Finding a Solution Model Assisted Living Studio Apartment Aptura collaborated with the architect to balance contemporary architecture with transitional design for aesthetics that appeal to the blended blue- and whitecollar Midwestern sensibilities of South Bend s market. The first impression of the lobby features the accessibility of transitional, cleanlined design. Statement carpeting anchors the space, while pops of warm teak wood and neutral finishes allow furnishings, unique art pieces and upholstery to be the focal points of the space. Being a large-scale, two-story lobby, Aptura took advantage of ample natural light and infused a residential scale with floor lamps and a cozy fireplace at the center of a conversational furniture grouping. Destinations just off the lobby include a grab-and-go café and an upscale pub with adjoining game room seating area. The café is part of the central hub of the community, giving opportunities for point-of-sale purchases and complimentary items that are convenient for residents, visitors and staff. The pub offers the feel of a tailored upscale club room. Rich patterned carpeting acts as a standout design element, while layers of bold accent furniture and metallic fixtures create a luxurious feel. Another pub upstairs offers a more laid-back vibe complete with TVs and décor specific to the nearby University of Notre Dame. A private dining area off the main dining space downstairs perpetuates the eclectic, transitional design. Host and hostess chairs elevate the space and bolster the residential feel for a unique dining and gathering space that feels special but not stuffy. Custom shelving provides a rich focal point for the space and helps define a purposeful destination. Here, durable commercial-grade cabinetry was made warm and residential with a strategic use of materials. Intimate table settings further reinforce the at-home feel. The salon immediately conveys a desirable destination where residents can treat themselves. Two-sided merchandising shelving at the entrance creates a unique and functional design element. Metallic sheers, applied to the inside of the storefront glass, soften the commercial appearance and add a layer of pampering luxury.
