When starting the fire control panel ensure that unstable conditions cannot arise. Ensure that all points listed in the 'Testing the product operability' section below are observed. You may only set controls to normal function when the product operability has been completely tested and the system has been handed over to the customer. 11

2 Safety Safety regulations for the method of operation Testing the product operability Prevent the remote transmission from triggering erroneously. If testing building installations or activating devices from third-party companies, you must collaborate with the people appointed. The activation of fire control installations for test purposes must not cause injury to anyone or damage to the building installations. The following instructions must be observed: Use the correct potential for activation; this is generally the potential of the building installation. Only check controls up to the interface (relay with blocking option). Make sure that only the controls to be tested are activated. Inform people before testing the alarm devices and allow for possible panic responses. Inform people about any noise or mist which may be produced. Before testing the remote transmission, inform the corresponding alarm and fault signal receiving stations. Modifications to the system design and the products Modifications to the system and to individual products may lead to faults, malfunctioning and safety risks. Written confirmation must be obtained from Siemens and the corresponding safety bodies for modifications or additions. Modules and spare parts Components and spare parts must comply with the technical specifications defined by Siemens. Only use products specified or recommended by Siemens. Only use fuses with the specified fuse characteristics. Wrong battery types and improper battery changing lead to a risk of explosion. Only use the same battery type or an equivalent battery type recommended by Siemens. Batteries must be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner. Observe national guidelines and regulations. Disregard of the safety regulations Before they are delivered, Siemens products are tested to ensure they function correctly when used properly. 4 Planning Installation site requirements 4.2 Installation site requirements The air sampling smoke detection kit is intended for use in buildings only. To achieve reliable smoke monitoring, the air sampling smoke detection kit is installed after the last air inlet point. Ambient conditions Ambient temperature: -20...+50 C Air humidity: 95 % rel. No condensate formation outside the ventilation system Ventilation system Air speed inside the ventilation duct: 1 20 m/s Diameter of the ventilation duct Round ventilation duct: 100 2600 mm Insulated ventilation duct: 100 2600 mm Rectangular ventilation duct: max. 2700 mm Air usually without dust and aerosols Distance from sources of interference The air sampling smoke detection kit is installed in the same location within a ventilation system in which air flow measuring instruments would normally be installed. These are areas in which no air vortexes or sources of interference such as changes of direction, branchings, constrictions or enlargements of the ventilation duct occur. The minimum distance required between the air sampling smoke detection kit and sources of interference depends on the hydraulic diameter (dh). The hydraulic diameter is calculated according to the following formula: Round ventilation duct d = D h Rectangular ventilation duct d = h 2 x H x B H + B H B 24

Planning Installation variants 4 The minimum distances listed in the table below apply to the distance between the air flow tube and the source of interference. Source of interference After a bend or branching Before a bend or branching After an air inlet point Before an air outlet point Before a fan After a fan Before an exhaust air system After a fresh air system Minimum distance 5 x dh 3 x dh 5 x dh 3 x dh 3 x dh 5 x dh 3 x dh 5 x dh 4.3 Installation variants The mounting method and the accessories required for mounting depend on the ventilation duct design. The diameter of the ventilation duct determines whether the air flow tube only protrudes into the ventilation duct (see figure on the left) or whether it penetrates through the ventilation duct (see figure on the right). 600 mm 600...2700 mm Mounting variant depending on the diameter of the ventilation duct 25

4 Planning Installation variants With round or insulated ventilation ducts, the air sampling smoke detection kit is not installed directly on the ventilation duct but on the mounting bracket FDBZ290-AD (1). Planning Length of the air flow tube 4 4.4 Length of the air flow tube The length of the air flow tube depends on the diameter of the ventilation duct. The calculation of the length of the air flow tube depends on whether the diameter of the ventilation duct is smaller or greater than 600 mm. Diameter of the ventilation duct 600 mm The air flow tube must penetrate at least 90 % of the diameter of the ventilation duct. Diameter of the ventilation duct >600 mm The air flow tube must penetrate through the entire ventilation duct and may protrude beyond the wall of the ventilation duct by a maximum of 30 mm. If the air sampling smoke detection kit is installed using the mounting bracket FDBZ290-AD, the distance of the mounting bracket from the wall of the ventilation duct must be taken into account when calculating the length of the air flow tube. The greatest possible diameter of the ventilation duct is reduced by approx. 100 mm. 27

5 Mounting and installation Preparation 5 Mounting and installation Prerequisites The installation locations for the air sampling smoke detection kit are defined according to the planning information. You will find more information in chapter 'Installation site requirements [ 24]'. The supply network is produced, connected and checked in line with the country-specific installation guidelines. Installation should be performed by a specialist in compliance with safety regulations. Sequence NOTICE Impaired functionality of the air sampling smoke detection kit due to a leak in the air duct sampling chamber. A leak in the air duct sampling chamber causes an impairment of the functionality of the air sampling smoke detection kit because the air samples taken are adulterated by the escaping of air from the ventilation duct or the inflow of ambient air. Do not drill any holes through the air duct sampling chamber. Install the detector base using the screws supplied or PT40 x 10 screws. 1.
