1. 54 029 2085 8200 (IP)

ECOSMART ADAPT CONTROL WITH TREND (AT) DESCRIPTION OF CONTROL SOFTWARE STRATEGY MAINTENANCE ALARMS (NON-LATCHING) Once in maintenance aarm state the ony action taken is de-energising of the faut reay. Once the trigger is removed, the aarm wi reset automaticay. Causes of maintenance aarm: Condensate pump faut via aarm circuit 2 (This bypasses the heater exchanger automaticay) Sensor Faiure Low suppy temperature, defaut 8 C. (This can be set to stop fans if required) Frost protection routine active, defaut 4 C (This ony runs if water vaves are seected as fitted) Excessivey high suppy temperature reading (this wi stop heating) A aarms have a hod off period set by the setpoint Aarm Deay. THERMAL TRIP In case of software faiure, as a fina resort, the eectric heater is protected by a fai-safe therma overoad switch. ECOSMART ADAPT CONTROL WITH TREND (AT) DESCRIPTION OF CONTROL ELECTRICAL DETAILS TERMINALS - WIRE CONNECTIONS This contro unit utiises WAGO s CAGE CLAMP S termina bocks, aowing for quick and easy connection. PUSH IN TERMINATION - Stripped soid conductors, fine-stranded conductors with ferrues, or utrasonicay bonded conductors are simpy pushed in unti they hit the backstop. No too required. TERMINATION OF FINE-STRANDED CONDUCTORS - Open the camp by inserting an operating too (as shown beow) unti it cicks into position. Then insert the conductor and remove the operating too to compete the connection. CONDUCTOR REMOVAL - Insert an operating too in to the operating sot to remove the conductor, just ike the origina CAGE CLAMP termina bocks. JUMPERS - Termina bocks can be commoned together to increase the number of terminas at the same potentia using push-in jumpers. In these cases the terminas are treated as one conductor. JUMPER REMOVED - Insert the operating too bade between the jumper and the partition wa of the dua jumper sots, then ift up the jumper. DOUBLE DECK TERMINAL BLOCK - Each deck has a different potentia (2-conductor), which creates a space saving on the rai. Decks can be commoned to adjacent termina bocks and/or the top to the bottom deck. EARTH TERMINAL BLOCKS - The earth termina bock (green/yeow) has a direct eectrica connection to the DIN rai, with the earthing foot (earth connection ony).
