Let s Colour Project Colour Guide Guide for local projects Welcome to the Dulux Let s Colour Project... If you have been successful in your nomination, now comes the fun part of choosing what colours to use and how to best use them. Firstly, we d like to thank you for taking part in the Dulux Let s Colour Project. At Dulux we believe in the power of colour and are committed to making a positive difference to peoples lives. With your help, through the Let s Colour Project we re transforming grey spaces throughout the UK with colour. This Colour Guide has been prepared to help you choose your colour scheme. Remember, the power of colour is that it not only rejuvenates a space; it can also change how people interact with, and feel about that space. So have fun with the colours and designs you use. Colour scheming is all about selecting the colours that work well together.
Creating Your Colour Scheme Colours will be from our retail colour schemes and will be made available in our Dulux Trade ready mixed paint. Colours are generally seen in the context of other colours, which means that how you combine them is important. The colours you choose should work together so they achieve your ambition of brightening your community. They should also complement any existing colours that surround the space. Blues Violets Greens Reds Yellows Oranges By using the colour wheel, you can see how colours work together and produce co-ordinating schemes for your project. Toning Toning creates a subtle, understated look by using varying shades of the same colour. This can be viewed easily by using colours from the same Dulux stripe card. Contrasting By using the colour opposite the main colour on our colour wheel you ll achieve a striking, more dramatic result. This is ideal for lifting dull spaces and making them stand out. Harmonising By using colours adjacent to each other on the wheel, you can create a balanced scheme that is both relaxing and subtle.
Creating Exterior Colour Schemes For exterior colour scheming you can follow these easy steps: 1 Always examine exterior colour cards in exterior daylight as colour chips can often look lighter outside than the inside. Rich colours tend to be quite strong, and can be used to create a sense of fun and drama in a space. 3 Bear in mind the existing colours of the space that you cannot change i.e. colour of your roof, slates, brick work and wood cladding as this will dictate what colours you can choose. 2 Start by focusing on 4 areas wall, trim, plinth and front door. 4 Try to maintain a sense of colour balance between the space, the landscape and the neighbourhood. You can pick up a colour card from your local Dulux Stockist or by visiting www.dulux.co.uk.
