In Finland this is covered by Rescue Act. NSHEVS must be maintained according instructions of manufacturer once a year of more often. In this service the system is inspected and minimum 20 % of ventilators are test relesed, The NSHEVS must have a log book for maintenance, where arr actions done are recorded. According maintenance instructions of Keravent the cycle of whole system is test released in maximum five years. It is recommended that the building has a named person in charge of maintenance, and to organize contract with specialized service company. The person in charge should maintain the log book. Annual service and maintenance should be done by a specialized experts who are trained for these actions. All Keravent power supplies of NSHEVS are equipped with service timer, which reminds of service needs in case maintenance is not done in time.

This solution offers optimized cable costs. Design, installation and maintenance of smoke exhaust systems RIL 232-2012, Design, installation and maintenance of smoke exhaust systems, complements the European standard EN 12101 and provides guidelines for functional recommendations and calculation methods for smoke exhaust ventilation systems. Details ORIVENT SMOKE EXHAUST SHAFT Orivent shaft is manufactured by robot cutting machinery of sandwich panel. Sandwich structure gives finishing features; finished surfaces, finished insulation, fire and smoke compartmentation, option to install ladder for access to shaft and integrated NSHEV of same finished materials on top of shaft. Sandwich shaft is constant, warm and air tight structure. Regulations RakMk E1, E2 and E4A can be used for the design of smoke exhaust ventilation systems for staircases, basements, production buildings and garages. Another simple method is using a design scheme where the building is divided into four categories based on smoke production in the area. In areas, where personal safety is of high importance, calculations are based on steady state or developing fire simulations, and these fire simulations are carried out by a qualified engineer. According to RIL 232, the installation and maintenance of smoke exhaust systems must be carried out by personnel trained and skilled for the expertise. Fire safety and personal safety can be guaranteed, when installation, testing and regular maintenance is carried out by trained personnel. Installation and maintenance The supplier of the smoke exhaust system tests the system and signs the installation report along with other handover documentation, when installation carried out by system supplier. The installation report is to be presented to the building inspection authority and/or rescue authority if so required.
RT 38831 en 7 SMOKE EXHAUST IN APARTMENT BUILDINGS (Finnish Building Code E1: Fire safety of buildings, 11.4 2011 Smoke extraction) Means shall be designed and constructed in a building for adequate smoke extraction suitable for the different premises of the building. Means shall be provided for the extraction of smoke from, and for the flow of replacement air to fire-separated exits and fire-separated lift shaft. Means shall be provided for smoke extraction from the spaces of the basement storey, so that it will not be necessary to use fireseparated exits or fire-separated extinguishing routes for smoke extraction. In buildings of classes P2 and P3 with two storeys means for smoke extraction from the second floor exit shall be arranged through a window or hatch with an area of at least 0,5 m² and which is simple to open or break. In buildings of not more than 8 storeys means for smoke extraction from the upper part of the exits shall be arranged through a window or hatch with an area of at least m². When designing smoke extraction from the exits in buildings with more than 8 storeys it must be ensured that smoke and combustion gases will not endanger the evacuation from the premises connected with the exits. The arrangements concerning smoke extraction shall be negotiated with the local rescue authorities. RT 38831 en 8 CONTROL SYSTEMS Control panels 24 VDC, 48 VDC and 230 VAC Control panels have a built-in battery backup unless the building s power systems (230 VAC) have generators as a secondary power supply. The control system must have a battery back-up for 72 hours in case of incidents such as a power failure. The standard EN 12101-10 (Power Supply Equipment PSE) is applied to primary and secondary power supplies, and they require a CE marking. Power supply devices are divided into two categories class A devices are suitable for use with all systems class B devices are suitable for use with systems that are fail-safe. The power supply equipment for natural smoke and heat exhaust ventilation systems belongs to category A as it is not failsafe. Smoke control systems that are not fail-safe must have at least two power supplies: primary and secondary power supply. The primary power supply must be designed to use the power grid or similar. The secondary power supply, such as battery or generator, must be functional at all times and it must be tested and maintained regularly. If the primary power source fails, then the PSE shall be automatically switched over to a secondary power source. When the primary power source is restored, the PSE shall be automatically switched back. The capacity of the power supply depends on the total current load of hatches. Hatches are opened in groups as smoke reservoirs. Each room is a single reservoir. Large rooms are divided by smoke barriers into smaller reservoirs so that the area of one smoke reservoir does not exceed 2,000 m². In larger buildings control panels that operate as power supplies should be decentralised to ensure a reasonable cable thickness. Smoke vent buttons are usually located at the main entrance and/or near the fire control panel, where the scheme of the smoke exhaust system is also located.
