What Do We Do? - Recycling Collections in all academic and administrative buildings - Oversee hauling contracts to remove materials from campus - Develop and maintain relationships with recycling facilities so that materials have a place to go - Provide education throughout campus - Special Events: Move-In, Move-Out, Tree Plantings, Campus Cleanups, Earth Day - Composting education and assistance - Zero Waste Football/Events

Why Bother???

Why Bother??? Legalities - NC General Statutes: - State-Owned buildings open to the public are required to provide recycling. - Ban some materials from the landfill - UNC Policy of Sustainability - University Policy 713 - University Sustainability Plan zero waste by 2040

Why Bother??? Recycling Math 101: If there are 30,000 people on campus, and everyone throws one aluminum can in the trash each day, how many extra trash cans would this fill? Answer: 250 additional 32-gallon trash cans

Why Bother??? Recycling Factoid: On average, it costs the University $6 a ton to recycle, and $36 a ton to landfill materials.

Bottles, Cans, Paper, and Cardboard Recycling

General Office Recycling If you are in an Academic or Administrative Building, you should have these bins! Blue Recycling Bin Black Mini Bin for Trash 70607

General Office Recycling 2 blends of paper; Office and News Blend Office Blend: will be pretty much any paper that goes through the copier, as well as envelopes with out windows, multipart forms, and file folders. News Blend: pretty much everything else, magazines, newspaper, envelopes with windows, any slick paper, Post-its, copier wrappers, and chipboard. Got cardboard? Flatten the box and stick between or behind your paper bins. Our staff will collect when they pick up your paper. 70607

Recycling PSA Do you need to clean out your office files? Has someone left and you have to clean out their office? Is it just so much stuff you are at a loss as to what to do with everything? Recycling can help. Give us a call on campus at 70607, and we ll get you a toter to fill up with as much paper as you can stuff in it.

Where Does it Go Now? Cardboard and our mixed paper (news blend) is hauled to Caraustar, a paper recycling company. Because it is separate, and Caraustar doesn t have to sort things out, we get some money back for this.

Where Does it Go Now? Office paper is picked up by another paper recycling company: Maslo, Inc. Again, because it is all office paper, and they don t have to sort, we get some money back.

Where Does it Go Now? Cans, bottles, and containers are hauled to ReCommunity the same place that curbside collections from your homes are taken. Because ReCommunity has to sort materials out even more, we pay them but we pay them LESS than it would cost us to landfill this.

Starts with this ReCommunity

Run everything through their hitech, magical machinery

ReCommunity And they end up with this

Any Questions EVER about Recycling Call 70607.
