Retail Look and Style What is Retail Look and Style? 1.01

Retail Look and Style What is Retail Look and Style? 1.02 Retail Look and Style is the Initiative to transform the image, appearance and environments of Ford European Dealer Network. It seeks to create a consistent expression of the brand of the retail interface. To provide an attractive and contemporary retailing environment for our customers.

Retail Look and Style Today's retailing environment 1.03 Today s customers have become increasingly demanding and discerning shoppers. Successful retailers have had to respond to much higher expectations and brand awareness in order to continue to compete. The quality and modernity of retail spaces is a vital factor in attracting shoppers. Customers now expect to see consistent and recognisable deployment of brand identity.

Retail Look and Style Today's retailing environment 1.04

Retail Look and Style Automotive sector 1.05 Automotive retailing has traditionally been associated with distributing ( dealerships ) rather than retailing. Even today, general customer perception of automotive retailing is still of outdated unfriendly, low quality environments, not akin to other purchasing experiences.

Retail Look and Style Automotive sector 1.06 The Automotive sector is recognising the need to act. Many competitors have already embarked on dealership transformation programmes, with a clear emphasis on a confident primary brand.

Retail Look and Style Where does Ford want to be? 1.07 Confident and consistent visual appearance, reflecting key brand values. Greater focus on primary brand. Modern, attractive retailing environment, which is well lit and finished with contemporary materials. Huge visual signal to customers that the Ford brand is going places.

Retail Look and Style How do we get there? 1.08 Transformation will be achieved via the Retail Look & Style Programme. Two main elements - new Signage Programme and Facilities Programme. Full details are outlined in the Retail Look & Style manuals, (See www.lookandstyle.ford.com)

Retail Look and Style Facilities Programme 1.09 The Retail Look and Style Facilities programme details a set of minimum standards, that all dealers must plan to achieve. Focused on lighting, flooring, colour palette and furniture in the key customer areas. Taken together, implementation of these minimum standards achieve a dramatic transformation at comparatively modest cost.

Retail Look and Style Facilities Programme - Typical Showroom Interior 1.10

Retail Look and Style Colour Palette 2.01 The Retail Look and Style Colour Palette is focused on silver, grey and white. It proves cost effective as normally involves just re-decoration / painting. And produces a disproportionately high impact providing the backdrop for the other elements.

Retail Look and Style Customer Facing Furniture 2.02 A variety of desking, seating and countering solutions for differing dealership configurations. The design intent features the use of light beech, silver, grey and black colours. May be sourced locally so long as the design intent is adhered to. For more details see the Retail Look & Style manuals.

Retail Look and Style Flooring 3.01 The Retail Look & Style programme incorporates two types of flooring - light grey porcelain tiles and light beech wooden floor planks (or Amtico Alternative). The Colour Palette has been carefully selected to compliment the overall image and generate a contemporary and modern feel in line with the Ford brand definition. All selected materials are fully fit for purpose, complying with the anti slip requirements, and are warranted to resist damage from typical substances of automotive retailing (e.g. oil, brake fluid and tyre photography). However, it is strongly advised that an effective matwell system is installed at the main entrance to prevent abrasive materials and dirt being brought in on shoes.

Retail Look and Style Flooring 3.02 Showroom Rectangular 600 x 300mm light grey porcelain tiles. Satin finished, giving the sheen and light bounce of fully polished tiles, but at a much reduced cost. Cafe/Customer Centre Light beech bonded flooring system (or Amtico eqivalent). Provides contemporary and stylish appearance, unifying the customer centre, disticting it from the display space and complimenting the furniture recommendations. Suitable for purpose, offering excellent serviceability and stability. Service Advice Centre Light grey porcelain tiles, 300 x 300mm. Similar to showroom, but matt finished to improve the anti slip property in this drive in area. Visually unifies the service advice bay with the showroom soace, which ought to be immediately adjacent.

Retail Look and Style Why is lighting so important? 4.01 Quality lighting is one of the most important factors in creating an attractive and effective retailing environment. Retail Look & Style lighting systems have been tested over a protracted period and exposed to customer clinics. They apply to the key customer areas of Showroom, Cafe / Customer Centre and Service Advice Centre. The light units are of sharp, contemporary design, reinforcing the Ford brand values. They represent a sensible balance between aesthetics, performance and cost.

Retail Look and Style Lighting - Why Change? 4.02 Typical existing lighting Historically, Dealership showrooms have been fitted with inexpensive blanket lighting, more usually seen these days in offices and warehouses. They usually comprise of fluorescent strips recessed into a ceiling grid. The draw backs of such lighting systems are: Poor illumination (typically 500 lux) for product display. Inflexible (cannot be adjusted to create highlighted zones). Poor colour stability from around half way through lamp life, altering the appearance of products on display. Old technology which is now comparatively expensive to run (lamps expire sooner and use more electricity).

Retail Look and Style Lighting - Showroom* 4.03 Artemide* RA lighting range - fully integrated rectangular unit (2.4 m x 0.6 m), which can be fitted into a standard ceiling gird or suspended. RA unit incorporates 4 lights - 2 x 150w floodlights for general illumination and 2 x 150 w spot lights for accent lighting. Benefits of RA system: Flexibility: Lights can be adjusted to achieve optimum impact. RA includes 2 full length lighting tracks on to which additional spots can be fixed if necessary - Lighting quality: clear, stable light up to 700-800 lux. - Latest technology: using ceramic lamps, which last longer than fluorescents (10000 hours versus 8000 hours) and are considerably more powerful (80 lumens per watt versus 45 lumens). - Need less lights: to achieve 700-800 lux with fluorescents would require 250% more lights. - Running cost: Although ceramic bulbs are more expensive than fluorescents, total running costs for a 700-800 lux level would typically cost half as much by using the Retail Look & Style system. *Artemide are the baseline recommended supplier. Other approved alternatives may be available (see Retail Look and Style Facilities manual).

Retail Look and Style Lighting - Cafe/Customer Centre* Service Advice Centre* 4.04 Cafe/Customer Centre Artemide* MIKADO lighting range. 50 w low voltage, dichroic units, either suspended on adjustable metal rods (maximum 3.5 m) or face fixed to a ceiling or soffit. Provide cool, discreet illumination and are very eye catching, which distincts the area from the display space. Service Advice Centre Artemide* ALAIN (for suspended ceiling) or ELIO (for open ceiling) lighting range. 150 w floodlights designed to provide the same level and quality of illumination as in the showroom. Assisting in the objective of ensuring that this key customer space feels and looks like and extension of the showroom, rather than part of the workshop. *Artemide are the baseline recommended supplier. Other approved alternatives may be available (see Retail Look and Style Facilities manual).
