The application of foam is on the basis that the risk comprises the total surface area of the fuel. The foam system design guidelines generally used are in accordance with NFPA-11, standard. Foam chambers are defined by NFPA-11 as Type II discharge outlets for delivering the foam to the surface of a flammable liquid. The Foam Chambers are widely used with the Inline Foam Inductor, Balance Pressure Foam Proportioning system, Bladder Tank Proportioner or Foam Tender. JUNE, 2014 PAGE 1 OF 6 HD 254

SPECIFICATION Foam Chamber is an air aspirating foam discharge device, covering wide range of flow from 150 to 2400 litres per minute at 2.8 to 7 kg/sq.cm. inlet pressure. The Foam Chamber contains a vapour seal to prevent the entry of vapour into the foam chamber and the foam solution pipe. Each foam chamber is supplied with an orifice plate, designed for the required flow and inlet pressure. The orifice is field replaceable in the event of change in design parameters. The foam is produced by introducing air into the foam solution stream. The inlet of foam chamber is designed to create venturi jet which draws air into the foam solution stream. The air is drawn into the foam solution through the holes located on the foam chamber covered with stainless steel screen to exclude nesting birds and insects. The aerated foam is directed into the deflector for the gentle application of the expanded foam. The deflectors are available in different models. On removal of cover plate from the top of the chamber allows the system to be tested and to draw a sample of the expanded foam, without removing the vapour seal or disconnecting the foam chamber from the tank. Frangible glass bursting disc (vapour seal) can be replaced by easily. The vapour seal is designed to rupture within 0.7 to 1.75 Kg/sq.cm. (10 to 25 PSI) pressure at inlet flange of Foam Chamber, as required by NFPA, UL & FM standard. The vapour seal will withstand maximum back pressure of 0.07 Kg/sq.cm. Bar (1.0 PSI) or equal to 686mm of water column as specified by API for welded storage tank. If the requirement exceeds 0.07 Kg/sq.cm. Bar (1.0 PSI) as in case of nitrogen blanketing system, then this equipment may not be suitable. The vapour seal is frangible glass. The vapour seal is supplied with holder and for spares it can be with or without holder. The O ring used for seal are Nitride rubber and optional Viton for polar solvent. SYSTEM DESIGN REQUIREMENT The NFPA-11, a standard for low expansion foam, provides the essential requirement of an appropriate designed foam pouring system, which are identified and outlined as below: The Foam Deflector is used with the Foam Chamber. The aerated foam from the Foam Chamber is directed in to the deflector for the gentle application of the expanded foam. The deflector reduces the expanded foam velocity and allows the foam to slide down the tank wall. (a) Number of Foam Chamber: The number of foam chambers required is determined by the tank diameter. Where two or more foam chambers are required, they shall be spaced equally around the tank periphery and each Foam Chamber shall be sized to deliver foam at an approximately same rate. Please refer graph to select the unit that will provide the required minimum foam solution application rate at the available operating pressure of the Foam Chamber. For minimum number of Foam Chamber requirement, kindly follow the recommendations as per NFPA/OISD/TAC or as per the governmental codes or ordinances wherever applicable. (b) Minimum Foam Solution Application Rate: The minimum foam solution application rate is the rate at which the water and foam concentrate in correctly proportioned ratio should be delivered to the surface of a storage tank under protection to control and extinguish the fire. For minimum application rate requirement, follow the recommendations as per NFPA/OISD/ TAC or governmental codes or ordinances wherever applicable. JUNE, 2014 PAGE 2 OF 6 HD 254

TESTING & MAINTENANCE Qualified and trained person must commission the system. After few initial successful tests, an authorized person must be trained to perform inspection and testing of the system. It is recommended to carry out physical inspection of the system regularly. The system must be fully tested at least once in a year or in accordance with applicable NFPA/OISD/TAC standards or in accordance with standards of the organization having local jurisdiction. Do not turn off the system or any valve to make repair or test the system, without placing a roving Fire Patrol in the area covered by the system. The Patrol should continue until the system is put back in service. Also inform the local security guard and control alarm station, so as to avoid false alarm. Each system is to be flushed properly. The vapour seal must be replaced if the system has been operated. Normal testing of the chamber can be carried out by removing the cover plate from the top of the chamber. This allows the system to draw a sample of the expanded foam without removing the vapour seal or disconnecting the Foam Chamber from the tank. The air screen is to be inspected periodically for the obstruction of air inlet holes. If any obstruction is noticed, remove the same and flush if necessary. It is recommended to have regular maintenance programme to inspect the Vapour Seal Chamber discharge area and deflector for possible deposit or obstruction. CAUTION Do not install Foam chambers on pressured storage tanks (Inert gas blanketed tanks) and storage tanks containing product which attack the foam chamber standard construction material. Maximum permissible back pressure on vapour seal is 0.07 Kg/sq.cm.2 (1.0 PSI) NOTE: 1. A PROVISION IS TO BE MADE FOR PRESSURE GAUGE MOUNTING AT INLET OF FOAM CHAMBER, WHICH MAY BE PLUGGED AFTER SUCCESSFUL COMMISSIONING OF THE SYSTEM. THIS WILL HELP TO ANALYSE THE SYSTEM WHILE COMMISSIONING. 2. REFER TO THE INDIVIDUAL FOAM LISTING FOR OPERATING LIMITATION WITH EACH FOAM CONCENTRATE AND FOAM CHAMBER. INLINE FOAM INDUCTOR TECHNICAL DATA MODEL IG - Bronze material IS - Stainless Steel material OPERATING 6.5 to 12 BAR PRESSURE (93-175 PSI) FACTORY 25 BAR (365 PSI) HYDROSTATIC TEST PRESSURE INDUCTION 3 or 6% MAXIMUM BACK 65% of Inlet Pressure PRESSURE NOMINAL SIZE 65, 80, 100 &150 MM FINISH Red RAL 3000 ORDERING 1) Inductor Inlet Pressure INFORMATION 2) Foam solution flow required 3) Percentage of induction 4) Type of foam concentrate to be used 5) Maximum suction lift. 6) Flange connection DESCRIPTION Inline Foam Inductor is used to induct the foam liquid concentrate in water stream to supply proportioned solution of the liquid concentrate and water, to the foam producing equipment. The inductors are designed primarily for use in the fixed foam installation to provide a simple and reliable method of proportioning in constant flow applications. Each Inductor is designed for a pre-determined water pressure to give the correct proportioning at that pressure and discharge rate. The increase or decrease of the inlet pressure will result in an increase or decrease in the flow rate, which in turn will change the proportioning. SPECIFICATION Inductors are available in three different materials of construction, a wide range of flow from 75 to 3500 litres per minute at inlet pressure between 6.4 to 12 bar as shown in the graph. Each Inductor is accurately calibrated at the factory to match the flow, pressure and the induction requirement of the system. This enables to ensure and achieve the correct performance. SYSTEM DESIGN DETAILS The Inductor must be selected and installed in a hydraulically calculated system considering the limitation of permissible back pressure. The maximum back pressure allowed is expressed as 65% of pressure at the inlet of the inductor. The optimum performance of Inline Inductor is with pressure above 8 Bar (115 PSI). In the fixed foam system installation the inductor can be mounted above the concentrate storage tank. The maximum height of the Inductor suction pipe above the bottom of the storage tank to the inductor centre should not exceed 1.75 meters, with AFFF & 0.9 meter for AR-AFFF 3/3% foam concentrate. A minimum of 600 mm of unobstructed straight pipe line should be provided at the inlet and outlet of the inductor. The inductor must be installed in a system having minimum of 6.5 bar inlet pressure at inlet of inductor. The diameter of water supply pipe and water foam solution pipe should not be less than that of the diameter of the inductor. A shut-off valve provided in the induction line must be full bore on-off valve. The non-return valve if fitted in the foam induction pipe line, then it must be supplied or recommended by HD, so that the induction rate is properly calibrated in factory before supply. For best performance the inlet pressure at the inline inductor should be 6.8 bar or higher. APPLICATION Inline Foam Inductors are quite suitable for application utilizing single fixed discharge device. The Inline Inductors are not suitable for variable flow or pressure applications. The Inline Inductors are not suitable for Sprinkler system or system utilizing multiple small orifice discharge devices, which may result in increased back pressure due to blockage of discharge device. INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE Inductor must be supported firmly to prevent strain on the inductor itself. Qualified and trained person must commission the system. After few initial successful test, an authorized person must be trained to perform inspection and testing of the system. It is recommended to carry out physical inspection of the system regularly. The system must be fully tested at least once in a year or in accordance with applicable NFPA codes or in accordance to the standard of the organization having local jurisdiction. Do not turn off the system or any valve to make repair or test the system, without placing a roving Fire Patrol in the area covered by the system. The Patrol should continue until the system is back in service. Also inform the local security guard and control alarm station, so that a false alarm will not be signalled. SELECTION OF HD INLINE FOAM INDUCTOR SIZE Size of inductor Inductor K-Factor range 65NB 29.4 TO 170.00 80NB 151.2 TO 340.00 100NB 302.4 TO 680.00 150NB 604.8 TO 1030.00 NOTES 1) It is recommended to select next higher size of inductor when the K-factor is very close to the higher range of model. 2) A pressuge gauge mounting socket at inlet and outlet of Inductor must be provided, which will help to analize the system during commissioning. The socket can be plugged in once the system has been commissioned successfully. 3) The maximum permissible back pressure is 65% of inlet pressure. The system designer should consider and design the system with 62% or less than back pressure as safe design. 4) Inductor must be adequately supported so that no strain is imposed on the inductor body. For selecting Inductor size, following formula to be used : Q = K P Q = Total solution flow rate in litres per minute. K = Inductor constant P = Inlet pressure in kg/sq.cm. Example : To find K-Factor Q = 200 LPM P = 8.0 kg/sq.cm. K = 200 8 K = 70.71 This K=70.71 falls within the range of inductor with 50 NB size. Hence 50 NB inductor should be selected. SKID MOUNTED BALANCE PRESSURE FOAM PROPORTIONING SYSTEM APPLICATION Balance Pressure pump skid-proportioning system accurately controls the flow of foam concentrate in to the water stream. The system automatically controls the foam concentrate over a wide range of flow and pressure, without manual adjustment. The system is typically used in the fixed foam system and specialised mobile equipments to protect tank farm, offshore platform, air craft hanger, marine dock, loading rack and in many other applications and in all types of hazard. SPECIFICATION The basic system utilizes the principle of operation based on the use of a modified venturi device called Ratio Controller. As the water flows through a nozzle at the inlet of ratio controller, a low-pressure area is created between the inlet nozzle and a down stream section called diffuser. This low-pressure area causes foam concentrate to flow through a metering orifice at the concentrate inlet and into the low-pressure area. As the system demand varies, the flow through the ratio controller increase or decreases, which in turn varies the pressure at low pressure area of ratio controller, creating a corresponding pressure drop across the foam concentrate metering orifice. This corresponding change of pressure results in a foam concentrate flow, which is proportional to the water flow through the ratio controller. The pressure sensing line from the ratio controller inlet for water pressure, and from the concentrate supply side above the metering orifice are connected to a bypass valve. This valve automatically adjusts the concentrate pressure corresponding to the water pressure by re-circulating the concentrate in return line to the concentrate storage tank. Manually the pressure can also be balanced by using manual regulating globe valve to read equal pressure of the water gauge and the foam concentrate gauge (or through a duplex gauge). The system is available as a skid mounted unit, in different flow range, varying from 150 to 18000 LPM. Each skid consist of a positive displacement pump, a pump drive, an electric control, a bypass valve, a manual regulating valve, a ratio controller, interconnecting piping in stainless steel with various controlling valves, check valve, flush-in and flush-out valve. The system is also available for operation in auto mode. INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE A qualified and trained person must commission the system. After few initial successful tests, an authorised person must be trained to perform the inspection and testing of the system. It is recommended to carry out physical inspection of the system at least once in a week. The inspector should verify that all the valves are in their proper position as per the system requirement and there is no damage to any component. Do not turn off the system or any valve to repair or test the system, without placing a roving Fire Patrol in the area covered by the system. The patrol should continue until the system is back in service. Also inform the local security guards and control alarm station, so that a false alarm will not be signalled. The system must be periodically checked for its normal operating condition. All the valves must be verified for its normal operating condition. The electrical controls must also be verified. The system must be operated periodically to verify its normal operating condition as per the instruction for testing provided with the equipment. The entire system must be fully tested at least once in a year in accordance with the applicable NFPA codes, or in accordance to the guidelines of the organisation having local jurisdiction. SPECIFICATION Foam Maker is an air aspirating foam generator connected to the foam pourer to deliver the aspirated foam gently into the tank seal area. Foam maker covers wide range of foam solution rates from 75 to 550 litres per minute at 2.8 to 7 kg/sq.cm. inlet pressure. The orifice is field replaceable in the event of change in design parameters. The foam is produced by introducing air into the foam solution stream. The inlet of foam maker is designed to create venture jet which draws air into the foam solution stream. LISTED 4UT3 The air is drawn into the foam solution through holes located on the foam maker covered with stainless steel screen to exclude nesting birds and insects. The aerated foam is directed into the pourer for the gentle application of the expanded foam. The pourers are available in different models. TESTING AND MAINTENANCE Qualified and trained person must commission the system. After few initial successful tests, an authorized person must be trained to perform inspection and testing of the system. It is recommended to carry out physical inspection of the system regularly. The system must be fully tested at least once in a year or in accordance to standards of the organization having local jurisdiction. To test the Foam Maker without discharging the foam into the tank seal area, the foam maker is to be rotated 180o away from the wind shield. The air screen is to be inspected periodically for obstruction of air inlet holes. If any obstruction is noticed, remove the same and flush if necessary. The foam maker outlet and pourer, if exposed to atmospheric condition, should be periodically inspected for nest and other obstructions. Any obstruction if noticed must be removed and flushed to clear the discharge path. NOTE: A PROVISION IS TO BE MADE FOR PRESSURE GAUGE MOUNTING AT INLET OF FOAM MAKER, WHICH MAY BE PLUGGED AFTER SUCCESSFUL COMMISSIONING OF THE SYSTEM. THIS WILL HELP TO ANALYSE THE SYSTEM WHILE COMMISSIONING. DECEMBER, 2013 PAGE 1 OF 4 HD 255

RATIO CONTROLLER MODEL RCW-B & RCW-S TECHNICAL DATA MODEL SIZE MAX. SERVICE PRESSURE FACTORY HYDRO TEST PRESSURE MOUNTING APPROVAL FINISH ORDERING INFORMATION DESCRIPTION RCW-B Bronze RCW-S Stainless Steel 65, 80,100 &150 NB 14 Bar (200 PSI) 25 Kg./Sq.cm. (350 PSI) Between the flanges ANSI B16.5-150# UL Listed with AFFF3% and with HD Bladder tank, with 12 bar maximum pressure Red RAL 3000 or Natural Finish Specify a) Model & Size b) Minimum and Maximum Pressure and flow rate c) Induction Percentage d) Type of Foam Concentrate used Ratio Controller is used for proportioning the foam concentrate into the water supply with a wide range of flow and pressure. The Ratio Controller is also used with Bladder Proportioning System, Inline Balance Proportioning System and Skid mounted pump balance proportioning system. SPECIFICATION The Ratio Controller works on venturi principle. As the water flow passes through nozzle at the inlet of ratio controller, a low-pressure area is created between inlet nozzle and the down stream section called diffuser. This low-pressure area causes the foam concentrate to flow through a metering orifice at the concentrate inlet and into the low-pressure area. As the system demand varies, the water jet through Ratio Controller increases or decreases, which in turn varies the pressure at the low-pressure area of the Ratio Controller. This affects the corresponding pressure across the foam concentrate-metering orifice. The system requires same pressure of water and concentrate in order to balance the proportioning system. INSTALLATION Ratio Controller Model RCW is wafer style to be mounted in SCH40 pipe between two flanges. NOTE U L LISTED EX15835 1) A minimum of five pipe diameter of straight unobstructed pipe is required at upstream and down stream of each ratio controller. 2) Ratio Controller shall be installed between two ANSI 150# flanges with raised face or flat face. The gasket-stud, flanges shall be provided by the installer. 3) Provision shall be made in piping for removal of Ratio Controller. 4) The pipes on upstream & downstream side of the Ratio Controller must be adequately supported and no strain shall be imposed on Ratio Controller. 5) The Ratio Controller flow range given is with AFFF 3% foam concentrate. Consult HD Engineering Department for other foam concentrate types. 6) Ratio controller is UL Listed with HD Bladder Tank, refer UL Listing data for more information. 7) Ratio Controller is UL Listed for 2.1 to 12 bar pressure.
