Fundamentals: Ultrasonic cleaning is one of the most modern cleaning methods. It achieves maximum cleanliness of the treated parts, even in places which are difficult to access, while being extremely gentle on the material to be cleaned. Optimum ultrasonic cleaning depends essentially on four factors: cleaning device cleaning chemicals temperature time Applications: suitable for removing grease, oils, fluxes, grinding and polishing abrasives, paint residue, oxide layers, scales etc. can be used for ferrous and non-ferrous materials, plastics, glass etc. (mechanical, electronic, optical and medical components) Ultrasonic cleaning terms ultrasonic vibrating systems: the high frequency (HF) energy generated from an ultrasound generator is converted from piezoelectrical vibration systems into mechanical energy and is introduced into the bath fluid. This results in millions of microscopic vacuum beads that implode through pressure variations. This produces highly effective liquid jets which remove the dirt particles from the surfaces of the material being cleaned. sweep function: with this function, a homogeneous sonic field distribution through continuous displacement of the sound pressure is achieved. The result is optimum distribution of the cleaning capacity in the cleaning bath. degas and autodegas function: new cleaning liquid is saturated with air. The bath liquid is degassed to optimise the ultrasonic effect. Pulse function: connectible, for electronic increase in performance. About 20% more vacuum bubbles compared to the sweep function (model series X-tra basic, XL and X-tra line). Selection of the suitable cleaning tub The useful dimensions of the cleaning tub, eventually also of the cleaning basket, depend on the dimensions of the parts to be cleaned and their positioning in the cleaning tub! Individual parts can be cleaned and several parts or bulk material can be cleaned simultaneously. A cleaning basket or a handling device with the appropriate device for hooking of the cleaning material in the bath can be used here. nominal dimensions of the tub: 2 Ta T W x D x H (with basket: H-20 mm) B Tool chuck before and after cleaning Ultrasonic vibrating systems 3 4 1 H Ha T 1 H B Ba USR S and ELMASONIC X-tra basic 1 = max. tub volume (V) 2 = overflow edge or filling mark ELMASONIC XL/X-tra line 1 = max. tub volume (V) 3 overflow basin 4 = overflow edge Sweep function Degas and autodegas function 945

Lateral sound 2-/3-lateral sound: The build-up of the 2-side sound is functionally similar to the ground-born sound, only that the vibration systems are arranged horizontally in front and behind. Advantages: Complex components (for instance, cylinder heads, flanges) can be filled with sound from 2 sides at the same time (from 3 sides with 3-lateral fractioning), i.e. the turning of the component from 2 or 3 sides is omitted for cleaning, [ minimises costs and time. Furthermore, the dirt particles cleaned away during 2-lateral fractioning cleaning sink to the floor whereby supersonic sounding of the part takes place more intensively than for ground-borne sound. 2-side sound with optional phase shift: At normal lateral sound, maximum and minimum stationary sound pressure is built up. This results in cleaning of the parts that is not evenly distributed. An optimisation can be achieved by means of horizontal oscillation. This task is performed electronically with the phase control. This means that active cavitation bubbles are directed through the cleaning bath. Application: In parts, which need for cleaning tasks uniform sound distribution, e.g. in mirrored surfaces in the glass or metal area. Other advantage: Cleaning time reduced. 950
