September 28, 2017 Wentworth Avenue (CR 8) Sidewalk Improvements Open House The City of South St. Paul and Dakota County are proposing the construction of a sidewalk in 2019-2020 on the south side of Wentworth Avenue (CR 8) between 15th Avenue North and US 52 (Lafayette Freeway). The project will improve the pedestrian experience and provide important connections to the neighborhoods, local schools, and area parks. Project Purpose, History, and Goals Project purpose: Improve the pedestrian experience and provide important connections to area neighborhoods, local schools, and parks Project History Metropolitan Council regional solicitation application submitted in July 2016 1 City was notified that the project was selected for 2 Surface Transportation Eliminate a high priority gap in the non-motorized transportation system Facilitate access to nearby transit facilities and destinations 3 Invest in multimodal transportation facilities to promote attractiveness of biking and walking funding in January 2017 North and south sides of Wentworth were evaluated for sidewalk construction South side was chosen due to greater available right-of-way, flatter terrain, and lower construction cost

Project Funding and Easement Acquisition Project Funding Combination of City, County, and Federal Funds No assessments to private property owners are proposed* Easement Acquisition Temporary easements may be needed for construction of the sidewalk Typical wall section Retaining wall construction within City right-of-way may be necessary, depending on further design review and discussion Fall protection will be provided on top of new retaining walls Private landscaping impacted by construction will be replaced at the limits of disturbance Tree s removed will be eligible for the City s tree replacement program *Property owners will be responsible for maintenance of the sidewalk following construction including clearing the sidewalk of snow in the winter Example landscape area along project
