Thanks again, from all of us at BISSELL. Mark J. Bissell Chairman & CEO Symbol Definitions WARNING TIP Guide WEEE An action or attention is needed to this area in order to reduce the Risk of Electric Shock, Fire, or Injury Note or hint which is not essential but may improve usability Read user guide for complete safety and user instructions DO NOT THROW THE APPLIANCE AWAY WITH THE NORMAL HOUSHOLD WASTE AT THE END OF ITS LIFE, BUT HAND IT IN AT AN OFFICIAL COLLECTION POINT FOR RECYCLING. BY DOING THIS YOU WILL HELP TO PRESERVE THE ENVIRONMENT.» Before cleaning under low furniture, check area first for objects that might harm the unit or block the hose.» Hair, string and small objects can block the hose and tools. Check them occasionally for obstructions.» Use the air flow regulator to reduce air flow as needed when using the tools.» For maximum cleaning performance, check the filters often and clean or replace if necessary. 3

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE USE This model is for household use only. THIS APPLIANCE HAS A POLARIZED PLUG. To reduce the risk of electric shock, this appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). This plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install a proper outlet. Do not change the plug in any way. 4

Variable Suction The Hard Floor Expert is equipped with variable suction to easily go from cleaning carpets and hard floors to delicate surfaces like drapes and upholstery. To increase suction power, slide the dial (on the base of the canister) towards the + sign. To dial down the suction, slide the dial towards the - sign. Before using your vacuum, make sure that the dirt cup and all filters are in place. Do not operate your vacuum without the dirt cup and filters. Be careful to avoid injury as cord retracts very quickly. b. Hard Floor Tool The hard floor tool is equipped to clean hard floor surfaces such as wood, tile, and laminate. This tool is ideal for removing fine dirt and debris on hard flooring. Note: The roller brush will only rotate on hard floor surfaces. It can be used to clean carpet, but the brush will not rotate. c. Carpet Tool Multi-surface brush switch has retractable brushes to clean both carpet and hardwood floor surfaces. Vacuum Carpeted Areas Set the multi-surface brush switch to the carpet position (brushes should retract). Vacuum Hard Surfaces Set the multi-surface brush switch to the hard floor position (brushes should be visible). d. Storage There are two storage options for your Hard Floor Expert: 1. Locate the groove behind the machine and connect the floor tool to the base Or 2. Locate the groove on the backside of the canister and connect the telescopic wand. D Operations 1. Locate the power cord on the back of the unit and plug in. Note: The power cord can be pulled out until the yellow mark is visible. Do not pull out past the red mark on the cord. 2. Turn on the vacuum by pressing the power button on the base of the canister. 3. When the dust cup reaches the MAX line, turn off the machine and remove the dust cup from the base of the machine, by opening the lid and pulling up 4. Unplug the vacuum from the electrical outlet. Plastic film can be dangerous. To avoid danger of suffocation, keep away from babies and children. 5

Thermal motor protection An internal thermal protector has been designed into your cleaner to protect it from overheating. When the thermal protector activates, the main vacuum motor will stop operating. If this happens, proceed as follows: 1. Turn the cleaner OFF and unplug from electrical outlet. 2. Check the cleaner for the source of over heating problem (ie. Full dirt cup, dirty filters or clog). 3. Fix the problem by following the steps in the Operations or Maintenance and Care section. 4. When the motor cools for approximately 30 minutes, the thermal protector will reset and cleaning may continue. If the cleaner will not turn on or the thermal protector continues to activate, your cleaner may need servicing. Call BISSELL Consumer Care or visit the website. To reduce the risk of electric shock, turn power switch off and disconnect plug from electrical socket before performing maintenance or care. Do not operate cleaner with damp or wet filters or without all filters in place. This product is intended for household use only and not for commercial or industrial use. Vacuuming of dust from products like plaster, concrete or ashes will damage the motor and void the warranty. Remove dirt bin from the base of the canister. 2. Locate the filter on the back of the dirt bin and pull the latches to separate the filter from the bin. 3.
