GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS Insecticide Resistance Warning GROUP 1B INSECTICIDE For insecticide resistance management suscon Blue Soil Insecticide is a Group 1B insecticide. Some naturally occurring insect biotypes resistant to suscon Blue Soil Insecticide and other Group 1B insecticides may exist through normal genetic variability in any insect population. The resistant individuals can eventually dominate the insect population if suscon Blue Soil Insecticide or other Group 1B insecticides are used repeatedly. The effectiveness of suscon Blue Soil Insecticide on resistant individuals could be significantly reduced. Since occurrence of resistant individuals is difficult to detect prior to use, Crop Care Australasia Pty Ltd accepts no liability for any losses that may result from the failure of suscon Blue Soil Insecticide to resistant insects. suscon Blue Soil Insecticide may be subject to specific resistance management strategies. For further information contact your local supplier, Crop Care Australasia Pty Ltd representative or local agricultural department agronomist. SOIL ph WARNING The persistence of chlorpyrifos, the active ingredient in suscon Blue, may be significantly reduced around suscon Blue granules in soil, where the ph is above 6.5 (neutral to alkaline). This results from alkaline hydrolysis of the chlorpyrifos, and when this occurs, canegrub may be less than satisfactory during the period for which would normally be expected. Applications of lime or other soil amendments that increase soil ph should not be made at times close to the intended application of suscon Blue. Instead they should be made to the last ratoon of a cropping cycle or before plough out. The use of alkaline irrigation water may also increase soil ph. Application recommendations suscon Blue should be applied directly to the soil through a precision granule applicator. Apply granules in a band 15-20cm wide across the centre of the row by one of the methods listed below. Cover granules with at least 5cm of compacted soil or 10cm of loose soil, immediately after application. DO NOT remove soil or disturb granules in subsequent cultivation. Bring in further covering soil as cane growth allows. Granules should be covered by 15-20cm of compacted soil once the row is finished and hilled up. This placement can be achieved by the following application methods: 1. APPLY AT PLANTING Mix granules with incoming soil behind the planter boards to form a layer 2-3cm deep and 15-20cm wide across the row. Granules may safely touch the sett. 15-20 cm 5 cm 15-20cm Furrow position immediately after application Hill position after row is finished This method is most suitable where there is 20 cm or less soil above the sett in the finished hilled row, and especially where French s, Consobrina (2 yr race), Negatoria or Childers grub are a major local pest. suscon Blue Approved: 6 December 2006 Page 9 of 11

2. APPLY INTO THE FURROW (a) AT FIRST WORKING Apply granules in a band 15-20cm wide across the centre of the furrow, and 2-5cm above the sett, depending on planting depth. 15cm 5cm 2-5cm Furrow position immediately after application 15-20cm Hill position after row is finished ------------------------ This method is most suitable where there will be 17-20cm of soil above the sett in the finished hilled row, especially where greyback and other grubs occur together. (b) AT CUTAWAY OR DRILL FILL-IN Apply granules in a band 15-20cm wide across the centre of the furrow, and between 5-15cm above the sett depending on row depth. 15-20 cm 5 cm 5-15 cm 15-20 cm Furrow position immediately after application Hill position after row is finished ------------------------ suscon Blue Approved: 6 December 2006 Page 10 of 11

This method is recommended where there will be more than 20cm of soil above the sett in the finished hilled row especially where greyback grub is the major pest. PROTECTION OF WILDLIFE, FISH, CRUSTACEANS AND ENVIRONMENT Dangerous to fish and other aquatic invertebrates. DO NOT contaminate streams, rivers or waterways with the chemical or used containers. DO NOT leave granules above ground as they are dangerous to wildlife, particularly birds. STORAGE AND DISPOSAL Store in the closed, original container in a dry, well-ventilated area at 20-30 C out of direct sunlight. DO NOT store for prolonged periods at temperatures below 20 C. Shake the bag/box contents into the applicator until empty. Do not dispose of product on site. Puncture or shred and bury empty containers in a local authority landfill. If no landfill is available, bury the containers below 500 mm in a disposal pit specifically marked and set up for this purpose clear of waterways, desirable vegetation and tree roots. Empty containers and product should not be burnt. SAFETY DIRECTIONS Harmful if swallowed. Will irritate the eyes. Repeated minor exposure may have a cumulative poisoning effect. Obtain an emergency supply of atropine tablets 0.6mg. Avoid contact with eyes. When opening the container and using the product wear cotton overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist (or equivalent clothing), elbow-length PVC gloves, goggles and disposable dust mask. Wash hands after use. After each day s use, wash gloves, goggles and contaminated clothing. FIRST AID If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre. Phone Australia 131126.
