CORALAIS BODYSPA BATH AND SHOWER FAUCET 1. BEFORE YOU BEGIN HOW TO USE THESE INSTRUCTIONS Please read these instructions carefully to familiarize yourself with the required tools, materials, and installation sequences. Follow the sections that pertain to your particular installation. This will help you avoid costly mistakes. In addition to proper installation, read all operating and safety instructions. All information in these instructions is based on the latest product information available at the time of publication. Kohler Co. reserves the right to make changes in product characteristics, packaging, or availability at any time without notice. NOTES This instruction provides installation information for two faucet models. Be sure to follow only the steps that apply to your installation. The K-1097 uses two valves, one for the bath fill, and another for the shower. Pay special attention to this feature when planning your site preparation. Avoid excessive heat if you solder connections, to prevent damage to the fitting. Flush all piping thoroughly before installing the valve. Observe all local plumbing codes. Do not force the handle(s) in any direction. To turn the valve off, gently turn to the Off position. For the K-1097, do not use any plastic pipe between the Rite-Temp valve and spout. Do not connect a deck-mount spout, diverter, or hand shower to the spout outlet, unless you cap the shower outlet on valve. Install pipe or tube in a straight drop of 7 to 18 with only one elbow between the valve and the wall-mounted spout. Other types of installations may cause unsatisfactory shower performance. CAUTION: Risk of product damage. Remove the aspirator, plaster guards, and valve units before you apply heat to the yoke. IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS READ AND SAVE FOR THE CONSUMER WARNING: Risk of scalding or other severe injury. Before completing installation, the installer must set the maximum water temperature setting of this valve to minimize the risks associated with scalding hazards according to ASTM F 444. Do not install a shut-off device on either outlet of this valve. The installation of any such device may create a cross-flow condition at the valve and affect the water temperature. Factors that change the temperature of the water supplied to the valve, such as seasonal water temperature changes, and water heater replacement or servicing, will change the maximum water temperature supplied by the valve and may create a scalding hazard. The pressure-balanced valve will not compensate for changes in the water supply temperature; adjust the maximum water temperature setting of this pressure-balanced valve when such changes occur. Pressure-balanced valves may not provide protection against scalding if there is a failure of other temperature-limiting devices elsewhere in the plumbing system. The installer is responsible for installing the valve and adjusting the maximum water temperature of this pressure-balanced valve according to instructions. This valve meets or exceeds ANSI A112.18.1M and ASSE 1016. If you do not understand any of the installation or temperature adjustment instructions in this document, in the United States please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-4-KOHLER. Outside the U.S. please contact your distributor. IMPORTANT: Please fill in the blanks below and on the valve label. Then insert these instructions into the plastic bag included with the valve package, and attach the plastic bag to the valve handle for the owner s reference. This device has been preset by of to ensure a safe maximum temperature. Any change in the setting may raise the discharge temperature above the limit considered safe, and lead to scalds. Date: 2
2. SITE PREPARATION ROUGH-IN PLUMBING Turn off the water supplies. Install or relocate the supplies as necessary to conform to the roughing-in dimensions. NOTE: If the bath or foot bath has already been installed, be sure to cover it to prevent damage before you proceed. Inspect the waste and supply tubing for damage. Replace if necessary. Rotate the valve stem fully clockwise. Valve Body Stop Valve Stem Mud Guard If the valve has stops, rotate both stop adjustments fully counterclockwise. Plaster Guard Fig. #4 Proceed to Fig. #5. 5. INSTALLATION INSTALL 2-HANDLE YOKE ALL MODELS The yoke has a two-sided pipe adapter that can be reversed for use with either 1/2 N.P.T. pipe or copper tubing. Connect the hot and cold supplies to the yoke so they are between 2 and 3-1/2 from the finish wall. Ceiling Supplies Aspirator Cold The faucet fitting is factory assembled specifically for hot and cold water supplies from the floor. If installing the faucet for ceiling supplies, turn the yoke over so the supplies connect from the top. Hot For the K-1098, reinstall the aspirator at the top of the yoke. Do not overtighten. For the K-1097, discard the aspirator. D-shape Up Reinstall the valve units with the colored dot valve on the left side (right side for ceiling supplies). Reinstall the plaster guards. For K-1096 model, proceed to Fig. #6. For K-1097 model, proceed to Fig. #7. D-shape Down Fig. #5 INSTALL 2-HANDLE YOKE K-1096 MODEL Install elbows and adapters (if used) onto 1/2 copper tubing or 1/2 pipe of proper length. Connect the piping to both the shower and bath yoke outlets. IMPORTANT! Secure the tubing to the framing. Install temporary 1/2 nipples into the bath and shower ells. The temporary nipple used for slip-fit spout installations must extend at least 6 beyond the finish wall. Turn on the water supplies. Open both the hot and cold valves for about one minute to flush debris from the water lines. Complete the finish wall, and discard the plaster guards. Proceed to Fig. #12 or Fig. #13. Reattach the cap assembly with two screws. Cold Supply Screw 180 Fig. #10 Tab 5
INSTALLATION CHECKOUT ALL MODELS Install caps on the temporary bath and shower nipples. Turn on the hot and cold water supplies, and check the new installation for leaks. Remove the caps from the temporary nipples. Turn the valve control to the On position, and cycle the control through the operating range. Check for leaks. Turn the valve control off. If the valve has stops, rotate both stop adjustments fully clockwise. Turn the valve control On, and note that water does not flow. Turn the valve control Off, and rotate both stop adjustments fully counterclockwise. INSTALL PLASTER GUARD K-1097 MODEL Thick Wall Installation (Tile, Plaster, Marble, etc.): Cut a 5-9/16 diameter hole in the rough wall material. Identify the plaster guard side that must face out for thick wall installation. Install the plaster guard and mud guard over the cap assembly, and secure them to the valve body with screws. NOTE: The finish wall must line up within the front-to-back depth of the installed plaster guard. The plaster guard may be removed after the wall is completed. Remove and discard the mud guard. Thin Wall Installation: Cut a 4 diameter hole in the wall material. Identify the plaster guard side that must face out for thin wall installation. Install the plaster guard and mud guard over the cap assembly, and secure them to the valve body with screws. There are two small detents within the outer ring to provide three operating positions. Fig. #15 6. ADJUSTMENTS K-1097 MAXIMUM WATER TEMPERATURE ADJUSTMENT If the handle and face plate are installed, remove them. Turn on the water to the maximum temperature by rotating the valve stem fully clockwise. To adjust the maximum temperature, slide the O-ring out of the groove, and part way up the valve stem. Move the upper limit stop part way up the valve stem. Rotate the valve stem until the desired maximum water temperature is achieved. Rotate the lower limit stop until it contacts the tab. Slide the upper limit stop down the valve stem to engage the lower limit stop. Slide the O-ring into the valve stem groove. Rotate the valve stem counterclockwise to shut the water off. Reinstall the handle and face plate. 7.
