His particular areas of expertise include the design and upgrades of large pumping and hydraulic systems. Len has extensive experience in root cause analysis of mechanical equipment, including component failure investigations. His wide engineering experience includes expert witness report investigations, on-site problem solving for operational reliability issues and on-site project management of major fabrication, construction and commissioning works. John Parker BE (Mech) MIE Aust Neil Collins BE Eng, MEngSc, PIANC, NPER-3, RPEQ John is a senior engineer at BMT WBM with over 40years Neil has over 33 years experience in engineering and is an acknowledged experience. John has detailed knowledge related to the design, operations and maintenance of large mobile plant used in the mining industry. John s independent expert witness experience includes a project for the operator of a failed motor shaft which was originally driving a large (2500 HP) machine. The project involved a detailed technical analysis, load measurement and detailed technical report for submission to an independent expert for mediation. He also acted as expert witness for the designer of a large trenching machine which has operated in Western Australia. The project involved detailed analysis of the bucket wheel, conveyor and support systems, and preparation of a detailed report for the designers legal firm for use in a pending court action. expert in flooding, stormwater and coastal processes. Neil was also the independent hydraulic expert to the Queensland Government for the North Bank Project. He has worked on major infrastructure projects as a Hydraulic Specialist including Sydney Third Runway, Sydney Harbour Tunnel, Gateway Bridge and Arterial and several coal ports in Queensland and in Indonesia, Power Stations in Queensland and Thailand, hydro-electric schemes in PNG and port dredging management at Cairns, Townsville, Weipa and Mackay. He has been involved in the water industry, in Australia and internationally, for over 5 years and has specialist skills in hydrology and hydraulics, with a focus on flood modelling (fluvial and coastal), hydrology, and assessment of flood mitigation options. Recently he has been involved in providing the technical input into the Queensland Government s Policy on the assessment of increased flood risk due to climate change.
