Important information Safety information This product must be installed by a competent person in accordance with all relevant current Water Supply Regulations. ALL SHOWERS REQUIRING AN ELECTRICAL CONNECTI0N MUST BE INSTALLED BY A QUALIFIED PERSON FOLLOWING THE LATEST REVISION OF BS 7671 (WIRING REGULATIONS) AND CERTIFIED TO CURRENT BUILDING REGULATIONS. This system should be installed so that other taps or appliances operated elsewhere within the premises do not significantly affect the flow. The shower must not be used with a hot water supply temperature of over 65ºC. We recommend the MAXIMUM outlet temperature is set to 46ºC (factory pre-set at max 45 ºC). The Digital processor must be installed in an accessible location for servicing and maintenance. The Digital processor must not be installed in situations where the ambient temperature is likely to exceed 40ºC. The control must not be installed in situations where the ambient temperature is likely to fall below 5ºC or rise above 70ºC. We do not recommend the use of Quartz Digital in steam therapy facilities. This appliance must be earthed. Cables which are chased into the wall must be protected by a suitable conduit or sheathing. Surface mounted cables must also be protected by a suitable approved conduit. The power lead must only be replaced by the manufacturer or his accredited agent. The user control is supplied from a safety low voltage source. This product is suitable for domestic use only. Quartz Digital is supplied complete with a 5 year guarantee. Installation of Digital pumped processor (for gravity stored systems) The Quartz Digital pumped shower system is designed to operate up to maximum static pressure of 100kPa ((1 bar)(10 metres head)(14.5psi)). Under no circumstances must the pumped processor be connected directly to the water main or in line with another booster pump. The minimum actual capacity of the cold water storage cistern should be not less than 225 litres (50 gallons). The capacity of the hot water cylinder must be capable of meeting anticipated demand. Installation of Digital standard processor (for balanced high pressure and unvented systems, combination boiler systems and separately pumped gravity systems) Pressures: The Quartz Digital standard shower system is designed to operate up to a maximum static pressure of 700kPa ((7 bar)(100psi)). Where pressures are likely to exceed 700kPa ((7 bar)(100psi)), a pressure reducing valve must be fitted to the incoming mains supply. A setting of 400kPa ((4 bar)(60psi)) is recommended. It should be noted that daytime pressures approaching 600kPa ((6 bar)(80psi)) can rise above the stated maximum overnight. Special notes for combination boiler systems The appliance must have a minimum domestic hot water rating of 24kW (80,000BTU) and be of the type fitted with a fully modulating gas valve. If in any doubt, please contact the appliance manufacturer before installation commences. PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS OF COMBINATION BOILERS, THE SHOWER FLOW RATE MAY VARY WITH CHANGES TO THE MAIN INLET TEMPERATURE. INLET TEMPERATURE CHANGE MAY ALSO CAUSE THE DIGITAL CONTROLLER TO FLASH. THIS IS NOT NECESSARILY CHANGING THE OUTLET TEMPERATURE. Special notes for separately pumped gravity systems We recommend a twin ended pump with a MINIMUM pump rating of 1.5 bar. For optimum performance a twin ended 2.5 bar pump should be used. The minimum actual capacity of the cold water storage cistern should be not less than 225 litres (50 gallons). The capacity of the hot water cylinder must be capable of meeting the anticipated demand. Quartz Digital concelaed adjustable/fixed installation instuctions page 4

Important information THIS PRODUCT IS NOT SUITABLE FOR USE WITH A SINGLE ENDED PUMP. Connections This product incorporates push-fit type connections. Tube should be cut using a rotary type cutter and lubricated using a silicone-based lubricant or petroleum jelly (Vaseline or similar) prior to insertion into the fitting. If plastic pipe is used, the tube insert must not increase the tube diameter or extend the cut-off length by more than 2mm. THESE FITTINGS ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR STAINLESS STEEL TUBE. Flushing Some modern fluxes can be extremely corrosive and, if left in contact, will attack the working parts of this unit. All soldering must be completed and the pipe work thoroughly flushed out in accordance with current Water Supply Regulations prior to connection of the product. After installation Familiarise the end user with the Quartz Digital operation and hand them this guide. Complete and post the guarantee card or register online at www.aqualisa.co.uk Quartz Digital concelaed adjustable/fixed installation instuctions page 5

Step-by-step instructions In addition to the guide below it is essential that the written instructions opposite are read and understood and that you have all the necessary components (shown overleaf) before commencing installation. Failure to install the product in accordance with these instructions may adversely affect the warranty terms and conditions. Do not undertake any part of this installation unless you are competent to do so. Prior to starting ensure that you are familiar with the necessary plumbing regulations required to install the product correctly and safely. The Quartz Digital is supplied with universal fixings. 1 The Quartz Digital processor must be fixed in one of the three positions shown. 290mm 432mm 290mm 114mm 335mm 114mm 2 Isolation valves are supplied with the Digital processor and must be fitted on both inlets and the blended water outlet. All pipe work should be run in 15mm pipe. All pipe work should be supported. For externally pumped gravity fed installations, 22mm pipe work should be run as close to the processor as possible before reducing down to 15mm. The inlet supply centres are 48mm. The inlet supply centres deviate from EN1111, but are deemed to be a special case. Please note arrow on isolation valve to indicate direction of flow. 3 Choose the position for your Digital processor as close to the shower control as possible. The processor may be sited in the roof space above the proposed shower site, in the airing cupboard or behind a screwed bath panel if more convenient. If siting in the roof space, ensure that freezing cannot occur and that no insulation material is placed under or over the processor. Please refer to the system layout diagrams overleaf. Quartz Digital concelaed adjustable/fixed installation instuctions page 6

For gravity fed and separately pumped systems, the base of the Digital processor MUST BE SITED NO HIGHER than the base level of the cold water storage cistern. The distance between the processor and shower control must be within range of the data cable supplied (10m). Hand tight only The processor must be sited in a position so that access can be gained for testing and service purposes. Filter Check valve Check valves are supplied with the non-pumped processor and should be fitted to both inlets when used on combination boiler systems. 4 Place the Digital processor on a solid mounting surface, mark and prepare the fixings before securing the processor to the mounting surface using the screws provided. 5 Flush out the 15mm hot and cold supply pipes. The maximum hot water inlet temperature must be no more than 65 C. 6 Connect the supply pipes to the Digital processor, ensuring that the cold and hot feeds are fitted into the appropriately marked inlets. DO NOT SOLDER NEAR TO PLASTIC COMPONENTS 7 Run a pipe from the mixed water outlet on the Digital processor through the wall to the proposed siting for the shower hose outlet, fixed head or diverter depending on the system purchased. Quartz Digital concelaed adjustable/fixed installation instuctions page 7

8 Place the paper template on the wall in the desired location for the shower control and mark all fixing points and the data cable entry point. Remove the template and drill a Ø16mm hole at the appropriate position for the data cable. The data cable should be run in conduit to allow for replacement if required. If installing this Quartz Digital as a replacement shower, it may be necessary to purchase a Quartz Digital retro-fit wall plate to first cover the existing hole in the tiling. The cavity in the wall should be plugged using a suitable material for the wall plate and controller to be secured to. Contact our Customer Service Department to purchase a chrome (part no. 223121) retro-fit wall plate. 9 Drill and prepare the four wall fixings for the controller using the fixings provided. 10 Feed the control connection end of the data cable through the centre hole in the mounting template. Run a bead of silicone sealant in the mastic groove on the back of the mounting plate and press into position onto the finished wall surface. Ensure the data cable is held securely by the narrow middle slot of the mounting plate and fix to the wall using the screws provided. Quartz Digital concelaed adjustable/fixed installation instuctions page 8

11 Plug the data cable into the rear of the controller and slide onto the mounting plate. Secure the controller to the back plate with the fixing screw located at the base of the controller using a small Posidrive screw driver. 12 Connect the low voltage data cable to the Digital processor via the socket located under the black protective flap. Feed the cable out of the processor by threading it under the small red lip to the left of the socket, then screw the flap back down to provide a watertight seal. 13 Connect the processor power lead to a double pole 3 amp fuse switched spur incorporated in the fixed wiring circuit, in accordance with current wiring rules. Ensure that this is located in an accessible, dry location and not in the bathroom. THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED The data cable and power lead can be routed in the grooves provided under the processor. They should also be clipped in place with P clips or similar to avoid accidents. Please refer to the instructions opposite for installation of your shower head. 14 When the shower head is connected, run the shower at maximum temperature (factory pre-set). If the temperature needs regulating, then adjust the setting using a small screwdriver under the black protective flap on the Digital processor in dry surroundings. Take care not to over turn the adjuster. Site conditions can affect temperature settings, installer to adjust as required. ALL COPPER PIPE WORK MUST BE EARTH BONDED AND CONNECTED TO A RELIABLE EARTHING POINT Quartz Digital concelaed adjustable/fixed installation instuctions page 9

Adjustable height head 1 Prepare two fixing points 642mm-655mm vertically apart using a spirit level to facilitate if necessary. Fit the rail end clip into position and loosely fit the lower bracket into position. 2 Pass the rail through the handset holder whilst keeping the slider levers depressed with the handset holder pointing in a downward direction. 3 Carefully slide the gel hanger onto the rail under the handset holder. 4 Current water supply regulations state the handset should not be allowed to pass a point 25mm above the spill over level of the bath or shower tray. If this cannot be achieved, the hose must be passed through the gel hanger which has been designed to also be utilised as a hose restraint. 5 Fit the rail into the rail end bodies taking care to engage the location slot onto the lugs. 6 Fit the rail end clip into position into the top rail end body and secure the rail assembly to the wall using the screws provided, ensuring the rail and rail end bodies remain firmly engaged. Quartz Digital concelaed adjustable/fixed installation instuctions page 10

7 Place the rail end covers into position and push firmly into place. 8 Ensure the pipe work from the processor to the required position for the hose outlet is prepared using a ø15mm copper pipe. Slide the 15mm gripper ring down the projecting pipe up to the wall face. 9 Trim the projecting pipe to a length of 15-22mm measured from the finished wall surface, using a rotary type cutter. If a hacksaw is used, the pipe end must be carefully de-burred and chamfered. 10 Clean and lubricate the pipe using a suitable (silicone based) lubricant. 11 Remove the wall outlet cover plate and carefully slide the wall outlet onto the projecting pipe. Turn to the required position and mark the screw holes on the wall face. 12 Remove the wall outlet and drill and prepare the wall fixings. 13 Ensure the projecting pipe is clean and lubricate again if necessary. Run a thin bead of silicone sealant to the rear of the wall outlet. Refit the wall outlet and secure it to the wall using the screws provided. Refit the wall outlet cover plate. Quartz Digital concelaed adjustable/fixed installation instuctions page 11

14 Connect the hose to the wall outlet assembly after passing it through the gel hanger / hose restraint (if required) and run the shower for 15 seconds without the handset attached to clear any internal debris, which may be present. 15 Attach the conical end of the hose to the shower handset, taking care not to twist the hose, and place in the handset holder. Fixed head The maximum panel thickness for installation of the fixed head is 35mm, which includes a maximum tile thickness of 15mm. 1 Run a 15mm outlet pipe from the processor to the preferred position for the fixed head arm. The pipe must terminate with a suitable " BSP female fitting, to accept the spigot at the correct depth as detailed in instruction no.2 below. If the spigot cannot be secured to the wall then the pipe must be secured using a clip or another form of fixing. 2 Secure the spigot into the " female fitting allowing it to project to a length of 31-46mm measured from the finished surface using the washing and back nut as required. A 12mm hexagonal key can be inserted into the front of the spigot to facilitate tightening. Quartz Digital concelaed adjustable/fixed installation instuctions page 12

3 Insert the red " BSP plug into the front of the spigot and tighten. Turn on the shower valve to pressurise the system and thoroughly check the outlet assembly for any leaks. 4 Turn off the shower and leave the plug in place to prevent ingress of debris during the making good process. No parts of the shower system should be cemented into the wall. 5 Carefully slide the cover plate down the fixed head arm to give clear access to the fixing plate. 6 Carefully remove the plug from the fixing spigot remembering that the system contains water that may be under pressure. 7 Ensuring that the spigot O ring is clean and slightly lubricated (using a silicone based lubricant or petroleum jelly), slide the fixed head arm over the mounting spigot until it meets the wall surface. 8 Set the arm into position and mark the fixing points. Remove the arm and drill and prepare the wall fixings. Refit the arm and secure it to the wall using the screws provided. 9 Tighten the M5 locking screw located on the underside of the fixing plate using the hexagonal key provided and slide the cover plate into position against the wall face. 10 Unscrew and remove the spray cassette and run the shower for a few seconds to clear any internal debris. Refit the spray cassette. Quartz Digital concelaed adjustable/fixed installation instuctions page 13
