Section K CHLORINATION EQUIPMENT PART 1 GENERAL 1.01 SECTION INCLUDES A. Furnish and install chlorination equipment and appurtenances necessary to complete work shown or specified. The equipment is to be supplied by a single engineer-approved, equipment supplier. The chlorine booster building will include the following equipment items with the required presubmittal 10 days before the bid. 1.02 REFERENCES A. The following references apply: 1. Water Environment Federation (WEF). 1.03 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION A. Provide a complete vacuum operated, solution feed, two (2) 25 pounds per day (PPD) dual manually controlled chlorine gas feeder system with automatic switchover, safety equipment and accessories as shown on the contract drawings. 1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. The equipment and material to be furnished under this Contract shall be free from defects. The complete gas feed system shall be by one K-1
manufacturer having complete system responsibility for the operation of the system. B. The gas feed equipment shall be manufactured and tested under ISO certification meeting the following standards: ISO9001-1994, EN ISO9001-1994, ANSI/ASQC9001-1994. C. All electrical devices shall be provided with an EC declaration of conformity relating to electromagnetic compatibility where required. D. All electrical devices shall have CSA certification where required. E. All equipment, piping and accessories shall meet Chlorine Institute recommendations. 1.05 WARRANTY REQUIREMENTS A. All equipment, unless otherwise stated, shall be warranted by the manufacturer for 12 months from date of start-up not to exceed 18 months from date of shipment. 1.06 SYSTEM START-UP A. The chlorination equipment manufacturer shall furnish the services of a qualified field engineer to check installation, start-up and instruct operating personnel in the proper operation and maintenance of the equipment. One trip for start up and training shall be provided. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 EQUIPMENT A. Provide the following: 1. One (2) Vacuum regulators. 2. Two (2) Flowmeter panels. 3. Two (2) Ejector/check valve assemblies. 4. Two (2) Diffuser, corp cock type. 5. One (1) Scale, cylinder. 6. One (1) Gas detector with battery back-up. 7. One (1) Cabinet and gas canister mask 2.02 GAS FEEDER/VACUUM REGULATOR K-2
A. The gas feeder shall be designed to insure maximum safety of operating personnel. The gas control system shall operate under vacuum to prevent gas leakage. The gas feeder shall be designed for simplicity of installation and maintenance and shall provide complete flexibility for applications requiring chlorination at two or more points. The gas feeder shall mount directly on the ton container gas valve by means of a yoke assembly. B. The gas feeder shall contain a positive acting gas shut-off valve, a diaphragm operated pressure relief valve, and an excess vacuum shut-off valve. An indicator shall provide a visual signal when chlorine gas supply is exhausted or interrupted. When specified in the Functional Description, the gas feeder shall be furnished with an automatic changeover function through the use of a second vacuum regulator. Each regulator will indicate whether it is in the Reserve, Operating or a No Gas condition. The changeover system shall not require the use of an external valve. When specified in the Functional Description, an out-of-gas switch contact kit shall be provided. C. The gas feeder shall have a maximum capacity of 500 PPD and components shall be sized for the capacity specified in the Functional Description. D. The vacuum regulator shall feed gas under vacuum from the source to the point of application up to a feed rate of 500 PPD (10 kg/h) chlorine. E. The vacuum regulator shall be fitted with a gas filter having an area of at least 4 square inches and a pore size of 90 microns. 2.03 GAS FEEDER, METER PANEL A. Meter Assemblies shall be provided to indicate gas flow rate and shall be suitable for mounting on the vacuum regulator or on a wall. A rotameter and rate control valve shall be furnished for each distribution point. The number of distribution points, their location, the location of their respective rotameters and rate control valves and the type of rate control valve for each point shall be specified in the Functional Description and as shown on the contract drawings. B. Each Meter Assembly shall contain a manually adjusted rate valve. The rate valve plug shall be solid silver. One gas flowmeter shall have dual scale (English/metric) and be sized for an operating maximum capacity of 10 PPD/200 g/h. One gas flowmeter shall have dual scale (English/metric) and be sized for an operating maximum capacity of 25 PPD/500 g/h Provide a spare 3PPD and 10PPD replacement tube with the unit. K-3
C. The Meter Assembly shall be constructed of molded plastic, suitable for wet or dry gas service. Accuracy of chlorine feed shall be +4% of the set rate over a 20:1 range for both automatic and manual feed. D. The vacuum inlet and outlet shall be 5/8 inch. A tubing fitting kit shall be provided with each Meter Assembly to facilitate connecting 5/8, 1/2 or 3/8 vacuum tubing. 2.04 EJECTORS/CHECK VALVES A. Where gas is to be fed to multiple points of distribution, the gas feeder shall be furnished with the following additional components for each point: an appropriately sized ejector and rate control valve. Additional points shall be controlled manually or automatically as specified in the Functional Description and as shown on the contract drawings. B. Each ejector shall be provided with dual back check valves and an emergency drain connection. C. Within the ejector there are dual check valves and an emergency drain connection to prevent water from reaching the vacuum regulator. D. The gas feeder shall be constructed entirely of materials resistant to the corrosive attack of chlorine gas. E. Ejector Conditions are as follows for both units: Size: 25 #/Day Back Pressure: 42 PSIG Supply Pressure: 110 PSIG Water Flow: 5.5 GPM for each 11 GPM for two ejectors. ejector total F. The ejector shall have a 5/8 inch vacuum connection. 2.05 DIFFUSER/CORPORATION STOP A. The corporation stop shall be provided with 1 inch IPS threads. The assembly shall be provided complete with a 1 inch hose adapter, 1 inch NPT adapter and ejector close-coupling adapter for inlet connection. The corporation stop shall have a 1/2 inch PVC solution tube. 2.06 SCALES, 150 lb. CYLINDERS K-4
A. A quantity of one (1) chlorine scale shall be provided and shall be of the digital readout/electronic load cell type. Scale platform shall be constructed of non-corrosive PVC plastic and sized to accept 150 lb. cylinders from 10 1/4" (260mm) to 10 1/2" (267mm) in diameter. Platform height shall be no more than 1-5/8" (38mm) to allow easy handling and unloading of cylinders. Platform scale coating system shall be a minimum dry thickness of 80 mils and be resistant to moisture, chemicals, abrasion, impact and UV light. B. Scale shall be of the single load cell design. Weight shall be transferred via a pivoted platform to a single stainless steel canister load cell of the electronic strain gauge type. Load cell shall be mechanically sealed with o-rings. Potted-type load cells shall not be accepted. Flexible cable shall connect load cell to indicator to allow easy remote installation of the readout. Cable length shall be 10 feet (10'/3M standard). Cylinder chaining bracket shall be wall mounted and use a double coil chain and a spring loaded snap hook to sure cylinder. Chaining bracket shall have an integral tool rack for storing cylinder change-out tools. C. A 4½ digit LCD indicator shall be housed in a NEMA 4X, UL approved enclosure. LCD Indicator shall be backlit with.5" characters for ease of readability in low light conditions. To allow indication of net weight, indicator shall be equipped with a sealed ten-turn knob for tare adjustment. Indicator shall output net weight via a 4-20mA signal for remote monitoring. Indicator shall have two adjustable set points for alarms or liquid level control. D. Scale shall carry a Full Five (5) Year Factory Warranty. Limited Warranties shall be considered unacceptable. Full scale accuracy shall be better than 1%. Scale shall be CHLOR-SCALE 150 with TUF-COAT TM coating and SOLO 1000 digital display 2.07 GAS DETECTORS A. The chlorine gas detector shall consist of a wall mounted receiver and remote sensor. The gas detector shall have a range of 0-10 parts per million (ppm). B. The receiver shall provide a LED bar graph display. The LED bar graph display shall be color-coded to indicate sensor status, gas concentration and alarm set point. Additional LEDs shall provide for indication of set point alarm, sensor malfunction, power ON and sensor ready. The receiver shall be housed in a NEMA 4X enclosure. K-5
C. The sensor shall be an electrochemical type requiring no chemical addition with a response time of 30 seconds maximum for 80% of full range at 20 degrees C. The sensor shall be wall mounted and housed in a NEMA 4X enclosure. D. The alarm and malfunction contacts shall be SPDT rated at 10 amps at 240 Vac or 28 Vdc maximum resistive or inductive load. The alarm and malfunction contacts shall be field configurable for manual reset (latching) or automatic reset (non-latching). E. Communications between the sensor and receiver shall be 3-wire, shielded, 22 gauge cable. The maximum distance between the receiver and sensor shall be 1000 feet/305 meters. F. The gas detector shall operate from a 120 Vac, 50/60 Hz, 1 phase power supply. The receiver and sensor electronics shall have provisions for protection against radio frequency/electromagnetic interference. 2.08 GAS DETECTORS ACCESSORIES TO BE INCLUDED A. The Gas Detector Power Back-up, with internal battery automatically provides power to the Severn Trent Services, Series 1600 Gas Detectors in the event of a power failure. No manual switching is required. The Gas Detector Power Back-up shall automatically and continuously recharge to supply maximum support. B. The Gas Detector Power Back-up shall be provided with a POWER switch, POWER indicator, a LED indicator for ALARM, an audible alarm and an OFF control for silencing the audible alarm. The Gas Detector Power Back-up shall provide charging rate and battery status LED indicators. A high and a low charging rate shall be provided to the internal 18 volt battery. C. The Gas Detector Power Back-up shall be housed in a NEMA 4X enclosure. D. The Gas Detector Power Back-up shall operate from a 120 Vac, 50/60 Hz, 1 phase power supply. Terminals for battery power back-up shall be provided. E. Remote 110 volt alarm light and horn shall be provided for location outside the building K-6
2.09 SAFETY EQUIPMENT A. One ABS non-locking wall mounted cabinet for installation for out doors and sized for the following gas mask. B. One MSA cartridge gas mask complete with one cartridge for chlorine and one additional spare cartridge for chlorine. END OF SECTION K-7
