IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THIS APPLIANCE. When using an electrical appliance, basic precautions should always be followed, including the following: SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS. WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock or injury: 1. Do not leave appliance unattended when plugged in. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before servicing. 2. WARNING: ELECTRIC SHOCK COULD OCCUR IF USED OUTDOORS OR ON WET SURFACES. 3. Do not allow to be used as a toy. Close attention is necessary when used by or near children. 4. Use only as described in this manual. 5. Do not use with damaged cord or plug. If appliance is not working as it should, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors or dropped into water, return it to a service center. 6. Do not pull or carry by cord, use cord as a handle, close a door on cord, or pull cord around sharp edges or corners. Do not run appliance over cord. Keep cord away from heated surfaces. 7. Do not unplug by pulling on cord. To unplug, grasp the plug, not the cord. 8. Do not handle plug or appliance with wet hands. 9. Turn off all controls before unplugging. 10. Do not put any object into openings. Do not use with any opening blocked; keep free of dust, lint, hair and anything that may reduce air flow. 11. Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers and all parts of body away from openings and moving parts. 12. Do not pick up anything that is burning or smoking, such as cigarettes, matches or hot ashes. 13. Do not use without vacuum bag in place. 14. Use extra care when cleaning on stairs. 15. Do not use to pick up flammable or combustible liquids such as gasoline or use in areas where they may be present. 16. Do not attempt to service the unit while appliance is plugged in. 2

Two-Wire Polarized Cord Household Model This product is equipped with a polarized alternating current line plug (a plug having one blade wider than the other). This plug will fit into the power outlet only one way. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug should still fail to fit, contact an electrician to replace the obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized plug. Three-Wire Polarized Cord Commercial Model This appliance must be grounded. If it should malfunction or break down, grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. This appliance is equipped with a cord having an equipment-grounding conductor and grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances. This appliance is for use on a nominal 120 volt circuit and has a grounding attachment plug that looks like the plug illustrated in Fig. 1. Make sure that the appliance is connected to an outlet having the same configuration as the plug. No adapter should be used with this appliance. WARNING - Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can result in a risk of electric shock. Check with a qualified electrician or service person if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet is properly grounded. Do not modify the plug provided with the appliance. If it will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician. How to Assemble the Vacuum Installing the Handle The vacuum cleaner handle is packed as a separate component that requires assembly. 1. R elease the handle bracket from the handle tube by removing the two screws (figure 1). 2. Place handle onto the handle tube, aligning holes with pegs (figure 2). 3. Place the handle bracket back into position (figure 3). 4. Secure with two screws removed in step 1. 5. T hread cord through cord guides and proceed with wrapping the cord (figures 4 & 5). 6. Wrap the cord around the top and bottom cord hooks. Fasten the plug to the wrapped cord using the channel on the plug. When not in use, store the vacuum indoors in a clean, dry area where it cannot be damaged or cause injury. Fig. 1 Commercial Model On/Off 2 Speed Switch The switch, located on the vacuum handle, is a three-way switch. The middle position is the Off setting, the rear position is the On setting and the forward position is for maximum power. Use the maximum power setting for carpet cleaning and the On setting for cleaning bare floors and throw rugs. Pull the switch backward to turn the vacuum on. Push the switch halfway back to turn the vacuum off. Push the switch all the way forward to use the maximum power setting. Fig. 2 Fig. 3 Fig. 4 Fig. 5 The vacuum cleaner should be turned off before returning the handle to its full upright position. Always turn the vacuum cleaner off before unplugging it from the electrical outlet. Household Model On/Off Single Speed Switch The switch, located on the handle is a single speed switch. Push the switch forward to turn the machine on. Push the switch back to turn the machine off. Vacuum Features Edge Cleaning The edge cleaning feature provides improved cleaning near walls and stationary furniture. For maximum edge cleaning, place the left side of the nozzle from the user s perspective against the wall or stationary furniture. Automatic Carpet Height Adjustment Your vacuum cleaner is designed with an automatic, self-adjusting nozzle. No manual adjustments are required. The height of the nozzle is instantly and automatically adjusted to the flooring surface. This self-adjusting feature allows the nozzle to float evenly over all flooring surfaces. Commercial Model Bare Floor Cleaning Your vacuum cleaner comes equipped with a squeegee on the bottom of the vacuum to improve its effectiveness in cleaning bare floors (figure 6). When cleaning tile, hardwood, linoleum, etc., use the On setting, as opposed to the maximum power setting for best results. 5 Fig. 6

If you have trouble installing the new squeegee, please visit a Carpet Pro vacuum service center. How to Reset the Circuit Breaker Your vacuum features a circuit breaker to protect the machine against damage due to a surge in the electrical current. Electrical surging can be a result of, though not limited to, a jammed brushroll (i.e. vacuuming up a sock or throw rug) or a jammed motor fan. Fig. 15 Should your Carpet Pro vacuum cleaner experience a jammed brushroll with the circuit breaker tripping, first press the On/Off button to the Off position and unplug the unit. Inspect the brushroll by removing the bottom plate (see How to Remove the Bottom Plate ) and remove any debris that may be causing the jam. Reinstall the bottom plate (see How to Install the Bottom Plate ), reset the circuit breaker by pressing the Circuit Breaker Reset Button (figure 16), plug in the power cord, and turn the unit on. If the unit fails to turn on, visit a Carpet Pro vacuum service center. 7 Circuit breaker reset button Fig. 16
