Port of the Islands CID Premier District Management Field Management Report Site Inspection on 11/09/2016 1. Lake Management: a. Lake Maintenance: The retention lakes were overall in fair shape again this month. Water levels are slightly below average for this time of year and torpedo grass was the only shoreline weed observed. Additional lake management details are provided below. b. Dissolved Oxygen (DO) Tests: The next tests are scheduled for January 2017. c. Littoral Plants: No issues observed this month. As the water levels continue to recede we may see some of the lesser drought tolerant plants die off during the winter months. d. Shoreline Weeds: Weed issues this month included: i. Torpedo grass present in Lakes: Low to medium presence within all of the lakes. (Treatment needed). e. Submerged Weeds: None present. f. Algae: None present. g. Fish: No concerns observed this month. h. Trash: Multiple plastic bags were observed floating in the pond again across from Wilderness Cay and Windward Cay. i. Lake Aeration: No aeration present. j. Shoreline Landscaping: No concerns observed this month. k. Lake Bank Erosion: Gully erosion was observed on the western bank of the retention pond just south of Stella Maris Drive. The gully is minor and only needs to be monitored for now. 1
2. Roadways: a. Asphalt: No new issues observed this month. b. Potholes: No issues observed this month. c. Curbing / Storm Water Gutters: No new issues observed this month. d. Street Signage: i. The Sanctuary Point sign needs to be pressure cleaned and painted. ii. Several blue fire hydrant roadway reflectors are missing on Newport Drive and on Sunset Cay. In the event of an emergency these help the fire department find the fire hydrants at night. 2
e. Roadway Landscaping: i. Several oak tree branches are over hanging onto the Union Road bike/walking lane which is causing pedestrians to ride/walk into the vehicle lane. For safety reasons these branches should be cut back. ii. A large dead palm tree was observed along Union Road. It s not a problem but it might be an eyesore for some. The CID may want to have the tree removed. iii. Grass within the Newport Drive median between the boat ramp entrance and Sunrise Cay appears to be dying. We ll ask Soto to conduct a wet check for this area to verify that all of the zones are working. f. Roadway Lighting: No concerns observed. 3. Sidewalks: No new issues or concerns observed this month. 3
4. Storm Drainage System: a. Catch Basins: Roadway basins that were inspected only had minimal trash floating in them. b. Water Control Structures (WCS): Thick vegetation was observed around the WCS at the end of Venus Cay. The vegetation could potentially be slowing down the drainage in this area so it should be cleared out. This is a task that the PDM maintenance technician can handle if the CID approves. c. Culverts: i. Many of the culverts along Newport Drive remain with silt in them. Now would be a very good time to start cleaning them out. PDM could provide our maintenance technician to begin working on this project if the CID approves. d. Drain Pipes: The small drain pipes in front of 158 Windward Cay are 90% clogged and should be cleaned out. PDM could provide our maintenance technician to begin working on this project if the CID approves. 4
e. Drainage Swales / Dry Detention Ponds / Banks: Areas that were inspected appear to be properly working. 5. Wells: The well road has very high grass growing along the sides and along the center strip which should be mowed. There are also many branches encroaching onto the road that should be cut back. If there is no maintenance plan in place for this, we can have the PDM maintenance technician conduct a one-time cutting and clean up. 6. Front Entrance Monuments: The following issues were observed this month. a. Main Monument: No new issues were observed this month. b. Side Monuments: No new issues were observed this month. c.
