A.S. Création press release Gummersbach, August 2017 Stylish and exquisite: The wallpaper collection by colourcourage With Artist Edition N 1, a well-known artist Lars Contzen created an exceptionally beautiful wallpaper collection. Eight designs unmistakeably reflect Contzen s confident way with colour, shapes and composition. This has led to virtually unique wall designs, the wallpaper of the highest artistic merit to provide character for your interiors. Many of the colourcourage motifs are borrowed directly from nature - sometimes naturalistic, sometimes stylised, they re-invent your space, creating ambience and setting new accents. "In the future, wallpaper will be seen as a part of holistic interior design, and it will gain value only through a continued dialogue with other design aspects. Combining monochrome surfaces, horizontal or vertical sections, subtle structures and just the right mix of graphics, colours and structure are very important, "explains the artist. Four out of the eight wallpaper patterns are based on the Contzen s drawings. The "Dried Flowers" pattern is the result of a nature study as well as the "Elegance in Greenhouse". Both show the artist s great skill yet still blend in naturally with a number of interior styles. In addition to natural motifs such as delicate leaves, flowers and shells, the collection also includes geometric motifs such as stripes, meander and diamonds. The simple elegance of these forms is accentuated by Contzen through a sensitive colour interplay. Occasionally, the motif steps back gently, bringing the interior to the fore, or, alternatively, pushes forward, turning your wall into a bold work of art. The rather austere, purist and elegant "Cornish Castle motif with its classic diamond pattern is reminiscent of an aristocratic setting and brings together vintage treasures, leather furniture or antiques in a harmonious mix. The classic, subtle stripe pattern of "Pajama Préféré" can be combined with almost any interior 1
style: Youthful and light or subtle and straightforward. "The patterns are by no means gratuitously spectacular, trendy or bold," Contzen describes his designs. All designs of the colourcourage wallpaper collection are notable by their particular freshness and clarity. They are unobtrusive and yet truly present. Elegant but not pushy. Unique and delicate in design and structure. They represent a life force and are a distillation of the experiences gained in countless journeys across Europe, that Contzen undertook over the years. This makes the wallpaper collection colourcourage ARTIST EDITION N 1 exceedingly contemporary and modern. In addition to the eight designs, the collection includes a series of monochrome wallpapers consistent with the motifs. "When designing an interior, a right balance between plain and patterned surfaces is required. A line of moulding as a formal separation of the two surfaces plays an important role here. Due to the fact that moulding is three-dimensional, the observer automatically sees it as part of the predefined architecture of the room. The break between the patterned wallpaper and the monochrome surface is therefore completely "logical" at this point. In the absence of moulding, the change between the pattern and the monochrome could only occur in the corners. This is hugely creatively limiting and lacks a strong artistic impact, the artist explains. Wallpaper, colours as well as ornamental mouldings offered by colourcourage, open up a wide range of creative perspectives, allow for the playful handling of a wide range of interior situations and represent both aspiration and style. The Brands. colourcourage is the colour system that focuses on the person. Premium wall colours, exquisite wallpapers as well as selected decorative mouldings and rosettes are the result of a radical sensory exploration. Our passion lies in recreating personal perceptions in colours, shapes and patterns. Capturing emotional moments with a special magic for your home is a true art, perfected by the artist Lars Contzen. All his pieces are filled with the knowledge of colour and colour psychology as well as its cultural impact, nature studies and analysis of the light patterns. This unique blend is where colourcourage originates. Alongside with the mainstream company J.W. Ostendorf, A.S. Création and NMC present the artist Lars Contzen with his select product line of the highest quality. 2
Dried Flowers The dried flowers pattern is based on a hand drawing by the artist Lars Contzen. The subject is the subtle depiction of dried flowers, composed of harmoniously flowing fine lines. The drawing is very artistic and conveys quiet elegance. The overall composition is stylish and classic and forms a wonderful backdrop for the furnishings made with natural materials. Mélodie à l Accordeon Mélodie à l Accordeon resembles a folded sheet of paper on the wall. If you look at it this way, the surface appears attractive and lively. The partial tinting of the colours creates the impression of light and shadow sides in the pattern. The design is simultaneously purist and rhythmic, and divides the wall in the same way as the bar in a piece of music. It is as if you hear the sound of the French accordion when you look at it. Vilde Beach The wall surface initially looks like a wonderful mosaic of sea shells, reminiscent of the Vilde beach patterns. However, the forms are so powerfully stylised that one can also see pebbles or leaf outlines in it. Spare line strokes build up towards a general close-to-nature context. It achieves a very harmonising effect and challenges the viewer to come up with their own interpretation. Ageless Meander The basis for the Ageless Meander graphic is timeless. It is inspired by classical ornamentation with recurring rhythmic motifs and takes us back to the semantics of the "Art Déco" movement of the 1920s at its origins in France. Due to its minimalist composition, the design can be easily combined both with modern and classical furnishing elements. The size of the pattern creates a soothing effect in the interior. Elegance in Greenhouse Elegance in Greenhouse bears the unmistakable hallmark of the artist Lars Contzen s unique style. During the design process, he began by laying out outlined curves in pencil as the 3
basis for the overall composition. Step by step, the drawing picked out subtle details, until the end result is a thoroughly aesthetic elegance of floral forms. Only a creation this immaculate may serve as a template for wallpaper prints. The patter has been reproduced both with and without leaf forms, in order to blend in particularly subtly in the required interior design. Cornish Castle The Cornish Castle wallpaper is reminiscent of a British castle or a seat of power. Its classic diamond pattern serves as a backdrop to a lifestyle with antique furniture or exceptional vintage props. In combination with the matching monochrome wallpaper, it is possible to divide the walls horizontally. This creates a historical look with its particular charm, making every room appear very lovingly arranged. Fleur Côtiere The opulent composition of Fleur Côtiere is inspired by coastal flowers, making it a central and magical point in the interior design. The flower shapes and leaf arrangements were initially designed by the artist Lars Contzen freehand on paper before being reworked as a wallpaper template. All plant forms are so full and sumptuous that the design emanates pure energy, strongly felt by the observer. Pyjama Préféré As simple as it is ingenious is the design of the Pajama Préféré pattern, resembling the stripes of your favourite pyjamas. The striping stands for pure relaxation and brings peace into every room with its harmonious gradations and vertical lines. This wallpaper can be combined with almost any interior style. With the use of matching monochrome wallpapers, you can make wonderful vertical or horizontal partitions in the room. In this way, different areas of the room could be separated by the use of different accents. 4
