WRS-TTx Series Wireless Room Temperature Sensors Installation Instructions WRS-TTP0000-0, WRS-TTR0000-0, WRS-TTS0000-0 WRS-TTP0000-1, WRS-TTR0000-1, WRS-TTS0000-1 4Issued February 20162-10126-19,Rev.HPart No. 24-10126-19, Rev. H Application The WRS-TTx Series Wireless Room Temperature Sensors are designed to sense room/zone temperature and transmit wireless temperature control data to TE-7800 Series and WRS-RTN Series Receivers. Depending on the sensor model, the WRS-TTx Series Sensors can transmit sensed temperature, setpoint temperature, occupancy status, and low battery conditions to an associated receiver. The associated receiver passes the temperature data on to a supervisory controller or a field controller. Note: WRS-TTx0000-1 Series Sensors (CE Mark compliant models) have a reduced transmission power (10 dbm) and transmission range to comply with the requirements of select countries. The WRS-TTx Series Sensors are designed for two types of room/zone temperature sensing systems: The One-to-One temperature sensing system provides temperature data for single-zone temperature control based on a sensor reporting to a single TE-7800 Series Receiver. The One-to-One system provides temperature data to Johnson Controls VMA14, AS-AHU, AS-UNT, AS-VAV, DX-9100, and FXxx Series Field Controllers. Refer to the TE-7800 Series One-to-One Wireless Room Temperature Sensing System Technical Bulletin (LIT-12011097) for more information. The Many-to-One temperature sensing system provides temperature data for multi-zone control and allows multiple WRS-TTx Series Sensors to report to a single WRS-RTN Series Receiver. Up to 60 sensors can be associated with a single receiver. The practical average due to typical application environments is 10 to 20 sensors per receiver. The WRS-RTN Series Receiver works in conjunction with a Metasys system Network Automation Engine (NAE) or Network Control Engine (NCE) to distribute temperature data to the multiple field controllers on the Metasys network. Refer to the WRS Series Many-to-One Wireless Room Temperature Sensing System Technical Bulletin (LIT-12011095) for more information. Refer to the QuickLIT website for the most up-to-date version of this document. The WRS-TTx Series Sensors use direct-sequence, spread-spectrum Radio Frequency (RF) technology and operate on the 2.4 GHz ISM band. The sensor meets the IEEE 802.15.4 standard for low power, low duty cycle RF transmitting systems. The WRS-TTx Series Sensors operate as transceivers to create a bidirectional association with the target receiver, which allows the temperature sensing system to confirm and synchronize data transmissions between the sensors and the receiver. The WRS-TTx Series Sensors are designed for indoor, intra-building applications only. IMPORTANT: The WRS-TTx Series Wireless Room Temperature Sensor is intended to provide an input to equipment under normal operating conditions. Where failure or malfunction of the sensor could lead to personal injury or property damage to the controlled equipment or other property, additional precautions must be designed into the control system. Incorporate and maintain other devices, such as supervisory or alarm systems or safety or limit controls, intended to warn of or protect against failure or malfunction of the sensor. IMPORTANT: The WRS-TTx Series Sensors are not designed or intended for use in mission-critical or life/safety applications. Location Considerations A successful wireless temperature sensing system requires proper location of the sensors and receivers. For information on locating and installing the TE-7800 Series Receivers in One-to-One applications, refer to the TE-7800 Series Receiver for One-to-One Wireless Room Temperature Sensing Systems Installation Instructions (Part No. 24-10139-8). FIG:dmnsns For information on installing the WRS-RTN Series Receivers in Many-to-One applications, refer to the WRS-RTN Series Receivers for Many-to-One Wireless Room Temperature Sensing Systems Installation Instructions (Part No. 24-10126-0). Note: For detailed information on estimating the number of WRS-RTN Series Receivers needed for a Many-to-One application and locating the receivers for optimum signal coverage, refer to the WRS Series Many-to-One Wireless Room Temperature Sensing System Technical Bulletin (LIT-12011095). Temperature Sensor Location Considerations When locating a WRS-TTx Series Sensor, follow the same best practices used to locate a hardwired temperature control, sensor, or thermostat: Mount the sensor on an interior wall where it is easily accessible, at least 54 in. (137 cm) above the floor, in an area where the temperature is representative of the entire controlled space. Avoid enclosed or recessed locations and locations behind curtains, doors, or other obstructions to the controlled space. Avoid locations near entry foyers, doors, windows, supply air ducts, and pipes. Avoid locations that are exposed to drafts, direct sunlight, and other sources of heat or cooling. Wireless Sensor Location Considerations In addition to the typical thermostat and temperature control location considerations, follow these guidelines for locating a sensor in wireless applications: Locate the sensor on the same building level as the receiver whenever possible. (Wireless transmissions may pass through floors. Test the signal strength before installing sensors and the associated receiver on different building levels.) Wherever possible, locate the sensor in the direct line-of-sight to the receiver. Avoid metal obstructions (including equipment rooms and elevator shafts) and concrete or brick walls between the receiver and the sensor. Do not locate the sensor in recessed areas or metal enclosures. Do not mount a sensor less than 2 ft (61 cm) from the receiver. 3

Wireless RF Signal Transmission Considerations The specified maximum transmission range for indoor line-of-sight transmissions between a WRS-TTx0000-0 Series Sensor and an associated receiver is 500 ft (152 m). Taking into consideration RF signal absorption and reflection due to metal obstructions, walls, and furniture found in typical building interiors, the practical average indoor (line-of-sight) transmission range between a sensor and receiver is 200 ft (61 m). The specified maximum transmission range for indoor line-of-sight transmissions between a WRS-TTx0000-1 Series Sensor and an associated receiver is 375 ft (114 m). Taking into consideration RF signal absorption and reflection due to metal obstructions, walls, and furniture found in typical building interiors, the practical average indoor (line-of-sight) transmission range between a sensor and receiver is 165 ft (50 m). Pressing and holding the manual occupancy override button on the WRS-TTx Series Sensor (Figure 1) initiates a signal strength test with the associated receiver. Refer to the TE-7800 Series One-to-One Wireless Room Temperature Sensing System Technical Bulletin (LIT-12011097) or the WRS Series Many-to-One Wireless Room Temperature Sensing System Technical Bulletin (LIT-12011095) for more information on performing signal strength tests in your application. You can also use the WRS-SST Series Wireless Sensing System Tool to determine the signal strength between the sensor and receiver locations. Refer to the WRS-SST Series Wireless Sensing System Tools Technical Bulletin (Part No. 24-10139-16) for more information on testing signal strength in your application.
