Happy Spring! The weather continues to do what the weather does with these swings in temperature; it must be spring. So, we should be wrapping up our deciduous potting. Most of the deciduous trees are putting out their leaves. Wait to fertilized until the leaves stop growing. Pinch the shoots on Maples to keep the the internodes short. Keep an eye on this fresh growth as the aphids and scale insects are looking for a new meal. Also look for white growing tips on Pines and Junipers. Get those repotted if necessary as soon as possible. Ilex are in bloom so it is time to repot them as well. Depending up where you live, you may still have time to repot Cypress. They are producing buds and beginning to bud out. Cypress trees should be repotted when dormant. With these wild swings in temps, be careful repotting tropicals. Ficus may be ok. It is best to have night time temperatures consistently in the upper 50s and low 60s at least It is just not time to repot buttonwood, black olive nea etc. These should be repotted during the summer months. Keep an eye on the weather forecasts and Happy Repotting. We have an excellent program on Thursday, March 15 (no meeting on Monday). Our guest artist, Juan Andrade, is now living in Florida, and we are lucky to have him available to us. Check out the information below. Juan Andrade
