Sustainability Update: Understanding LEED MR Credit 3, Option 2 LEED MR Credit 3, Option 2 is earned if at least 25% of products, by cost, meet any combination of its criteria. Three criteria are applicable to resilient flooring: (1) products made by a manufacturer with an extended producer responsibility program (products calculated at 50% cost); (2) products containing recycled content, valued at 100% for post-consumer content and 50% for pre-consumer content (product value is cost times percentage of recycled content); and (3) products containing bio-based material (valued at 100%). Products manufactured within 100 miles of the project site are given double value for the purposes of this option. The compliance options are summarized in the following table: MR Credit 3, Option 2 Compliance Options Manufacturer has an extended producer responsibility program for the product Post-consumer recycled content Product Value 50% of product cost Product cost X % of recycled content Pre-consumer recycled content Bio-based raw materials meeting the Sustainable Agriculture Network s Sustainable Agriculture Standard Wood products certified by Forest Stewardship Council Reused, salvaged, or refurbished 50% of product cost X % of recycled content Product cost Product cost Product cost
Johnsonite Introduces Eight New SLT Profiles Johnsonite is pleased to announce the addition of eight new profiles to our industry-leading offering of Metallic Accessories. Due to the popularity of stained & polished concrete, we have added four new Slim Line Metallic Transitions that go to zero (subfloor). They are: CCC-XX-A, CCC-XX-C, SCC-XX-A and SCC- XX-B. Slim Line Metallic Transitions (Transition to zero subfloor) In addition to the four new Slim Line Transitions, we have now made four of our most popular cove caps available in metallic colors. They are: SLT-XX-J, SLTC- XX-J, SLT-XX-L and SLTC-XX-L. The versatility of the Slim Line Transitions is nearly endless. Available in both straight and contour configurations, Slim Line Transitions allow designers to create a custom design. The straight transitions take care of the most common needs. The bendability of the contour transitions, allows designers to be very creative in creating curved transitions which gives their masterpiece a final touch. The slim profiles make possible a subtle visual transition, a sharp contrast feature strip or whatever look is preferred. Slim Line Transitions (Cove caps in metallic colors) The new to zero slim line transitions in metallic colors are a great alternative to the hard, cold, aluminum transitions so commonly used. Now you can also have cove caps with the luxurious look of metal, but still have the flexibility and ease of installation that comes with resilient cove caps. The updated Slim Line Metallics chain sets are now available from the Sample Department. Order Information: Item# 095100-1119 Slim Line Metallic Chain Set
GPO Membership Roster Lists As of early 2013, Tarkett signed contracts with three of the largest Healthcare Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs): Premier Inc., MedAssets and HealthTrust. We have established an internal database for the Tarkett Field Team that combines all three GPOs member rosters to streamline the ability to see if a customer is a member of a GPO. It is important that all Healthcare orders are double-checked on our combined GPO roster database to ensure they are being reported and recorded as a GPO sale. The Field Team is able to utilize this database to create specific lists by state/city to provide to Distributors. There will be additional database/roster training in the future to clarify any questions users may have regarding this tool. For more information on our GPO program, please contact Healthcare Segment Specialist, Nicole Sweet, or Director Healthcare Development, Cyndie Hubbell. Case Study: St. Luke s School in Cleveland, Ohio Originally built in 1926, this building housed a large hospital that provided patient and surgical care as well as a nursing college that operated until 1999. After a long period of neglect, a campaign was initiated to save, restore and develop the hospital into a unique example of adaptive re-use programming. An architect out of Philadelphia converted the former patient wings into affordable senior housing units. An integrated team from Westlake Reed Leskosky, which transformed the wing into an intergenerational charter school, designed the final 85,000 square foot phase of this three-phase project. Tenants from the senior housing provide tutoring and mentorship to the students who in return provide companionship. The team at Westlake Reed Leskosky was tasked with finding flooring that would help maintain the historic character and detailing that made St. Luke s a unique place yet also be able to withstand the foot traffic that a school brings. This project, explained Mykie Hrusovski, Project Designer, Westlake Reed Leskosky, is an adaptive re-use project. Grand lobbies and corridors that were appointed in marble and decorative plasterwork have all been faithfully restored and highlighted. So the team turned to Johnsonite, who in turn donated 2,400 square feet of the new Arcade Rubber sheet flooring for use in specialized areas, including art, science and home economics classrooms. The 2 mm gauge flooring delivers the best flooring solution possible where durability, maintenance and aesthetics are required. While providing underfoot comfort plus noise and impact absorption, Arcade rubber sheet flooring is also naturally slip-resistant and shock absorbent. Johnsonite donated 2,400 square feet of the new Arcade Rubber sheet flooring for use in special areas, such as this science lab.
Case Study: St. Luke s School in Cleveland, Ohio (Continued) The project is seeking LEED Silver certification and according to Hrusovski, this project re-uses every square inch of existing building, which negates the need for developing on new lands or negatively impacting the surrounding neighborhood. It also utilizes carefully selected materials, is filled with an abundance of natural light and fresh air via operable windows. The use of Johnsonite products will help attain credit for Local Regional Materials, Low Emitting Materials and Minimizing Pollutants points. The team at Westlake Reed Leskosky is familiar with Johnsonite products, having used them on many projects in the past. We use Johnsonite regularly because of its value, durability, commitment to sustainability and the myriad of color and patterns available to designers. The project is scheduled to be complete in June 2014.
