It had to trigger instant brand recognition and provide a unique experience. The client wanted to reinvent the eyewear store with the budget of a pop-up shop and within a 5-week time frame; Campaign s design reflects this challenge. The team created a stark contrast to the conventional, clinical white box of traditional opticians by using a restricted palette of monochromatic colours and modest materials. long the blue grey painted walls are 87 white powder-coated steel sculptural heads, affectionately referred to as winkies. Phillip Lim describes its fashion creations as everyday classics accented with a touch of madness. The brand s flagship store in Seoul s premier fashion district, designed by Leong Leong, mirrors that description: a large textured white box, which some might see as a little crazy, with its interior decorated in classic materials such as wood, marble and gold panelling. The brief called for a design that could be incorporated into a global roll-out campaign. ware of the inevitable requirement of brand recognition, the team thought the typology of a flagship store as being characterised by the simultaneous need for sameness and difference. legible consistency was required in order to unify the existing stores in New York, Los ngeles and Tokyo and so diagrammatic manoeuvres from each shop were re-interpreted for the Seoul store. The building is wrapped in a blanket of white convex cells, with the different 60 x 60 cm concrete panel types progressively flattening as they climb the facade. On the interior walls, conical acoustic foam fixtures create a textured lining and a white backdrop, interspersed with touches of gold, for the product displays. continuous curving wall is cropped into a smaller frame, creating four central enclaves, stacked to fit within the two levels of retail space.
