DC Disconnect with remote contro and arc faut detection PVRE-...-1 Description The powerfu DC Disconnect PVRE-...-1 on a hybrid basis aows disconnection of the DC side of a photovotaic system in proximity of the modues (or directy beow the cabe outet) by means of the integra remote contro modue. Disconnection of the DC ines within the buiding ensures a high degree of safety for individuas in hazardous situations such as fire or food and aso during maintenance works. The additionay integrated arc faut detection feature, tested to the standard UL 1699B, detects hazardous DC arc fauts in the PV system and trips the DC Disconnect immediatey by means of the remote contro. Disconnection of the circuit heps to extinguish seria arc fauts aready before any safety-critica situations can arise. DC arc fauts can be caused by defective components such as connectors, cabes, PV modues and junction boxes due to ageing, anima bite, heavy snowfa or mounting and instaation errors. The integra arc faut detector now aows reaisation of fire prevention in photovotaic systems. Remote disconnection and reconnection provide ease of reset and thus high system avaiabiity even in arge roof-mounted soar instaations. The E-T-A technoogy of arc faut detection significanty enhances the safety of photovotaic systems. DC Disconnect with remote contro and arc faut detection PVRE-...-1 Function arc faut detection The arc faut detector approved to UL 1699B detects seria and parae DC arc fauts by means of a detection agorithm taior-made for photovotaic appications. The circuit disconnection by means of the Disconnect heps to extinguish seria arcs. Because of the random nature of arc fauts with different types of arcs (seria, parae, etc ) we tested the PVRE- -1 with various rectifiers of major manufacturers in various appication situations to achieve the highest possibe arc faut detection rate (-> pease contact E-T-A for the atest information on compatibiity with rectifiers). Using the E-T-A technoogy for arc faut detection significanty increases the safety and reiabiity of PV systems. Operating contros on the arc faut detector: Push button "Test" After pushing the Test button the PVRE- -1 carries out a sef test. During the sef test the LEDs ON and ARC ight simutaneousy. When the sef test is competed successfuy, the PVRE- -1 opens the oad contacts( position 0 ) and ony the LED ARC remains it. Duration sef test: 0.1 to 4 seconds. Push button Reset By hoding the Reset button for at east 0. seconds the PVRE- -1 is reset to norma duty after an arc detection or a positive sef test. During this process the LEDs ON and ARC go out. After the subsequent start-up phase the oad contacts are switched on again and the dispay ON ights green. Duration of the run-up phase approx. 4 seconds Note: Humidity in the instaation area (e.g. caused by condensation) must be avoided. When instaed in encosures with a high protection cass, vent hoes or pressurisation eements have to be used to avoid condensation. In the appication it has to be ensured that each PVRE- -1 is suppied with min. 1 A aintenance: An eectrica functiona test to ensure system avaiabiity shoud be carried out reguary, e.g. annuay. Side switch with ock-out feature By actuating the side switch downwards, the PVRE-...-1 is switched into the OFF position, the remote contro function is deactivated and ocked mechanicay. The PVRE- -1 can be protected against inadvertent operation in the OFF condition by means of a padock (shacke diameter 3 4.3 mm). Lock-out feature Indicator LEDs on the arc faut detector: LED ON ights green: The PVRE- -1 is running on norma duty. Load contacts are cosed ( Switching position I ). LED ARC ights red: Either an arc has been detected or a successfu sef test has been carried out. The oad contacts of the PVRE- -1 are opened ( Switching position O ). LEDs ON and ARC ight simutaneousy: The device carries out an interna sef test. Appying suppy votage or pressing the reset button triggers the sef test. Working principe The PVRE- -1 is generay switched on by means of the integra remote contro. Actuation is by means of an externa 3-position switch (-0-). In case of an interruption of the suppy votage the PVRE- -1 wi remain in its current switching position. Detection of an arc: Break operation in the position 0 is effected immediatey by means of the remote contro unit and the LED ARC ights red. Before reset the root cause of the faiure shoud be identified and remedied in the system. After detection of an arc, resetting the arc faut detection function requires the foowing: - push the reset button for at east 0. sec.
